  2.
  3. CALFoolio 1:46 notes
  4.
  5. Segment 1:
  6. Stands still to shoot the targets, which is wild lol
  7.
  8. NO dash jumping at all (!!! which is alarming because Dash Jumping was discovered Feb 27, 2003)
  9.
  10. Doesn’t skip the first elevator cutscene (actually slower but people used to do this)
  11.
  12. L jumping which is good
  13.
  14. Rolls through biohazard
  15.
  16. Kills turret in CFLTDG
  17.
  18. Elects not to save before Parasite Queen, which would generally be the norm for these runs
  19.
  20. Scans PQ (!!!!!)
  21.
  22. Inbounds frigate, of course
  23.
  24. Actually pretty good movement for 2003 honestly. Almost 6:50 elevator scan
  25.
  26. Walking without holding L (!?)
  27.
  28. Lots of L jumping which is good but no strafing
  29.
  30. 5 minute Ridley cutscene which is really good for early 2003
  31.
  32. Fast grapple!
  33.
  34. Rolls through electricity which is surprising
  35.
  36. No elevator dash of course, no strafing in squiggly room
  37.
  38. 4:13 escape time
  39.
  40. Segment 2:
  41.
  42. 5 minute Tallon time (actually good for 2003)
  43.
  44. No SJF
  45.
  46. Strafes into elevator but nowhere else (why)
  47.
  48. Has to go to Hive Mecha for missiles which is rough
  49.
  50. Slow all around compared to current day strats
  51.
  52. Holy crap fights hive mecha lol
  53.
  54. Energy tank from HM
  55.
  56. Sneaks behind the pillar for speed hah
  57.
  58. Actually fights the beetle!
  59.
  60. Long way around main plaza because he has to, also falls once
  61.
  62. Getting charge beam, gets the fast missile
  63.
  64. Actually decent scans
  65.
  66. Doesn’t roll through watery hall access (or much in general it seems)
  67.
  68. Shoots the blast caps in Gathering Hall
  69.
  70. Edgy jump to save a morph+unmorph
  71.
  72. Can’t Space Jump onto ID/doesnt know you can ghetto onto it
  73.
  74. Actually fast ID luck though lol
  75.
  76. Burn dome missiles
  77.
  78. Furnace puzzle because you have to at this point and for the foreseeable future
  79.
  80. Doesn’t save before Flaahgra/not sure what happened in Arboretum
  81.
  82. No ‘genius’ strat for flaahgra, was figured out in 2004 if I recall correctly
  83.
  84. Takes damage to the last tentacle accidentally
  85.
  86. Misses jump to door and jump across water lol
  87.
  88. No early wild!
  89.
  90. Goes for an energy tank/space jump before Magmoor instead of going directly into Magmoor for Nature
  91.
  92. Segment 3:
  93.
  94. Oh boy early Space Jump. This trick is hard. He does it in 12 tries and gets a missile after. Not terrible
  95.
  96. Segment 4:
  97.
  98. Another missile in transport tunnel
  99.
  100. Morph ball through the safe area, then walks into lava
  101.
  102. Kills all the turrets in Monitor Station which is really slow
  103.
  104. Interesting strat to skip the platform and save time
  105.
  106. Doesn’t save in-game time using the cutscene trick here
  107.
  108. Boost ball first, as is the standard in any%
  109.
  110. Just jumps to the bottom of Phendrana canyon lol, but an interesting strat to get onto the bridge that i’ve never seen before
  111.
  112. Falls down once in Chozo Ice Temple
  113.
  114. Slightly slow morph puzzle (correct strat though)
  115.
  116. Actually good baby sheegoths, sorta slow adult though
  117.
  118. No dashes so we jump into lava, on the way to Ice Beam (this was the FAST route at the time)
  119.
  120. L jumps in extremely tight spots, slow
  121.
  122. Still kills blast caps
  123.
  124. Gathering Hall missile
  125.
  126. Clipping trick on the spider ball track (discovered after the TBJ method)
  127.
  128. Walks to the edge of Crossway halfpipe to boost instead of just rolling
  129.
  130. E A R L Y I C E
  131.
  132. Uses wave path instead of TBJ to hole (slow)
  133.
  134. Boosts in Reflecting pool
  135.
  136. Segment 5:
  137.
  138. Fast missile in overgrown cavern
  139.
  140. Slow Frigate Crash Site because no dashing
  141.
  142. Doesn’t use morph ball to fall faster in Root Cave
  143.
  144. Let’s go to Magmoor!
  145.
  146. Skipping spider in Twin Fires Tunnel! Double bomb jump method but still. Diverges from current any% route again
  147.
  148. Early plasma beam, one of the first real sequence breaks in the game
  149.
  150. Early plasma ghetto first try (!)
  151.
  152. Close to death here
  153.
  154. Segment 6:
  155.
  156. Spider was still obtained in any%, and will be for quite some time (till about 2014)
  157.
  158. Uses bombs on thardus which is fast, doesn’t go for snipes (which is slow)
  159.
  160. Takes tons of damage for whatever reason even though the bombs have a huge radius (also for whatever reason)
  161.
  162. Goes forward through labs for Elder (literally only because they hadn’t figured out Edward, as far as I know)
  163.
  164. Scans the elevator in Hydra (????)
  165.
  166. Can’t skip any of the puzzle in Observatory which is reaaaaaaally slow
  167.
  168. Does them appreciably well though
  169.
  170. NEEDS supers for Wild (and also later on Metroid Prime the boss)
  171.
  172. Pirate battle skip was NOT discovered at this point, so we watch this fight (although it’s mercifully fast with plasma)
  173.
  174. Elder the normal way
  175.
  176. Bad movement during this all
  177.
  178. There was a lot of discussion how the Metroid would not escape the tube; this is because you need to make the Metroid escape the tube.
  179.
  180. Gets thermal visor because it’s fast (!! Good routing even back then)
  181.
  182. Ignores ‘backward through the labs’ which is merciful
  183.
  184. Absurdly careful in Frost Cave
  185.
  186. DEVILBIT’s Grapple skip in Phendrana’s Edge (Got to get a power bomb first though)
  187.
  188. Slow Frozen Pike because jumping was bad in 2003
  189.
  190. Segment 7:
  191.
  192. amusingly careful Phazon Processing Center
  193.
  194. No Elite Skip because it wasn’t discovered until quite a bit later
  195.
  196. Supers on elite though which is… something else
  197.
  198. Bad strategy for loading Central Dynamo Access
  199.
  200. Super on Invisible drone LOL
  201.
  202. Slow maze
  203.
  204. Really slow CD because climbs weren’t known I suppose?
  205.
  206. Turns off the gas with boost? Strange
  207.
  208. Got confused in Elite Control
  209.
  210. Doesn’t use the fast strat that Kip specially mentioned a couple months before this was submitted in Ore Processing Center, not sure why (gets grapple beam because Fungal Hall A was considered hard at the time)
  211.
  212. Decent Waste Disposal movement
  213.
  214. Doesn’t boost through elevator room after phazon
  215.
  216. No platform skip in Great Tree Hall
  217.
  218. Goes to get World before X Ray, has some trouble navigating Hall of the Elders
  219.
  220. No fast missile in Life Grove Tunnel
  221.
  222. Ghost fight skip (FIRST TRY!) Probably one of the hardest things actually done in this world record up until this point except for early Space Jump
  223.
  224. Big Pirate strafing hadn’t been discovered at this point I suppose
  225.
  226. Fights all the enemies in Elite Research
  227.
  228. Puzzle is already solved in Ore Processing Center which is actually fast, I suppose
  229.
  230. Gets missile in Elite Control Access
  231.
  232. Under the floor in Quarantine Access
  233.
  234. Uses ice on metroids instead of plasma. Don’t believe Metroid Quarantine A was solved quite yet
  235.
  236. Missile in Fungal Hall Acess
  237.
  238. Ignores metroids in Fungal Hall B which is fast but messes it up lol
  239.
  240. Consolation missile expansion
  241.
  242. Uses spider in Metroid Quarantine B slowly even though it was solved for everything at this point
  243.
  244. Almost dies
  245.
  246. Segment 9:
  247.
  248. Literally no Omega Pirate strats were developed at this point, so this fight is a bit of agony. Doesn’t even seem like they understand how his spawning works but gets a 1 cycle because Supers
  249.
  250. Heads back for newborn, which was the route until 2017 (!) apparently amasawa had gotten it without Phazon suit and with 14 energy tanks by January of 2003 which surprised me
  251.
  252. You can tell ghetto jumps weren’t very well understood at this point
  253.
  254. Tries to lure all the metroids in for a hug but doesn’t have any powerbombs, uses plasma on them now
  255.
  256. Banks phazon jump strat
  257.
  258. Phazon Processing Center is slow because he elects to kill literally everything
  259.
  260. Shoots one of the pirates off the platform intentionally to make the fight quicker, though
  261.
  262. Segment 10:
  263.
  264. Cross Thardus to get to Sun (Faster to get it now since we have to track through Magmoor anyway) but I’m not sure it’s faster than going through Magmoor and getting sun at the end
  265.
  266. Powerbomb expansion
  267.
  268. Gets strength at the end (uses boost ball spinner too)
  269.
  270. Gets ice spreader which you don’t see since route changes in about 2011 I believe
  271.
  272. Finally getting nature (not sure why not the first time around but hey)
  273.
  274. No early wild, so we have to do this climb instead, doesn’t kill wasps and waste time but does wait for eyons for whatever reason
  275.
  276. Good ghost strats actually ( :D )
  277.
  278. Wild boosting is fun but slow usually
  279.
  280. doesn’t understand morphing into walls on the piston will cause it to drop down again
  281.
  282. Lifegiver extremely late compared to today’s route, gravity has been skipped
  283.
  284. Still doesn’t hold L while walking which is sad
  285.
  286. Segment 11:
  287.
  288. Supers on Ridley because why not
  289.
  290. Boosting Ridley hadn’t been discovered yet? So we get an extremely long fight
  291.
  292. Doesn’t know how to snipe ridley’s mouth to skip some timeloss
  293.
  294. Segment 12:
  295.
  296. Extremely slow Impact crater and missile refill station
  297.
  298. Supers on prime in any%! Neat
  299.
  300. Ice Spreader on prime in any%! Even more neat
  301.
  302. Doesn’t seem to know about tractor beam cancel
  303.
  304. Also does not know about the Exo snipes that were discovered in 2013/2014ish
  305.
  306. Actually collected thermal for the essence fight which I thought was interesting
  307.
  308. Doesn’t know to not move at the start of the fight, doesn’t know about the pool hopping (Which could have saved him one whole pool)
  309.
  310. End game. Timer is 1:46. First run of Metroid Prime with proof.
