Lazy court-process clerk and stoner Dale Denton has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver: to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop and the city&#39;s most dangerous drug lord, he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him--and it is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they&#39;re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia: incredibly, the bad guys really are hot on their trail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both. A process server and his marijuana dealer wind up on the run from hitmen and a corrupt police officer after he witnesses his dealer&#39;s boss murder a competitor while trying to serve papers on him.
Seth Rogen is a great actor/comedian in my opinion.Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin and Superbad were excellent movies in my opinion, and those are just a few of the many other films he has played a role in.The film also stars James Franco of &quot;Spiderman&quot; fame.It&#39;s been a while since I have seen this movie but what happens is a stoner witnesses a murder and gets his drug dealer involved.So they hide in the woods while the man sends two hit men to go kill them.Afterwords they leave the woods, try to get help from their friend, smoke some weed and then after the dealer gets kidnapped, the stoner goes and tries to save him.Pineapple Express was not as good as say Superbad or 40 Year Old Virgin in my opinion, but it was an entertaining stoner movie with a good mix of action and comedy.Seth Rogen fans, stoner film fans or fans of buddy comedies should check this movie out.
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Not funny at all. You have to be very very drunk or under dump making chemicals to find this movie entertaining or even funny. Just don&#39;t waste your lifetime on this bullshit. Go out with your friends and smoke some pot, or not, just don&#39;t watch this crap. If you don&#39;t have any friends go find some or watch Chinese soaps or commercials, just everything is better than this. Movies like Pineapple Express are just created to make stupid people even more stupid. It is ridiculous how people who are NOT stoned trying to play stoned. But as long as there are stupid teenager kids spending their money for films like that, some greedy assholes will produce something like that to entertain them with their on stupidity.
It's with that action aspect that Pineapple Express differs from Apatow's previous production output, and though, the words "taut" and "pulse-pounding" would never apply, the giddily over-the-top fight sequences, choreographed by veteran stunt coordinator Gary Hymes, handily compensate for the lag time.
Pineapple Express is based on a screenplay by Seth Rogen (who also stars in the film), Evan Goldberg, and Judd Apatow (who also produced the film). According to Apatow, the source of inspiration for Pineapple Express was <a href="/name/nm0000093/">Brad Pitt</a>&#39;s character [a stoner named Floyd] in <a href="/title/tt0108399/">True Romance (1993)</a> (1993). &quot;Paper Planes&quot; by M.I.A Most viewers simply chalk it up to &quot;suspension of disbelief&quot;. Some critics have likened Red&#39;s pseudo-immortality to Wile E. Coyote&#39;s, i.e. the ridiculous amount of punishment he is able to take is part of the joke. Others have seen it as a reference to <a href="/title/tt0478311/">Knocked Up (2007)</a> (2007) in which the character Ben Stone (<a href="/name/nm0736622/">Seth Rogen</a>), praises the cure-all purposes of marijuana. &quot;It is, like, the best medicine. &#39;Cause it fixes everything. Jonah broke his elbow once. We just... got high and... it still clicks but, I mean, he&#39;s ok.&quot; One of the complaints of the action sequences in this film is that they are very start-and-stop. As stated by Seth Rogen on the DVD commentary for the film, &quot;the action is start-and-stop because we just really didn&#39;t have the money.&quot; This is an R-rated comedy, so the censored parts are not all that spectacular. To be frank, there is not one change that seems to be worth censoring, only new dialogues and story parts have been added.
