- Magic is What Is Not being made. Antimagic is What Is asserting its being.
- Magic, or Flux, is a force that, though naturally occurring, runs counter to nature.
- Antimagic, or Essence, is a force that allows nature to resist and counter the force of Flux.
- Rules of Magic:
- Magic cannot be used to make things remain or return to how they “should be” - it cannot extend a natural lifespan, it cannot return the dead to natural life, and it cannot be used to remove other magic
- Magic cannot be generated, only harnessed. It courses naturally through the world, and many species can harness it either consciously or unconsciously. It can also be trapped in certain gems.
- Anything intrinsically magical cannot continue existing if cut off from a source of Flux
- Magic is used in discrete spells which are composed on the fly, though they may have lasting effects
- Rules of Antimagic:
- Antimagic cannot be broken, only bent, turned onto a different course, or removed somehow – A sword of cold steel will never shatter, break, or chip, but the metal can be reforged
- Antimagic gathers naturally in certain minerals, and with difficulty pure Essence can be distilled from these minerals. It is more common, though, to forge them into cold steel, as this offers a more permanent and easy to use tool.
- Antimagic is also generated pure in the minds of creatures with particularly strong wills, although association with magic makes it more and more difficult to generate antimagic.
- Pure antimagic is worked into discrete pre-defined techniques that in some way hamper or remove magical effects
