- This guide explains how to use LiveSplit with The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+. (LiveSplit is a program used when doing multi-character speedruns in order to see whether or not you are ahead or behind.)
- 1) Download the latest version of LiveSplit: https://livesplit.org/downloads/
- 2) Extract the zip file to a directory of your choice.
- 3) Run the "LiveSplit.exe" file.
- 4) If you get a popup that says "Windows protected your PC", then click on "More Info", and then click on "Run anyway".
- 5) If you get a popup that says "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?", then click on "Yes".
- 6) Wait up to 30 seconds for LiveSplit to start. (It may appear like nothing is happening.) Once it is started, you will see a black rectangle.
- 7) Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Edit Splits...".
- 8) In the "Game Name:" box, put "The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+".
- 9) In the "Run Category:" box, put the category you are doing. For example, "R+7 S8" (which stands for Racing+ 7 characters season 8).
- 10) Click on the "Activate" button to enable the auto-splitter.
- 11) Click on the "Settings" button (next to the "Deactivate" button).
- 12) Check the box that says "You're using the Racing+ custom challenge for multi-character runs". (Skip this step if you are playing a vanilla category. Playing vanilla categories is not recommended, as they are much more boring and not as skill-based.)
- 13) Click on the "OK" button to close the "Component Settings" window.
- 14) Download the following file, which contains character icons: https://www.speedrun.com/splits/Split_Icons_el5ji.zip
- 15) Extract the zip file to a directory of your choice.
- 16) Double-click on the blank square below "Segment Name" and fill it in with the name of the first character that you plan to run, then press Enter.
- 17) Double-click on the blank square below "Icon" and select the character icon that corresponds to the character.
- 18) Click on the "Insert Below" button on the left side of the screen.
- 19) Repeat this process and fill out splits for all the characters that you need.
- 20) Click the "OK" button to close the "Splits Editor" window.
- 21) Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Save Splits".
- 22) Save the splits to a directory of your choice.
- 23) Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Edit Layout".
- 24) Click on the "Layout Settings" button near the bottom-left.
- 25) Click on the "Splits" tab.
- 26) Set the "Total Splits:" to the amount of characters in your multi-character speedrun.
- 27) Uncheck the "Lock Last Split to Bottom" setting.
- 28) Click on "OK" to close the "Layout Settings" window.
- 29) Click on the "+" button, select "Timer", and then select "Detailed Timer".
- 30) Click on the "Up" button to move the "Detailed Timer" next to the "Timer".
- 31) Click on the "Timer" entry and then click on the "-" button to delete it.
- 32) Click on the "Detailed Timer" entry.
- 33) Click on the "OK" button to close the "Layout Editor" window.
- 34) Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Save Layout".
- 35) Save the layout to a directory of your choice.
- 36) Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Settings".
- 37) Check the "Global Hotkeys" checkbox.
- 38) Since Isaac has an automatic splitter, you should never have to manually control your splits. However, just in case, you might want to set a hotkey for "Reset". I use numpad-multiply, but you can use what you like.
- 39) Click the "OK" button to close the "Settings" window.
- 40) Start a Racing+ custom challenge and LiveSplit should automatically start.
