Dodges lightning

Jodah cursed and readied another spell, but the automaton was too fast for him. It raised both hands over its head, and lightning sparked between its upraised fists. The bolts met at the center, over the automaton’s head, then flashed forward in a jagged bolt toward Jodah.

Jodah abandoned his casting and leapt aside, but the lightning carved a deep gouge into the side of the room. Shards of stone erupted from the blast, and Jodah’s forehead stung as several of the pieces laced across his face.

Lights danced before Jodah’s eyes, and he was sure he missed several seconds. Suddenly he was aware that he was lying against the opposite wall, and the metal creature was advancing on him, its fists raised high, summoning its lightning again.

Jodah tried to rise, but his legs wouldn’t move. A dark stain appeared along one trouser leg, and his limb seemed to be at an odd angle.
