- The sharp and scorching waves of sorrow
- are cropping from the lulling sea
- and in the mirrored skies of tomorrow
- arises a fascinating glee
- Twinkling specks fleck the sight of night
- as a veil of darkness is set
- To put forlorn illusions and dreams to flight
- and the weight of day forget
- In the distance the vehement breakers roll
- the silence is blown away
- And fear at last takes its toll
- Before the break of day
- They’re coming, they’re fuming, they’re approaching
- the billows with woe they burst
- They’re nearing, they’re roaring, they’re reaching
- at once the man is cursed
- The plaintive abyss wolfs him down
- lower and lower he falls
- inside the deepest lungs he drowns
- for nothing and naught he calls
- Neptune’s kingdom he sees no more
- a frozen burial ground
- beneath the distant gritty shore
- the chimeras has bound
- Inside a blink he's led astray
- Deadly stillness seizes him
- Dreary torpor steps in his way
- And his path of life turns grim
- And no sweet wind of fancy blows
- Where benumbing gloom resides
- and no seed of genius one sows
- By which unending dusk abides
- But a faint glimmer of flaring light
- The haggard eye makes out
- A flimsy spark by luck and frail might
- in the trapping abyss lurks about
- And near and near the flaming fairy draws
- as the third orb opens wide
- At once it seems there are some flaws
- For a crowd comes out of hide
