  3. General Biography
  4. __________________________________________________________
  5.
  6. Born to human parents that had suffered their share of adventure and exploration, --(Montgomery Dervish)-- was raised to experience the exact opposite. From the very beginning, [(Mother) Dervish] and [(Father) Dervish] had decided that they would provide their child with a comfortable life, one far away from the dangers that plagued villages, cities, and nations. There would be no monsters to fight. No world-ending demons. No traitorous people. The terror of the unknown and the endless doubt of whether a decision was proper would not be his burden to bear. Showing no natural born inclination towards magic like his mother, and without the sharp tongue of his father, --(Montgomery)-- was poised to live a life of a common man. Never exceptional, but safe.
  7.
  8. And yet, despite their best efforts, the arcane, of trickery in particular, seemed to arrest his attention. Perhaps it arose because of observing the occasional spell (Mother) had cast, thinking it hidden. Perhaps (Father) had won the favor of too many men and women with words far too meaningless to be as impactful as they were. Or it was chance, with a touch of lineage sprinkled in along side. Regardless, with age his aptitude for magic became apparent, and while his parents put up short-lived resistance to his continued studies, they eventually acquiesced, understanding their son's calling through their own experiences.
  9.
  10. Now a studied Wizard of his own right, --(Montgomery)-- has set out to make a name for himself. With adventure permeating his family history, and equipped with a rudimentary knowledge of magic, he knows true comfort will never quite be something he carries in his heart. Instead, the unknown awaits with a fearsome smile.
  11.
  12. He can only smile back.

  24. Foreword: Feel free to manipulate ambiguous things down here at your discretion. I don't mind if you want to change some aspects of his parents, his education, or whatever. Just let me know.

  29. Stuff about Montgomery
  30. __________________________________________________________
  31.
  32. 1. His real name is in fact Montgomery Dervish, an Illusion-oriented Wizard. However, this name is not given out frequently or perhaps at all. Instead, he often gives fake names to others which usually sound a little bit "classy". If something in question demands his real name, and he deems the endeavor important enough, he will give it under the condition of anonymity. He only gives it out if he can trust the person or institution in question, so I assume he trusts the owner of this detective agency or the agency itself. Assuming he even needs to present a proper name to begin with.
  33.
  34. I'm even going to modify biography to have a fake name in it.
  35.
  36. 2. Physical Appearance: Pure human. White skin. Amber eyes. Bald. No beard, no mustache, very little hair in general actually. No scars or noteworthy blemishes. One eyebrow almost always raised, constant light smile. Pointed chin, sort of has that traditional evil wizard look (I don't intend him to be evil though!)
  37.
  38. Not particularly attractive, but rather "interesting" looking. Think along the lines of Steiner from Final Fantasy 9. --- https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/8/82/Steiner_CG_Faces_FFIX_Art.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130321032400 --- Your first thoughts about Steiner are probably not "he's attractive!" or "he's ugly!", it's probably more along the lines of "what the heck is going on with this guy's face." Montgomery is similar, although perhaps without the crazy looking eyes.
  39.
  40. 3. Clothing and Attire: The most stereotypical detective attire I can think of which is basically this, but in black/dark colors and with a tall top hat instead, minus the gun: https://smhttp-ssl-39255.nexcesscdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/A-Dapper-Gent-in-his-Shooting-Attire-600x900.jpg
  41.
  42. He carries around a completely unnecessary cane, the top of which houses his arcane focus (I guess some sort of magic sphere) and also acts as the handle.
  43.
  44. Also I'm going to use the most stereotypical British accent that I can muster up for him. Hopefully.
  45.
  46. 4. Education: A mixture of self-taught work (perhaps sneaking an arcane book here and there while young), parental tutoring (once they realized they weren't going to stop him from learning anyway, and perhaps that they shouldn't prevent him from doing so), and formal Wizard's College level education. I don't know what schools exist in your world, so pick appropriately.
  47.
  48. 5. Dunno why he exactly picked Illusions over anything else, "just because" I guess. I'll figure it out eventually. It was more based on what I wanted to play rather than an extensive lore piece.

  53. Stuff about Montgomery's Parents
  54. __________________________________________________________
  55.
  56. 1. The mother is a Sorcerer. The father is some sort of Bard, although not really a musical sort of guy in the traditional sense.
  57.
  58. 2. The general idea is that they were previously successful adventurers, now retired and completely flipping rich, perhaps with connections in high places and some kick-ass house with some crazy magical stuff hidden around that even Montgomery doesn't know about. Despite this, Montgomery has mostly been shielded from their past experiences (intentionally), and although he knows they were explorers that were often in danger in the past, he's not quite aware to the extent of it.
  59.
  60. He was also not necessarily raised as a "nobleman;" despite the wealth his parents had, it was not flaunted and they were and still are rather humble people. He does not have any notable knowledge or access to any artifacts his parents have (maybe?) previously acquired, and they're not particularly interested in sharing them with him, preferring to let him experience the world for himself. Basically, he does not have any immediate item or connections advantage over the other starting characters, and I do not want him to have them.
  61.
  62. 3. They're nice people, and always intended to do good things. Whether that was always the outcome is a different story.
  63.
  64. 4. There is overall a healthy family relationship, although often his parents and him go months or up to a year at a time without extensive contact. Perhaps the infrequent note shows up or gets passed along. One of the parents probably can just cast Sending or has an item that can do it, but they've never sent a message to him in this manner.
  65.
  66. 5. You can select their first names if you would like, I feel like that's more appropriate for you to handle. Their official last name should be Dervish, but perhaps that's not necessarily their real or original last name either. Do whatever you want with names honestly.
  67.
  68. 6. You're free to use them as a plot point if you want, I am clearly heartless and do not actually care what happens to them (Montgomery does though!). You can use them for whatever you need, although I'd prefer it if you don't make them a frequent encounter. Preferably, they don't show up "in person" for very long or become a focal point at all until significantly later in the campaign (level 10+ maybe?) if you decide to use them as a major component of your story. I don't want to roleplay family bonding time constantly really :^)
  69.
  70. 7. I dunno where they live in context of the world. They likely live in a large bustling city somewhere, not in some rural hideaway.
  71.

  74. Please do not share this information spiel with anyone else. For gameplay reasons most of this should not be shared with the other players until the appropriate time. Thanks.

  76. Let me know if there's anything else you need or want to know. Some of this may change later.
