- Writer's Craft Notes
- - basically "How to break hearts on the pages"

- - write 3 book reviews (he says they're essays at first). doesn't want "academic style"
- - not about "literary theory"; instead, finding and developing the creative voice of your own
- - books (on the syllabus): Antimatter Blues (talking about 2 weeks from tonight!! meeting with author 3 weeks from tonight. should be at Lift Bridge Bookstore). The Dugup Gun Museum. SAM. Triangle Ray. check libraries too!!
- - abe books = buying from bookstores instead of megacorp
- - discussion board questions on Brightspace, due prior to class. not essays! first thoughts out of head. no real length requirement. you CAN respond but no need to
- - office is Libartsbuilding 252, MW 4-6pm. loves talking to students outside of class. wants students to visit. it is NOT weird to visit.
- - can't makeup classes, but CAN miss classes
- - no final! third essay is final
- - don't draw a connection between the two books in a review. just talk about them individually
- - read the essay out loud before turning it in. if it doesn't sound like me, revise it
- - settling into your voice now--the voice you feel comfortable/natural in. nobody can tell you how to do it.
- - grad student essay: 1000-1500 words for each review.
- - writing tutoring at the ASC (Brown building) with Rana & other girl i forget the name of, make sure to learn it
- - bring a pen or a pencil next week
