  1. And so the sun rose, the day was here. It was finally here. Fillies and colts already marching off to another day of school. And for Mono, his first. Atleast he would hope. But Dreamland still beckons to him as he quietly sleeps on his bed, dreaming of fingers he once had. His father had gone off to work, his mother was home. She entered Mono's room and smiled happily at her sleeping boy. It was finally time for school, time to watch her son walk off to become a stallion. She walked over to Mono and gently tapped him.
  2. >Spirit: Mono, sweetie. wakie wakie.
  3. Mono groaned, and turned over. Spirit found it adorable, and tapped him again, her voice was docile and sweet.
  4. >Spirit: Mono, wake up. everypony is already off to school. You don't want to be left behind do you?
  5. Mono turned over again, groaning and even swatting his mother's hoof away. Spirit giggled, Mono wasn't used to waking up too early. It was just so adorable to her.
  6. >Spirit: I'll lift you really hiiiiigh again~
  7. Mono's eyes lit up, and he slowly looked at his mother "y-you wouldn't"
  8. >Spirit: I would if you just lay there all day sleepy head. It's time for school!
  9. Mono yawned, and felt alittle bit of an energetic boost in his body and mind, was it the mention of school? being lifted? or was it the cake? He didn't stop to consider these things. It was showtime! "Oh geez already?! I gotta get up, I got to get ready!". Mono quickly hopped out of bed and immediatly into the bathroom to prepare himself. Spirit was abit surprised, she was sure Mono was going to be anxious about it, or fearful like it seemed he had been. But he suddenly seemed ecstatic, maybe everything stuck? Or maybe her son was a schitzophrenic. She was happy though, better an excited and smiling son than a depressed and manic one. She took a small breath and exited to the living area and into the kitchen, stopping only to exclaim...
  10. >Spirit: Breakfast is ready for you when you come out sweetie!
  11. Mono was quick, he didn't want to miss this oppurtunity. Sure the mysterious Twilight would be coming tommorow, but today was the days of first impressions. He brushed his teeth, took his bath. And went to put on his clothes, until he smacked his face realizing he doesn't need any. And with that he ran out to the kitchen dining room, and saw his bowl of milk and oats. Jumping at it like a rabid beast and finishing it in moments, while Spirit stared, speechless.
  12. >Spirit:......
  13. Mono looked over to his mother and jumped down from his seat and hopped about. He didn't care how childish it was. "Mom Mom Mom Mom! come on come on come on! Don't just stand there! we gotta go now! now now now! hehe!". Spirit took a moment to compose herself as Mono ran off to the living room to open the front door.
  14. >Spirit: ahrm..mmm...yes, let's...let's go.
  15. Spirit stepped out as Mono happily walked along side her. she looked down at his mirthful face. It made her feel warm and happy, but made her feel uncertain aswell.
  16. >Spirit: Mono, sweetie. I didn't think you'd be all this thrilled. Alot of ponies your age actually are scared of thier first day.
  17. Mono stopped and thought, an arrogant look flashing on his face more a mere moment. [That'd probably be true if this really was my first day~....neheheh] "I'm not worried mom, today is full of endless possibilities! Besides that, I get to make you and dad proud too!"
  18. >Spirit: Mono, we'll always be proud of you. And we always want you to do your best. Just don't overdo it alright? You don't need to overstress yourself.
  19. Mono was feeling way to good, His mom's worry only seemed to fuel this euphoria instead of making him wary. "You worry too much mom, come on!" he nudged his head into her and pumped his right front hoof "Aren't you like? a super kickbutt pony?". Spirit sighed.
  20. >Spirit: in my old days sweetheart, and even if I still was. I have much more responsibilities now. A job. And I have to especially make sure you are ok at all times.
  21. Mono just trotted in a small circle infront of her and gave her a look that simply defined narcism. "Mom, I've never been not ok. So I had abit of an erfy moment or two. But I always come out alright. so don't worry ok? really, i'll be juuuuuust fine"
  22. Spirit thought about what to say, she didn't want to ruin his little ride of enthusiastic confidence. But she didn't want him to crash and burn. And then she thought what if he doesn't crash and burn? or maybe just let him have his space, and be there to catch him if something goes wrong. she put a big smile on her face and gave a hearty laugh, deciding encouragement might actually be best.
  23. >Spirit: I know, just me being a mom. I can already tell with my "kickbutt" instincts that your really going to wow everypony in that class.
  24. Mono felt a surge in his body from those words. Then started to look around as colts and fillies headed down the same general path and into the school. Mono looked up at his mother, he already knew the way to his class. He wanted to go on alone at this point, though his heart felt a twinge knowing he wouldn't be around her or his father for quite some time. "Well mom, there it is. I'm ready.....I love you, and...well...seeya after class"
  25. Spirit felt her heart break, a small tear going down her eye. Mono noticed and cringed slightly. he looked down and back up as he frowned sadly. "Mom? what's wrong?" [....mmnnn....come on, mom....I know. But it had to happen...]
  26. >Spirit: ....it's just....my baby is going to school. It was like, only yesterday...I was changing your daipers. ngh, and now you are going out on your own. I just...
  27. Mono nuzzled his mother, he knew she was going to say it. And despite it's cliche, he couldn't help but feel empathetic to her sadness. He didn't want her to be sad. "I know mom, but...I'll be back you know? Come on. I'll be back when class is done. I'm not really going anywhere."
  28. >Spirit:.....I know....Mono?
  29. "mom?"
  30. Spirit leaned down and grabbed her son and cried, it was the tightest hug Mono ever had the misfortune of being in. Because he almost couldn't breath. But he held it in. Letting his mother have her moment.
  31. >Spirit: please be very very very very good, and don't eat anything strange, and make lots of friends, and and....
  32. Spirit noticed her grip and let go of Mono, he was doing his best to keep his footing but he was abit dazed. [........I think...I saw heaven for a moment....]
  33. Spirit sighed, never had she felt so protective and yet so helpless. She gave a small kiss to Mono and nuzzled him again.
  34. >Spirit:...sweetie, will you honestly be alright?
  35. Mono composed himself and gave a toothy grin. "Mom, I promise. And besides, you know i'm already a smartie. right?"
  36. Spirit slowly nodded, and wiped her tears with a brush of her leg. and put on her best brave face.
  37. >Sprit: you are, and don't let anypony tell you different!
  38. Mono nodded, and turned to the schoolhouse. then back to Spirit.
  39. "hehe....mnnn...Seeya mom, I love you. I'll see you soon, ok?"
  40. >Spirit: I love you too son, I'll be right there.
  41. She moves her hoof to Mono's chest, right where his heart is.
  42. >Spirit: I always be there no matter what.
  43. Mono felt like having abit of a moment, it was touching. But school was almost starting. "I'll remember that always mom...bye..."
  44. >Spirit:...bye...
  45. And so Spirit watched her son hesitantly walk off into the schoolhouse. Her tears returning as she stood there. Some of the other parents just looked at her. But one had came up to her to see if she was alright. As for Mono....It was finally time.
