The Avatar of Oz would symbolize many things, the main reason his connection to it is solid is because of the self symbolization of the Avatar to Oz himself. His Avatar would reflect his deepest feelings, those that are buried in his subconscious mind. It would reflect his emotions, his sensations, and his behavior. The awakening process of Oz was pretty much a symbolized summarization of his entire life, guided step by step by his Avatar - his true reflection which appears like Oz himself, but in a flawless version that slowly show him the way to become one with it, guiding him step by step with reflective sensation.

Avatars could symbolize many things, some of them could have potent meanings while some of them are barely visible. The Avatar of Oz however, is a flawless reflection of himself. It's guiding him step by step through self-reflective experiences, slowly showing him the way towards ascension. Even his awakening was nothing more but symbolized summarization of his entire life, which was guided through his Avatar to ascend the bubble he was living in. Whatever he does, whatever he feels, has SOMETHING to do with the nature of his Avatar, he's majorly influenced by it, and can almost feel it in his bones. He follows its directions almost blindly as he can feel strong urges to listen to its "whispers". By now, he could also himself tell that he's changing.
