  2. Procyon
  3. After quite a long time of searching, you finally find a group of 4 imps, 2 ogres, and a something else
  4. A snakey thing
  5. → ProcyonGf has joined
  6. Procyon
  7. They havent noticed you.
  8. Your move.
  9. Levi_Devaux
  10. I don't know what this snake creature is, I should approach with caution. I think to myself.
  11. Procyon
  12. They are all huddled in a group, but on the other hand, the snake thing is probably on another level above ogres.
  13. Levi_Devaux
  14. I sneak closer to try and get a closer look.
  15. Procyon
  16. ((btw ProcyonGf is the one who did the sick portia art))
  17. Levi_Devaux
  18. And try to gauge the snake monster's strength relative to mine.
  19. ((you have the sickest art skills, I would praise you more, but I think your boyfriend's about to kill me))
  20. stardustBlockbuster
  21. ((ty for the awesomely made art))
  22. Procyon
  23. ((maaaybe levi))
  24. Someone puts a hand on your shoulder
  25. Levi_Devaux
  26. I look around in shock, having been focussed on the monsters and not paying attention.
  27. Procyon
  28. "Levi..."
  29. Sir Kid is whispering to you.
  30. He makes a 'follow me' gesture with his hand.
  31. ProcyonGf
  32. ((^u^ much appreciated))
  33. ((sorry, i missed those))
  34. Procyon
  35. He floats out of earshot of the monsters
  36. Levi_Devaux
  37. I nod and make to follow him, not sure of his reasoning but accepting his logic.
  38. Procyon
  39. "These are all the underlings in this part of the land."
  40. "Almost all of them, that is"
  41. "They have gathered due to you hunting their kind."
  42. Levi_Devaux
  43. "THey have? IS this a method the game has for making later battles more difficult?"
  44. Procyon
  45. "This is simple pack mentality. They require strength in numbers."
  46. ((retcon that, they require strength
  47. "They find that strength in numbers."
  48. Levi_Devaux
  49. "IS there some method by which I Could separate them, or otherwise gain an advantage?"
  50. Procyon
  51. "I doubt it. They are scared."
  52. "Yes, these monsters do have intelligence, especially the snake."
  53. Levi_Devaux
  54. "I Must confess SIr KId, I Was not aware of this. IN truth I Recall one of my companions informing me that as they grew in strength there was a decrease in their intelligence."
  55. "DO you mean to say that I Have been hunting intelligent beings as though they were mere beasts?"
  56. Procyon
  57. "Yes."
  58. "They are not smart, but they are sentient."
  59. "Ogres, not so much, but imps, yes, basilisks, yes, liches, giclops, everything above these are intellignet."
  60. Levi_Devaux
  61. "OH dear, I Am afraid that would render my recent behavior rather morally questionable, I Had no intention of doing such, I Believed they were mere game constructs, incapable of intelligence."
  62. Levi_Devaux
  63. "IS there some way in which I Could atone for this? I Did not intend to effectively become an arbiter of their genocide when I Began this game, and I Feel simply terrible now that I Am faced with this knowledge."
  64. Procyon
  65. "Unfortunately, there is no way. They are intelgient, but they have been programmed to fight and kill you by malicious overlords, the black king and queen of derse."
  66. "You have met one of them."
  67. "They have been more..."
  68. "weary of players after the fiasco with my co-sprite Roland and his player, this Portia
  69. Levi_Devaux
  70. "I Have met both of them, and I Must admit I Am less than impressed by their virtues. IT still saddens me greatly that I Must do battle with intelligent creatures such as these."
  71. Procyon
  72. "I'm afraid you must."
  73. "Please, let me explain something."
  74. "You have one path to strength."
  75. "These monsters, the denizen in the deepest well, and yourself."
  76. "Defeating these will get you strength, but it will cost."
  77. "For these,"
  78. He gestures to the huddle of monsters.
  79. "These underlings."
  80. "They are doomed."
  81. "To you, to the end of this world they will die."
  82. "But if you kill them, they will weigh heavy on your concious, but if you do not, you may..."
  83. "die."
  84. Levi_Devaux
  85. I look at him, eyes wide at these revelations, "then it is them or I?"
  86. Procyon
  87. "No."
  88. "It is neither."
  89. "Either they die."
  90. "Or them and you die."
  91. He fades again.
  92. "Make a good choice."
  93. The entire conversation he seemed more solemn.
  94. But now, at the end, he seemed truly sad
  95. Levi_Devaux
  96. "THey are doomed regardless of my choice... BUt I Will be able to live if I Slay them..." My throat feels dry, I do not wish to kill intelligent beings even if they are doomed, but I do not wish to die. An image flashes through my thoughts, my sword, dripping with her blood, my hands, trying to stem the red tide.
  97. I sit down on the rock and exhale slowly.
  98. I focus on my breathing. Inhale, then exhale. Inhale then exhale.
  99. Once I feel calmer, I stand and look at the creatures, huddled together, afraid... of me.
  100. Procyon
  101. ((they still havent noticed you))
  102. Levi_Devaux
  103. ((I'm dealing with some serious emotional shit here))
  104. ← ProcyonGf has quit (Quit: http://www.kiwiirc.com/ - A hand crafted IRC client)
  105. Levi_Devaux
  106. It is not unusual for a knight to kill his enemies. In truth, it is a recurring theme. Knights are rarely unopposed, and peaceful resolutions are few and far between for them.
  107. They would not show the same mercy to me, and they serve those wretched rulers of Derse.
  108. But, they have been brainwashed, they are forced to fight against me, sent like so many lambs to the slaughter.
  109. I've killed many of them already. It was easy.
  110. Levi_Devaux
  111. I don't know what to do.
  112. I look down at my hand, gripping my sword so tightly that my knuckles have turned white. I'm shaking.
  113. I shouldn't do it, I can't do it.
  114. Procyon
  115. They are all in a huddle, still unaware of your prescence
  116. Levi_Devaux
  117. But my friends, I need to protect them, and the only way to gain the strength I need is through slaughter.
  118. Levi_Devaux
  119. Why is this so hard? It should be easy! A knight would not shirk from the killing of those who stood between him and the protection of those he cared for, especially if they were agents of his foes.
  120. I need to fight, I need to be a knight, I need to protect my friends, regardless of the taint that may arise on my soul from doing so.
  121. I know I need to do this, so why can't I?
  122. Levi_Devaux
  123. The correct choice stands before me, blatantly obvious. They are doomed, I am not, nor are my friends. I should kill them, claim them as sacrifices to my strength so that I might protect.
  124. My thoughts are just going in circles.
  125. Levi_Devaux
  126. There is no clever solution to be found within this, it is only kill them, or everyone I care about including myself dies alongside them. I save no one by refusing to fight, and yet, when I tell myself to move forward, to attack, I cannot.
  127. I stand, unable to move forward or turn back, paralyzed by the awful choice before me.
  128. Levi_Devaux
  129. I need to do it, for myself, for my friends, for the chance that we may be able to oppose the king. I know that much, but they are sentient beings, who am I to sentence them to slaughter? They're doomed regardless of my choice, all I can choose is whether to be doomed alongside them or to not be.
  130. Levi_Devaux
  131. I recall Roland's words, a blade shaped like courage. Is it more courageous to destroy them even if it may be wrong, accepting the weight of their suffering upon my soul, or to stand by the idea that I ought not even though it shall result in my own destruction?
  132. Levi_Devaux
  133. A knight would kill them. A knight would be brave enough to shoulder these burdens. Is that why I cannot? Because I am a coward?
  134. Is it only my fear that paralyzes me in this moment?
  135. If I choose to flee now, will I ever stop running?
  136. Levi_Devaux
  137. At a loss, I decide I ought to try something, no matter how unlikely that it might work. I kneel down, holding my sword's handle in both hands, so that the blade is perpendicular to the ground. I lean my forehead into it, and pray.
  138. Levi_Devaux
  139. I am not religious, or at the very least I have never given much thought to the matter, but I know knights would pray for guidance when faced with difficult decisions, so I try.
  140. Levi_Devaux
  141. I pray to god, to jesus, to any religion I can recall ever having learned of, and I pray to my sister. I pray for guidance, that I might make the good choice Sir Kid spoke of.
  142. Levi_Devaux
  143. But no one came. It was a silly idea, to think that some higher power would come to my rescue, to think I could shirk this duty of morality, that I could be free of the curse of freewill.
  144. Levi_Devaux
  145. I stand once more, and look at them, my "enemies".
  146. Levi_Devaux
  147. As I look at them, an image comes to my mind, unbidden.
  148. Lily, dead, the black king standing over her corpse.
  149. Levi_Devaux
  150. It horrifies me, almost every part of me rejects the idea, trying to show it as false, but another part whispers, "this is what your failure will bring."
  151. And suddenly, the choice isn't as hard.
  152. The cold cruel reality, that if I don't do this, if I don't fight and destroy every last one of these monsters, all my friends will die, throws this choice into stark clarity.
  153. I adjust my grip, and take a step forward.
  154. Levi_Devaux
  155. And then, as though that broke down the wall between myself and battle I'm charging, all pretenses of stealth or subtlety thrown to the wind, I race at the monsters with everything I have, ready to end them all just for the chance to save my friends.
  156. Procyon
  157. ((you can get at best, 3 imps and an ogre in a pierce.))
  158. Levi_Devaux
  159. I do so, thrusting my blade forward in an attempt to hit all of them.

  395. What's the formation of the enemies around me?
  396. Procyon
  397. There is an ogre right behind you, a basilisk on the floor next to it, an ogre with full hp prostrate next to the basilisk, and they're all i a semicircle around you
  398. there's an imp in front of you
  399. Levi_Devaux
  400. Alright, from my position, if I were to pierce through them, how many could I theoretically get in one swathe and how far behind them could I get?
  401. Procyon
  402. 3, the big ticket ones
  403. Levi_Devaux
  404. Oh wait, this is the turn where I already used my major, whoops.

  406. yep
  407. move and minor
  408. Levi_Devaux
  409. Ok, I flashstep 30 feet away from the closest enemy and then walk another 20 feet. Which should bring me 50 feet away from the top ogre, correct?
  410. Procyon
  411. yep
  412. Levi_Devaux
  413. Alright, I end my turn and pray I didn't make a huge mistake.
  414. Also, I'm at 8/11 pp now.
  415. Procyon
  416. The ogre runs after you
  417. It can not catch you
  418. Procyon
  419. The imp goes after you next, followed by the other ogre and then the basilisk.
  420. None are able to catch you, but the basilisk gets dangerously close
  421. Levi_Devaux
  422. Alright, roughly how close did the basilisk get?
  423. Procyon
  424. 5ft
  425. * Levi_Devaux almost vomits form stress
  426. Levi_Devaux
  427. Ok, good thing I didn't make a huge mistake then.
