  1. [20:24] <[GM]Charles> ... and over here, we have the kitchen. You'll find that it's fully featured and very well stocked.
  2. [20:24] * [GM]Charles has been leading you all on a tour of the mansion. So far, he's shown you the dining hall and your rooms.
  3. [20:25] * Aileen yawns. This is all so very interesting, but I wonder...
  4. [20:25] * Aileen interrupts with a slightly raised hand.
  5. [20:26] <[GM]Charles> ... you have a question?
  6. [20:26] * [GM]Charles pauses, and turns around
  7. [20:27] <Aileen> Yeah. I was wondering if you have a policy on concealed weapons here.
  8. [20:28] * Aileen doesn't as much as glance at Irene, but keeps her in the corner of her eye.
  9. [20:30] * [GM]Charles grins, just a tiny bit.
  10. [20:30] <[GM]Charles> No, we do not. We have found that some people feel more comfortable with them. As long as they are concealed, there are no issued.
  11. [20:30] <Aileen> Is that so...
  12. [20:32] <Aileen> Well, that's good to know. I only asked because I was the victim of a stalker one time... But I would see any reason why someone would be out for me all the way out here.
  13. [20:33] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Concealed weapons? But then it's so easy to, you know, murder everyone in their sleep and turn their corpses into fertiliser. Hypothetically, of course."
  14. [20:35] <Aileen> Hypothetically, a murderer would fear for his own life when his hypothetical victims can defend themselves with hypothetical deadly force. And many of them sleep very lightly. Hypothetically.
  15. [20:36] * Aileen doesn't try to look very hypothetical to Cecilia
  16. [20:36] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Ah, I guess you'll have to go the extra mile and spike their tea as well. Hypothetically."
  17. [20:36] * [Nom]Cecilia is totally hypothetical because she is a good girl these days
  18. [20:37] <Aileen> I don't drink tea.
  19. [20:37] <Aileen> Anyway, sorry for the interruption. Please, continue, sir.
  20. [20:37] * [Rut]Cindy is trying to pay attention to the tour, rather than the crazy. Which is difficult, as there is far more crazy than anything else.
  21. [20:37] <[Nom]Cecilia> "But you're not hypothetical, so that's alright."
  22. [20:38] * [Tess]Clara runs her thumb on the hammer of her revolver without cocking it, having listened to the discussion with a sort of stern approval.
  23. [20:38] <[GM]Charles> Questions are reasonable. But yes, let's continue...
  24. [20:39] * [Zem]Irene is also listening attentively.
  25. [20:39] * [GM]Charles continues on, pointing out various features of the mansion. The indoor pool, the game room, the fitness center...
  26. [20:39] <[Rut]Cindy> . o (Ohhh... what did I get myself into, signing up with these people? I hope they offer a medical plan...)
  27. [20:41] <[GM]Charles> ... these are all free for your use, although I ask that you refrain from consuming too much alcohol at the bar.
  28. [20:41] <[GM]Charles> And, of course, that you take care of any tasks that might arise first.
  29. [20:42] <Aileen> Of course. Alcohol's disgusting, anyway.
  30. [20:42] <[Rut]Cindy> I'll do my best, sir.
  31. [20:43] <[Zem]Irene> I won't take your hospitality too far by overindulging.
  32. [20:43] * [Tess]Clara just nods.
  33. [20:43] <[Tess]Clara> Sounds fair.
  34. [20:44] <[GM]Charles> Are there any questions, or shall we continue to the basement?
  35. [20:44] <[Rut]Cindy> . o (Though I think some alcohol would be nice right about now...)
  36. [20:46] <[Tess]Clara> No questions so far.
  37. [20:47] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Ooh, you have a basement. That's like a cellar, but shadier."
  38. [20:52] <[GM]Charles> Ahem. Then, I shall lead on. We'll take the long way, although you probably won't using these stairs much. They're rather out of the way.
  39. [20:52] * [GM]Charles motions for you all to follow, taking you a bit past the pool room and opening a set of double doors. There's a staircase just inside.
  40. [20:53] <[GM]Charles> The only things of interest in the basement are the pantry and the laundry room. There is a service elevator that goes to all three floors, as well as a staircase from inside the kitchen.
  41. [20:54] * [GM]Charles leads on. The basement is not so well lit, and not nearly as fancy. The walls are made out of concrete, and there's quite a few doors off to the side that go unmentioned as you walk.
  42. [20:55] * [Tess]Clara looks at the doors as they go. They seem unusually well maintained for a basement level...
  43. [20:56] <Aileen> Where does it all go?
  44. [20:58] <[GM]Charles> Oh, these? Storage, mostly.
  45. [20:58] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Uninteresting stuff, Charles said. Which automatically makes them very interesting."
  46. [20:59] <[Rut]Cindy> Are the cleaning and maintenance supplies kept down here?
  47. [21:00] <[GM]Charles> They are kept in the basement, yes, but further down. We keep a few cleaning carts for your use.
  48. [21:01] <[Tess]Clara> Are there things in here it would be inconvenient for us to know about?
  49. [21:02] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Because you should totally tell us."
  50. [21:03] <[Rut]Cindy> . o (I don't want to know about those things! Be quiet!)
  51. [21:04] * [GM]Charles sighs.
  52. [21:05] <[GM]Charles> This mansion also doubles as the Parasol corporate vault. Most of the rooms are empty, but we do have an extensive archive down here.
  53. [21:06] <[GM]Charles> Formulas, payroll data... many things. Things that do not need upkeep, and so they should not interest you.
  54. [21:07] <[Tess]Clara> Some secrets do represent investment, after all.
  55. [21:07] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Well, don't worry, I'm sure all your important corporate information are totally safe with the random strangers you've hired off the streets to live and work in your mansion."
  56. [21:08] * [GM]Charles grins a little.
  57. [21:08] <[GM]Charles> They are. We do have more security than a locked door.
  58. [21:11] <[GM]Charles> In either case, up here, we have the laundry room and cleaning supplies.
  59. [21:12] * [GM]Charles opens a door at the far end of the long hall, leading into a much better lit room. There's a bunch of industrial washers and dryers in here, and a four cleaning carts that seem to be pretty nice
  60. [21:13] <[Zem]Irene> "That looks quite adequate."
  61. [21:13] <[Nom]Cecilia> "In fact, they seem pretty nice."
  62. [21:16] * Aileen wishes s/he could be so impressed with cleaning equipment. Clean clothes are nice, but do bigger washers really make for cleaner clothes?
  63. [21:16] <[GM]Charles> The elevator that I mentioned earlier is over there...
  64. [21:16] * [GM]Charles gives a quick motion with his hand
  65. [21:17] <[GM]Charles> ...and the pantry is down that direction. We'll be walking through there on the way back.
  66. [21:18] * [Tess]Clara follows with her sight but doesn't seem to be trying to commit it all to memory too hard.
  67. [21:18] <[GM]Charles> The machines should be fairly simple to operate, but there are directions located near the sink on that wall.
  68. [21:19] * [Nom]Cecilia has the urge to start pressing buttons right away
  69. [21:22] <[GM]Charles> Now, then. I'll take you all through the pantry, and we can be done with this tour. The organization system may be a bit confusing so I'd like to---
  70. [21:22] * [Rut]Cindy isn't that good with machines, but had learned out of necessity, lest she lose her fingers in one of her past factory jobs.
  71. [21:23] * [GM]Charles pauses as a dull metallic clang sounds through the room. It sounds as if it's coming from behind you all, back towards the archives.
  72. [21:23] <Aileen> ?
  73. [21:24] * Aileen peers over her shoulder.
  74. [21:24] * [Tess]Clara does an immediate about face, looking over with curiosity.
  75. [21:24] * [Rut]Cindy glances behind her. She didn't remember anyone following them...
  76. [21:24] <[GM]Charles> ... hah. Do not tell the master that I said this, but the plumbing is not exactly the best. It often makes noises, and the concrete down here amplifies them.
  77. [21:25] <[Rut]Cindy> Oh, the plumbing! Of course...
  78. [21:25] <[Zem]Irene> Is there anything we can do to ix it?
  79. [21:26] <[Tess]Clara> ...Odd noise for water pipes.
  80. [21:26] <[GM]Charles> Try not to pay it too much mind. It can be rather unnerving at times, but you will get used to it.
  81. [21:26] <Aileen> What sort of plumbing goes "clang"...?
  82. [21:26] * [Rut]Cindy could use a drink. Jumping at something like that... why was she getting such a bad vibe from all of this? It must be her present company.
  83. [21:28] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Shouldn't you be trying to hire, er, plumbers?"
  84. [21:29] <[GM]Charles> We haven't found the source yet, but we believe that it has something to do with shoddy mounting somewhere. There are a lot of pipes to search.
  85. [21:32] * [GM]Charles shrugs
  86. [21:32] <[GM]Charles> I am the plumber. If any of you are good at that sort of thing, perhaps I'll call for your assistance some day. Now, shall we continue?
  87. [21:33] <[Nom]Cecilia> "I thought you were the--"
  88. [21:33] <Aileen> Yeah, let's get out of here.
  89. [21:35] <[Rut]Cindy> U-uh, I'm not a plumber, but I can certainly help if you need an extra pair of hands, sir.
  90. [21:36] * [GM]Charles nods.
  91. [21:36] <[GM]Charles> In either case, we hope to have the problem resolved soon.
  92. [21:37] <[Tess]Clara> Well, let us know if you need anything in regards to it.
  93. [21:37] * [GM]Charles motions for the group to follow.
  94. [21:37] <[GM]Charles> To the pantry, and then... my, it's getting rather close to lunch. It seems that will be your first task.
  95. [21:38] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Eating lunch? It's one of my areas of expertise."
  96. [21:39] <[Zem]Irene> I... I think he means making it.
  97. [21:39] <[GM]Charles> I do. But you can eat it, as well. The master does like to have company while he eats.
  98. [21:39] <[Nom]Cecilia> "...Oh."
  99. [21:39] * [Nom]Cecilia droops
  100. [21:39] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Well, I'm good at that too, so it's all well."
  101. [21:40] <[Tess]Clara> Anything specific?
  102. [21:41] * [GM]Charles walks down the (much shorter) hall leading towards the pantry.
  103. [21:41] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Oh yes, dietry requirements. You really should tell us if anything would kill the master in horribly painful ways should he eat it. So that we won't make it, of course."
  104. [21:42] * Aileen frowns. Cooking is a skill he neglected to hone in his earlier life, and as of now he probably knows only enough to burn water.
  105. [21:42] <[GM]Charles> The master has asked for "whatever you would like" for lunch, today.
  106. [21:43] <[GM]Charles> He enjoys many foods, and I'm sure that you can find something acceptable. And no, he does not have any allergies.
  107. [21:45] * [Nom]Cecilia suffers one disappointment after another
  108. [21:46] * [GM]Charles pauses as another metallic sound echoes through the halls, although a bit more faintly this time. Then, he continues.
  109. [21:47] <[Nom]Cecilia> "What -have- you been putting down your plumbing?"
  110. [21:47] <[Zem]Irene> Those noises sound like some terrible automaton straining to get free and work its dark will upon the world.
  111. [21:48] <[GM]Charles> ... my apologies.
  112. [21:48] <[Rut]Cindy> -- So! Let's get started in the kitchen, shall we?
  113. [21:49] * [Rut]Cindy tries to set her "colleagues" back on track. God damn it...
  114. [21:49] <[GM]Charles> Yes. I'll give you a quick tour of the pantry first, and then you can get started.
  115. [21:52] * [GM]Charles opens the door to the pantry. It's quite fragrant from all of the spices and things lining the shelves. There's a walk in freezer/fridge on the far wall, and a staircase leading up to the kitchen. He gives you a quick run down of where you can find what.
  116. [21:53] <[GM]Charles> ... now, then. Can I leave you all to your work?
  117. [21:55] <[Rut]Cindy> Of course!
  118. [21:56] * [Tess]Clara nods, looking around the spice racks.
  119. [21:56] <Aileen> uh... Sure.
  120. [21:56] * [Nom]Cecilia scratches her head at all this...stuff
  121. [21:57] * [Zem]Irene wonders how she can help.
  122. [21:58] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Well, er...what were we making again?"
  123. [21:58] <[Tess]Clara> We haven't decided. Feel like anything?
  124. [21:59] <[GM]Charles> 'Whatever you would like'. However, it should be done within an hour. Now, then... if you need anything else, feel free to give me a call.
  125. [21:59] * [GM]Charles gives a slight bow, and leaves through the door heading back into the basement.
  126. [22:00] * [Nom]Cecilia ponders a bit after Charles leaves
  127. [22:00] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Give him a call...how, I wonder?"
  128. [22:05] <[Tess]Clara> That isn't the most pressing issue. Who here knows about cooking?
  129. [22:05] <[Nom]Cecilia> "...I know -about- cooking."
  130. [22:06] <[Zem]Irene> "Well, I know the most important ingredient is love..."
  131. [22:07] <Aileen> Is that so. Mind teaching me?
  132. [22:07] * [Rut]Cindy clears her throat.
  133. [22:07] <[Rut]Cindy> Well, first we ought to decide on what to make.
  134. [22:09] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Well, it'd depend on what he had for breakfast, and what intend to do for dinner, right? We aren't just cooking a meal here. We're making a -menu-."
  135. [22:09] * [Nom]Cecilia knows what she's talking about. Definitely not just making stuff up.
  136. [22:09] <[Zem]Irene> "I'll show you what I know, Aileen..." She looks kind of frightened at being put on the spot like that.
  137. [22:10] <Aileen> Great!
  138. [22:11] * Aileen seems happy, in a girly way, at being 'shown'.
  139. [22:14] * [Zem]Irene starts preparing food. "I... I hope you can follow along..."
  140. [22:16] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Eh, this is to hard. Let's just take some things to the kitchen and go with it."
  141. [22:16] * [Tess]Clara looks closely, trying to find something she's familiar with. She isn't so well versed, so it isn't much.
  142. [22:16] * Aileen tries to follow along, but pays more attention to Irene than the meal.
  143. [22:18] * [Rut]Cindy starts rummaging through the cabinets, taking anything that occurs to her.
  144. [22:19] * [Nom]Cecilia grabs some fresh meat, some spices, and some funny looking vegetables. Cooking is a science--all about experimentation
  145. [22:22] * [Nom]Cecilia tries to finds her way up to the kitchen
  146. [22:24] * [Zem]Irene seems too shy to do much explaining, especially with Aileen giving her the eye.
  147. [22:25] * Aileen follows along anyway, in fact instigating replies(regardless of how shy they may be) by asking exceedingly simple and perhaps stupid questions.
  148. [22:28] <[GM]Charles> The kitchen is rather well furnished. Two ovens, 8 burners, a microwave, a (much smaller) refrigerator/freezer combination, and a wide array of kitchen appliances/pots/pans/utensils stashed away in cabinets
  149. [22:28] <Aileen> What's this here? Where do you put this? How do you do that? Is that safe?
  150. [22:29] * [Rut]Cindy doesn't know much about cooking, so she just follows along with the mess of ingredients she picked out.
  151. [22:29] * Aileen etc. She intentionally avoids touching her, however.
  152. [22:30] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Oh, hey! Knives!"
  153. [22:30] * [Nom]Cecilia skips all the fancy appliances and goes straight for the simple tools
  154. [22:30] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Oh, these are good."
  155. [22:31] * [Zem]Irene provides exceptionally short answers to the questions. "A pepper grinder. In here. This way. yes."
  156. [22:31] * [Nom]Cecilia goes to work on...what the hell is she making?
  157. [22:32] * [Tess]Clara goes over to help, and though she does what she can it isn't much.
  158. [22:33] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Love, wasn't it? I can do love."
  159. [22:33] * [Nom]Cecilia nods to herself, and grips a carving knife in each hand
  160. [22:38] <[Nom]Cecilia> "...Whoops."
  161. [22:39] * [Nom]Cecilia has made a mess. There is blood everywhere. In fact, the kitchen is now positively grisly.
  162. [22:40] <[Zem]Irene> "...eeeeee..." She gives off a pitiful squeak at the blood.
  163. [22:40] <[Tess]Clara> Oh... Problematic.
  164. [22:40] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Hahaha. How embaressing."
  165. [22:40] <[Zem]Irene> "Um, um, um, can you get cleaned up?"
  166. [22:41] * [Nom]Cecilia is covered in gore and is wielding two knives while laughing weakly.
  167. [22:44] <Aileen> Jeez... Don't worry, I'll take care of it.
  168. [22:44] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Er, I'm sure it'll at least -taste- good. Probably."
  169. [22:44] <[Zem]Irene> Cecilia's weak laughter sounds maniacal to Irene, and she cowers.
  170. [22:44] * Aileen pat pats Irene's shoulder and approaches Cecilia with some towels.
  171. [22:44] <[Rut]Cindy> W-what happened??
  172. [22:45] <[Nom]Cecilia> "There was an accident. Or ten."
  173. [22:46] <[Nom]Cecilia> "And there was a mincer and a lot of steak and it kind of, er, got out of hand."
  174. [22:46] <[Rut]Cindy> Ah, this, this isn't good! There's a lot of blood. We need to bind those.
  175. [22:46] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Oh, it's look a lot worse than it is. Most of that blood isn't even mine. Probably."
  176. [22:48] * Aileen ties both towels around Cecilia hands(or wherever the wounds may be) roughly, not paying attention to things like "ow" or "that hurts" or "bandages don't work that way" or "don't SQUEEZE it"
  177. [22:48] <[Nom]Cecilia> ,"Ow! That hurts! Bandages don't work that way! Don't SQUEEZE it!"
  178. [22:49] <[Nom]Cecilia> "I told you, I'm fine! Hey, I wasn't even injured there!"
  179. [22:49] * [Tess]Clara looks around for something to clean up the blood with. There must be something on hand...
  180. [22:50] <[Rut]Cindy> At any rate, you shouldn't be working with those hands. I don't know much about cooking, but I can follow directions. Just tell me what to do.
  181. [22:50] <[GM]Charles> You find a drawer full of dish "rags", next to the sink.
  182. [22:51] * [Rut]Cindy rinses off the knives and takes one for herself.
  183. [22:51] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Geez, it really isn't that bad."
  184. [22:51] <Aileen> There. All better.
  185. [22:52] * [Nom]Cecilia but her hands are bandaged stumps now due to a certain someone's overenthusiasm, so she might as well as talk
  186. [22:52] * [Tess]Clara grabs one of the rags and gets in in water, proceeding to clean up the blood itself. As she works, she addresses the rest.
  187. [22:52] <[Tess]Clara> So, better yet?
  188. [22:52] * [Zem]Irene continues working as best she can in non-bloody areas.
  189. [22:53] * [Nom]Cecilia frowny faces
  190. [22:54] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Well, I've cut everything up already...repeatedly. So all that's really left is to cook it."
  191. [22:56] * [Rut]Cindy nods.
  192. [22:56] <[Rut]Cindy> What should I do?
  193. [22:57] <[Tess]Clara> Let me know if there's anything I can do.
  194. [22:58] <[Nom]Cecilia> "Let's just grill it. No one's ever gone wrong with a grill."
  195. [22:58] * [Nom]Cecilia thought no one could go wrong with a simple knives either, so what does she know?
  196. [22:59] <[Nom]Cecilia> "I don't think I'll be much help, so you'll have to split the work up."
  197. [23:00] * [Nom]Cecilia waves her the blobs at the end of her arms around
  198. [23:02] <[Zem]Irene> "If we tried grilling, we'd probably catch your hands on fire."
  199. [23:03] <[Nom]Cecilia> "That--hey, that'd look pretty awesome. If it was happening to someone else."
  200. [23:07] * [Rut]Cindy follows instructions as closely as she can.
  201. [23:16] * Aileen sighs, and returns to Irene's side, not speaking a word.
  202. [23:18] <[GM]Charles> The maids cook, and the GM goes to sleep for the night
