45. On March 21, 1963, the inmates and guards at Alcatraz prison mysteriously disappear. To cover up the problem, the government reports to the public that the prison has been closed because of unsafe conditions. A secret government unit was set-up to find the prisoners. Now, in the present-day, the inmates begin returning - unaged and unaware of where they have spent the missing decades - and continue their criminal ways. They are acting out of character and appear to be searching for specific objects. A federal agent employs a police officer and a conspiracy theory novelist to help track them down.
 46. Switching between eras, Alcatraz focuses on the Alcatraz prison, which was shut down in 1963 due to unsafe conditions for its prisoners and guards. The show's premise is that both the prisoners and the guards disappeared in 1963 and have abruptly reappeared in modern-day San Francisco, where they are being tracked down by a government agency.
 47. I have now watched 4 whole episodes so I thought I'd say my two cents.

As the title suggests this reminds me a lot of Fringe in that it has random characters put together in a fictitious scenario that tries to blend the real world with the sci-fi one. It's still early days but the characters and the story can be honed to something that can last a while but we will know more by the end of the season. Thankfully this is nothing like Lost in that we know the basic story and we slowly learn more and more, hopefully to get some answers by the end of the season. I like Fringe because it has an underlying story-line but every episode has its own case which can be seen (and enjoyed) individually. Lost 'lost me' in the second season and I was glad I didn't stick to it because I would have waisted lots of time to get answers 7 years later, which turned out to be ill-thought to say the least! This series is worth watching and giving it some time if you like sci-fi interspersed with police work (real or TV dramatised) as well as good settings and a bit of mystery, though not too much as to make you lose interest. The characters are there for a reason and they seem to be mono-dimensional so they grow through the series and the different cases though to avid TV fans of a cross-section of genres these things become obvious. Whereas to "hardcore" fans of sci-fi who think that they are comic book heroes/villains/authors then this will be a let down just like everything else that is not their idea!

------------------------ The spoiler bit! ------------------------

Finally, I would just like to say that JJ Abrams is the executive producer and not the creator so the comparisons with Lost are unavoidable but he is not the decision maker on the scenario (thankfully in my opinion!) If this is anything like Fringe then we will know why the 63's have time-travelled and how within a couple of seasons but there will still be a lot of work to be done (catching them, catching the brains behind the operation etc). If this was Lost then we would wait till season 7 to find out that it was all a comic that doc came up with and he was thinking of the whole thing as he was writing it but it never happened!
 48. I have read a few of the reviews of this series and I feel that I must disagree with ALL I have read so far. I haven't seen Lost but from what I saw of the trailers it was not worth watching. We started to watch this last week in Cyprus and we ALL loved it. O.K.it's not award winning but it keeps you wanting to see what happens next. The other thing I must say is if it is a brand new series, how the hell can people review it after just 3 episodes????? If you don't like it don't watch but don't try and spoil it for people who want to watch it. Roll on part four. Again I may be missing something with not watching Lost or other such series but I do think that people should at least give the series a chance. I think that the other reviewers may not have seen the original film of Alcatraz or know much about the Prison but it was supposed to be the ultimate prison where it was impossible to escape from, so the fact that over 300 prisoners were transported out of the joint must give it some credentials??? Personally I am not really bothered what other reviewers have put about this series but I do feel that they are not letting other viewers give it a chance without comparing it to a series that was on years ago and on a different subject altogether. Alright it is similar in a lot of ways but the story line is completely different so again give it a chance people!!!
