- RCX, Private Servers, and You
- RCX is a third-party program that makes playing RO very convenient. It adds nice features like showing where AoE effects are when effects are off, buff timers, and on-the-fly monster information. It is made for official servers, so private servers sometimes have compatibility issues. What follows are the common problems, with solutions.
- >I've never used RCX before, it doesn't work!
- Here's how you set it up. You can find these in your RCX.ini with ctrl+F.
- ROClientExeName or ROWindowClass: Set it to the .exe file that starts RO, not a patcher. For CookieRO, this is cookie.exe.
- APIHookType: Set it to 1. Most private servers work with this setting.
- [Ragnarok]
- Dir: Set it to the path to your RO installation. I don't think this actually affects the majority of RCX's functions, however; it works just fine commented out.
- Once you get in game, RCX will tell you the server's Char Server IP. Add this to the .ini under the list of char servers. This is important to get things like ground effects or Safety Wall counts to work correctly.
- >RCX crashes when I start it, or when it finishes analyzing!
- Change your APIHookType. Most servers use setting 1, but you might have to toggle it.
- If that doesn't work, you need to find a different version of RCX. Older clients have some problems with newer versions, and vice-versa. CookieRO is confirmed to work with RCX 67, the latest version.
- >I get an "analysis of RoAddr went wrong" error!
- RCX uses patch2.txt to determine how to hook to the RO client. If you don't have Sakray, you probably never got a patch2.txt when you patched your client. The link below has a patch2.txt you can use. Add it to the RO folder.

- >It works, but all of these windows are on screen!
- >It works, but how do I actually use it?
- The iROWiki forums actually have a very good topic for learning what settings do. Most game information through RCX is actually optional, so you can turn off what you don't want if you search a bit.
