[22:21] <jamiejackson> this might be a red herring, but i'm noticing weird display stuff even as early as the bios screens. then, when it's, say, looking for fd0 (which i don't have), some letters are colored, and some are substituted with the wrong letter

[23:26] <Primer> right now my ubuntu box boots with a totally black screen between the grub menu and the X login screen
[23:27] <Primer> that fd0 error can be fixed by disabling the floppy controller in the BIOS, btw. It's what fixed it for me
[23:27] <Primer> now I don't have to wait 10 seconds on boot while that part waits to fail
