Jiyoung grew up in Busan with her parents, her brother (Hyungjoon) and her sister (Soonyi). In school, she showed a lot of interest in  gymnastics and acting and so she joined the drama club and her local gymnastics team. Jiyoung excelled in both activities. She and her gymnastics team entered into a national and regional competitions. She won a lot of these competitions quickly worked her way to being one of the best junior gymnasts in the country.

When she turned 16, she had a sudden change of heart though. She gained a sudden interest in music. She started getting sining lessons and rap lessons from a private music teacher. After a year of lessons, she decided she would audition for Jellyfish Entertainment. The audition was a success and she got into the company. A couple of years into her training, she finally got a chance to debut. However, soon after, they had to disband to most of the members leaving. She and the remaining member had one last comeback and soon after officially disbanded. Soon after, tragedy struck once again for Jiyoung. As her family were coming to visit her at her company, they got into a fatal car crash, causing a 12 car pile-up where her family were at the bottom. They were quickly rushed to the hospital but lost too much blood. They sadly died the same day. This caused her to have a year long break from all things music and she pretty much disappeared from the public eye. She soon came back a year later and was met with an opportunity to debut again.

How did you meet?: We met through a mutual friend of ours and when we were all hanging out together, we always just gravitated towards each other.
How is your relationship revealed?: It was a gradual thing. First of all, there were pictures of Jiyoung with a mystery man and the same with Seo Joon. Seperate pictures were taken of them with the same rings on the same hand. They were seen doing similar gestures in videos on their seperate instagram accounts. Then to make it more obvious, Jiyoung posted a story of her watching one of Seo Joon's dramas with heart eyes around his face. This caused a lot of rumours when Seo Joon did the same thing and then finally, they reveal that they have been dating to fans through an Instagram video or press conference. They also admit that they were purposefully being obvious but not too obvious to tease the fans. (damn that was long)
