  1. Hello John,
  2.
  3. Thank you for contacting Lunarpages Internet Solutions & Web Hosting support.
  4.
  5.
  6. There is no technical requirement to change your hosting account's primary domain if you intend to let the current primary domain name expire or will otherwise no longer be using it or will be pointing it elsewhere.
  7.
  8. Instead, you could simply wait until you want or need to host a new, additional domain on your hosting account and just have us change your current primary domain name griswoldsrock.com to that new domain name at that time, rather than try and replace your current primary domain with one of your addon domains.
  9.
  10. Please note that there is no actual technical reason or requirement why you would need to change the primary domain of your hosting account to an addon domain. If you let your current primary domain, griswoldsrock.com, expire or even point it elsewhere than our server, that would in no way adversely affect any addon domains you may be hosting on the same hosting account, or their websites or e-mail accounts.
  11.
  12. The only reason why you may want to proceed with such a change would be purely clerical / administrative. And such a change would in fact introduce several possible technical issues or complications you'd then need to deal with, as outlined below.
  13.
  14. You do not actually need to interchange your primary domain and an addon domain in order to simply redirect visitors to one of these to the other one. You can already do that right now by simply adding a redirect using the Redirects tool in your hosting account control panel.
  15.
  16. For instance, this change would affect which website comes up when visiting your an addon domain domain. If we go ahead, the website that comes up for your an addon domain domain will no longer be the one in your /public_html/an addon domain folder but rather the one in your public_html folder itself.
  17.
  18. That is to say, your current website for griswoldsrock.com would come up for visitors to an addon domain, unless you actually move your website from /public_html/an addon domain to public_html. This is something you would need to please do yourself.
  19.
  20. And we would recommend first moving all files (not any of the folders however) currently residing in your public_html folder to a new subfolder of that directory so as to tidy up the public_html folder by removing any files possibly currently residing there which would not belong to the website for an addon domain but your current website for griswoldsrock.com.
  21.
  22. This would avoid having files belonging to two different websites mixed together in the same folder if you do decide to move your an addon domain website from the /public_html/an addon domain folder to your public_html directory.
  23.
  24. Additionally, please note that what will be the new primary domain for your hosting account, an addon domain, first needs to be removed, before it can be set as your hosting account's new primary domain, if it is currently added as either an add-on or parked domain. And the an addon domain domain does currently appear to be added as an addon domain in your hosting account control panel.
  25.
  26. If you'd like, you can re-add your current primary domain as either an add-on or parked domain after we've performed the change and it's no longer your hosting account's primary domain. You may also have to remove any subdomains you may currently have under what is to be the new primary domain domain, if that is currently added as either an add-on or parked domain.
  27.
  28. All the DNS records for your current primary domain will be inherited by the new primary domain, but with every instance or reference to the current primary domain therein replaced with one to the new primary domain.
  29.
  30. Any DNS records for your new primary domain (if that domain is currently either an add-on or a parked domain) will be lost but can be re-added later, after the switch, if required. But we'd need you to please tell us ahead of time if this needs to be done so we know to copy and save the DNS records of your new primary domain before removing it as either an add-on or parked domain, as the case may be, so it can be re-added as the primary.
  31.
  32. In light of the additional information provided above, please let us know whether you'd still like us to proceed with the primary domain name change for your hosting account.
  33.
  34. It would be up to you to move website files and reconfigure any Wordpress websites to work with the new domain(s) that are accessible under.
  35.
  36. Kindly advise. We look forward to your reply and update to proceed as required.
  37.
  38. Thank you for your time and consideration.
