- -----------------------------------------
- Orc Friend:
- Like Ralof of stormcloaks, but for Orcs?
- Likable and sort of comic relief, funny accent akin to Orcs in warhammer 40K
- Has serious moments where he recounts bad memories, like when bretons committed purges of orcs in past
- 20-30 years old
- Wants to help Orcs rather than kill bretons, just doesn’t know another way to achieve it
- Story arc is he starts off cowardly, but then faces fear of opposing bretons
- -----------------------------------------
- [Scene when character interrupts your conversation with another orc, warning you of an impending assault]
- Boss! Boss! We need ya!
- Chief, the Breton boys are coming. Scout eyed them near the lake with them imps.
- Bretons, boss! Lot of 'em. Scout eyed 'em crossing the lake.
- This it it then. Father, Mother, Malacath eternal! Give me courage!
- [Scene where character approaches you, offering you show you around the camp]
- Hey, heard you're going to snag that necklace thing. Got just the shiny stone that can take you right there. Come, follow an' I'll show ya to it.
- Caught ear that you need to snag jewel, figure you need someone to help ya around first. Come, I'll show ya what's what.
- {Can I get some gear or potions first?}
- Potions? Ah right, ya new here, well I gotta tell ya newblood, we don't brew like the bretons.
- What we drink will give ya more than a kick, better hope you got the gut for Arami's spices.
- First, you gotta get acquainted with our local "merchant". He'll have more than ya need.
- Not much of that round here, we do with what we can find scattered around. From Rocks to the sharpened bones of brothers.
- Though if you're desperate, then we got people who can fetch whatever you want from the cities, come, I'll show you to them.
- I'll show ya to them.
- [Scene where Anka-Ur guides you around Orc camp]
- Been getting many like yourself, fresh into the ranks. Coming from all over, knowing that we're their last hope.
- Next, our shaman.
- Arami is something else, far beyond the other shamans among us. Brought those on death's edge back to fighting form in minutes.
- I doubt we'd make it this far without her help, she's a lesson for all Orcs that we can't just rely on steel.
- Should find most of what ya need around here, the bretons left a lot behind when they scampered east.
- Just mind yourself when you're with us, many Orcs here wont mind putting a newblood in their place if they get uppity. One you don't ever wanna cross is the Firstborn.
- Wondering how much longer we can hold out here, only brought enough food for a couple weeks at most. Not sure what we'll do beyond that.
- There's a lot to this land, dark and twisted, fitting of the manmer. Just gotta pray they keep at each others throats, cos if they ever stop and focus their hate on us...
- Well, Orisinium knows how that ends up.
- First we gotta ya some new friends, of the goblin sort.
- Skevar, pinches what aint tied down within those breton walls. Last goblin we've seen since Orsinium's fall, might be the last of his kind.
- Here he is; Skevar. What the bretons dont nail down, he takes. Probably the last of his kind, but you'll always have us, wont ya Skev?
- Alright, time to pay Arami a visit.
- Mother, I'm home! Hope ya don't mind, I brought a guest.
- Wouldn't have made it a day without Arami, her eye's have seen more blood than any other. Hell for those who heal, eh.
- Arami; this tribe's shaman - got all ya need if ya aint keen on wieldin' metal.
- Breton's call the valley you're heading to "The Maw". Just in case you get lost, always follow the river till you reach the bottom - where you'll find us.
- An' keep sharp around these witch folk, they aint like the bretons that came here. Got the spirit of beasts within them, best keep 'em at arms length. Don't wanna catch anything now.
- See ya around, newblood.
- Better make it back to us, newblood.
- {So what are we going to do?}
- Thought you got briefed by the chief, guessin not - we got one of theirs on the inside, real tragic sort dressed in rags. He's gonna be throwin' a rope down into the sewer for you to get up and near that lord.
- Didn't the chief clue you in?
- {He told me that we're going after the lord, that's all}
- Ha, fair enough, and he wonders why his plans fall through. Lucky for you, I can fill in what he left out.
- Got a real wretch in there; Breton. Must have taken a beaten too many cos now he's helpin us. He'll be throwin a rope down for us to climb. Right to where the lord sleeps.
- {How do you know about Breton sewers? How do you know Bretons?}
- Not like I had a choice, had to snuggle up with the manmer before I met kin. Spent many a year never seein' a green face.
- Guess the tribes outside this land haven't got word of our state?
- Had no choice except to snuggle up with these manmer's - you're new to the reach but word of our struggle here musta reached the outposts in the west right?
- Musta heard about the "purges" these pigs have done on our kin?
- {No, never heard of them, enlighten me.}
- Enlight? Huh? Forgive us, friend, the orcs here aint had time for an education. Think ya can see why.
- So yeah, Bretons been real bad, real bloody. Even made our pain into their little game. Some of those royal types breed us for hunts, ya know that?
- Get a whole brood of us, set us loose, with the horses carrying manmer hot on their trail.
- Got a name for every shame of our kind. Grock-bait, get our young to lure the woemn, lay out traps that shreds both to red mist.
- Green-gold; wanna guess what that is?
- {Go ahead, tell me]
- Scalps friend, ours. Fetch a good price within their towns. Gives a, incentive, for all their lot to come for us.
- Ha, "incentive". You're not the only that knows fancy words.
- {Where are most of the Orcs in High rock?}
- Used to have a gist, but you I can't really tell ya anymore. Lot of us found shade in the woods, but there hasn't been a peep from any of em.
- An' from experience, that's never a sign of something good.
- Enlight - wha? Right, wanna know? Yeah these Bretons have this type a routine, not strict or anything, just seems these pigs get bored - start going on these hunts for Orcs.
- Got our younguns for lure, made our women run out to get 'em, laid traps that ripped both the women and younguns apart. Brothers got mad and expose themselves, got put in the dirt too.
- Got those exile boys recruited, just to make sure we knew how deep their hatred goes. Those of us who survived either fled to the sewers in hiding, or were sent to the quarries.
- {Why do they hate us so much? And what happened in the quarries?}
- Ha, aint that a question. Dunno, don't care at this point, just know they want us dead and gone, or at best slavin' away smashing at rocks. Which brings us to the quarries.
- Why do they hate? Don't know, at this point I don't really care. And from what i've seen, it aint hate, it's pleasure.
- They love our screams, they love an Orc in terror. Why'd you wanna know what goes on in their heads? Only gonna disappoint.
- Bound or buried, that's what they want of us.
- Manmer are little things, weak things. They need us to mine their rocks to build their castles.
- But what the Breton lacks in strength, he makes up in tricks. Damn shame, if only the men of our kind could be shamans too. Not much a blade can do against magic.
- Those quarries break you, we've turned away brothers who we grabbed from those pits. Gave 'em a lookover, chief said they'd be a waste of food.
- Cruel, but ya know, there was truth to his choice. These orcs were gone, staring through you, jaws hanging. Hard to call that living.
- I pray that I never find myself in those quarries, If I'm ever captured, I'll break for it. A quick death than a long one, any day.
- But Malacath forbids it, and now the Orcs fade. The promise of the Ashpit instead of a fighting chance.
- Now you see, these Bretons are too small, weak and pathetic to mine their own rock for their big, shiny castles. So they got a whole bunch of Orcs - that I can't even call kin anymore, dumb and terrified, cracking away out there.
- It'll be a sunny day in the reach when we have to rely on those broken Orcs for help, that's to say it aint ever gonna happen. Right, let's get you in that sewer to kill the little lord. I'll be here for your escape.
- {Let's hurry up and get in there}
- Ah nah, you're going in alone. Proven yaself a better fighter than me, be foolish to send the weaker of the two up there.
- I'll keep your exit clear, make sure ya get out. Be strong, now go.
- {Hey, crawling into another sewer so soon?}
- Life just keeps findin' ways for us to be in the dung, knee deep in the waste of our enemies. Wish I never set another foot in these tunnels, brings bad memories.
- Fate keeps finding ways for me to be knee deep in the dung, ah, could always be worse.
- {How could it be worse?}
- Ha, you don't wanna know. When you think you reached the bottom, it falls out beneath ya, and then you know..
- That it could always be much worse.
- I know I run my mouth, but not here. Pay no mind, these places bring back memories.
- Omens. Hard to forget.
- An' for the obvious, there's gonna be Bretons in there.
- If I aint talking, pay no mind - I'm just thinking about the past and trying to battle back my omens.
- An' before we get right inside, 'case you didn't already know - Gonna be bretons in there.
- {We'll be drawing blood?}
- Nah none of that, these aint the kind to waste breathe over. Most of 'em are in their own worlds, high on that cat spice - others too involved in their own misery to pay us any attention.
- Not here, I hope. Jus' keep your blade at your side and we'll have no trouble. Most down there got their own problems, that or the cat spice got them sleeping.
- So yeah, we don't hassle them and they aint gonna hassle us.
- Though if ya wanna be safe, then cover up - 'cos I can never be sure if a guard has come down for his fix.
- Still, it's best to cover yourself in there - got the odd guard going down for his fix too.
- Enough waitin', I'm ready to go. An' you?
- {Yeah I'm ready}
- Keep close, don't want ya getting lost down there.
- *Sigh* Come on, let's go - pray nothing goes wrong...
- [Scene where character escorts player through sewers, eventually meeting up with other orcs]
- Hey, another newblood - never saw you back at base. How'd you find yourself here?
- Now you aint one I've seen before - How'd ya wind up here?
- He's proved himself in manmer blood, he's loyal alright.
- He's earned my trust through blood, the bretons aint gonna be taking this one back anytime soon.
- She's bought our trust with breton blood, she's proved herself a warrior.
- She's fiercer than any kinman I've seen, I know a traitor when I see one, an she aint it.
- Hush up, sir sharp tongue 'bout to give his big speech.
- But will the manmer listen.
- Hush now, big-mouth 'bout to give his speech.
- Please Malacath, don't let nothin' go wrong.
- Malacath, Hear me, let us have this victory. Sway their minds.
- No, no, no. Not again! We gotta go newblood! We can't let em catch us!
- No! Malacath's blood! This can't happen!
- Ustase?! Here? No, no, no. We can't get caught by 'em. Newblood we goota go!
- [Scene where you attempt to return to the camp, only to discover it was raided by the bretons]
- They've burnt it all. Look...
- Burnin' It's all burning...
- Aint nothin but cinders..
- Jus' like Orsinium, it's happening again, they're gonna hunt us down.
- I can't let it happen again!
- Razed it all to the ground... Aint nothin' but cinders...
- This is gonna be Orsinium, it's all happenin' again...
- {And what if they haven't? The Bretons don't leave loose ends.}
- Newblood you're killin' me with those words, this can't be how it ends. Damn.... It's failed huh...
- It can't end here, we've done so much. So much lost... We're doomed...
- No, no it's a punishment too great.
- Malacath please! Spare us this fate!
- nah, we can't fail, not now...
- {You knew how this would end}
- Yeah but not when, not this soon. Was sure we had more time, chief musta had a plan to get most of us outa there.
- Not like this, we deserved a better end. Was sure we had more time, chief told us that we'd pull through.
- {Chief's dead, killed after the botched raid at Arnima}
- Huh? What? Nah that can't be, he's the one who sent me to these sewers we just escaped. I gotta take a moment to think...
- Ya mean before this?
- {Yes}
- Huh? How'd that? Nah, too much. It's too much. Oh Malacath please guide us.
- Look, we had to get outa that hole. They had them Ustase boys comin' for us, you don't know what they'll do to ya when your caught.
- I jus' aint made for that, no Orc is. Aint bred for what's happenin' down there either. Damn, I'm a coward, but I need to get down there.
- Check if she's alright.
- {I'll go down there and see if there's any surivors}
- Ya will? With all them manmer skulking about? You're the bravest of all us, Malacath blesses those with your courage.
- When you're down there, check the longhouse at the top of the hill, chief's one. Arami must be there, I pray she is.
- She's strong, I know she's still putting up a fight. I'll cover ya from up here, I aint good up close but this bow can rain down a storm.
- Look, I'm sorry about the weakness I'm showin', I aint like the others, I aint bred for this bloodshed.. Lemme spend a while up here to check myself...
- Though I beg you a favor friend, I see our longhouse in flames down there - chief's hut. Arami used to sleep there, I'll be in your debt if you can check to see if she's still kickin'.
- Best not arouse those manpigs down there, they're the most viscious of 'em.
- But I need to ask ya a favor, go down there and see if Arami is still kickin', please. I aint no fighter, I'll just slow ya down. She's normally in the longhouse - so check there first.
- {Alright, I'll see if anyone's still alive down there.}
- I'll owe ya big for this one, I promise on my blood that I'll make it up to ya if ya make it back. Careful down there ya hear? Bretons skulking everywhere, never know when you're in their sights.
- If ya do this for me, I'll be in your blood debt. Anything ya need after, I'll answer. You have my word.
- Be quick, and take care, don't wanna lose you both down there.
- {Why did we run?! We could have helped him.}
- The boy damn sabotaged us, woulda landed us in deeper dung if the manpigs saw there were grocks right under their noses.
- The new kid botched it all, woulda made us suffer his foolery. We woulda just made it worse, an' I don't wish that Luther harm.
- {Is that really the reason?}
- Course..... Why would I lie to ya huh? You'd be looking from the top of a pike at your own body right now if it werent for us runnin'
- What other reason is there? Ya accusin' me of somethin? They'd have cut you up real slow if we didn't get out of that hole.
- {Why did we even "attend" his speech then, if we weren't going to help?}
- .....Look, I can't..... I can't have that happen again. Ya haven't seen what these Bretons do to us orcs when we're cornered and weak.
- ..I can't... I can't have it happen again. You don't know what they can do to us...
- {What do you mean? Spit it out!}
- Right fine! Ya wanna hear it boss? They've cut me from my strength, right between the legs. I aint no orc, I'm just another shame upon our race. 'Member I told you about me hidin' in the sewers?
- Ya really wanna hear it?! Fine then. They reached down an' cut me from my manhood, took away any chance I had to sire my own.
- I aint no Orc, they made sure of that. Useless, can't even shoot straight, nerves shot.
- Can remember the day it happened. Never had a chance to run, thought those sewers were safe, but no where is for us.
- Damnit! I can't remember it without shakin'. What they did to the rest. An even through all the pain..
- I got off lucky.
- Well they caught me, tried forgettin' what they did that night but I can't! The sight still burns in my mind!
- An' every time I look down I have to remember.
- {They mutilated you down there?}
- I aint tryin' to mince words newblood, so yeah, they did. Every Orc they snare gets to experience their sick games, most of our brothers get their virility cut off. Must think that it makes us docile, weak.
- Not gonna mince words: yeah, and they do it to every Orc they grab. It's a way to tame us, make us weak, dumb - without the want to live.
- At least I only had one of 'em cut off, ha! But I was spillin' red all over, makin' a trail for the manmer to follow. Had to sow myself up, an' so I did.
- Rat tails make good string.
- {How did you escape them?}
- Don't really know myself, like the spirit of malacath himself burst within me. Not even iron could hold me down. An' when I managed to break free, I made a meal outa the face who held me.
- Then I ran, must have been a good ten miles or so before I looked back. But I could hear their hounds were close behind, barking for blood.
- Quite somethin', newblood. To truly live before death; nothin' compares.
- Yet they only cut one ball off! Haha! Something came out within me and I broke free, cut right into one of the bastards face and ran.
- And did I run! Even outran their hounds! Musta kept the same pace for damn near half a day, at the end I was shaking. I couldn't control it, I tried to lie down but I just shook.
- I couldn't get caught again, I vowed it. I aint givin' them the pleasure of finishin' the job.
- {I'm sorry, we'll have our revenge soon enough, keep strong.}
- Spare it friend. Heard those hollow words too many times before, every time the Orc dares to hope he gets despair instead. We just gotta survive, as we are - no more reachin' for the clouds.
- Spare it. Hoped too many times, always fell through. Just gotta focus on surviving, nothin' more.
- Just look around - this is what happens when the Orc dares to dream. The bretons come and burn everything we build, not happy till we're screamin in pain.
- The world wants us dead, yet we're just too stubborn.
- But soon the savage falls before the civilized, eh. To put our failed people out of our misery.
- Just open your eyes, look around - Bretons got their way again. The world is tellin' us somethin', it wants us to suffer. It wants us dead.
- "Civilization crushes the savage", they're right, even with all our strength we can't change that can we? We're a failed race, awaiting our death.
- {No! We still breath and are filled with want! Endurance is our greatest strength, unified in our mutual suffering. Malacaths Mettle, we will prevail.}
- Appreciate your words, happy that you still believe even through all this. But we need more than that, we can't keep dreamin' of something better.
- I know you're trying to boost me spirit, an trust me I'm happy that you care. But we need more than words, friend. Aint enough to dream of somethin' better..
- We gotta start seeing better, gotta see results, else more orcs will give up for good.
- We gotta start feelin' somethin' better, we need to see it with our eyes, not just in the mind.
- {The Kingdom is falling apart at the seems, their nobility have grown mad and their poor may soon rebel. When the time comes, we will exploit.}
- Think I know who you're talking about. Yeah, Heard 'em talk foul of their betters, king's 'n' all. But they're weak, like us, what help are they?
- You know I heard 'em too, they've always moaned but never like this. I hear the venom in their hate now. But their weak, like us, they can't do much to those above.
- {Evermore has more enemies than their poor}
- You're speakin' of that Wayrest aren't ya? Know what, It aint just Wayrest either, nah, they got them Witchmen gaining ground up north.
- Damn, that's right. That's why they're actin' like this, showin' no mercy.
- Cos they know they stand on a blade's edge, an' all we they need is an extra push.
- Ha, you've got a good eye newblood. An' you're right, no point givin' up now when we've got so much to gain, an nothin' more to lose.
- Better to die standing.
- Wayrest right? I heard of 'em too? An' those witchmen? Damn, you know we might have a chance, if malacath grants us a miracle and brings all Evermore's demons out at once...
- Then their power might fall.... Guess it's the only ray of hope we got huh?
- Besides, may as well die with hope in your heart, standing firm, than grovelling on your knees. Time to endure some more.
- {What do you think of the Firstborn?}
- A lot of bulk, an' that's pretty much it. Chief's tryin' to reel him in, restrict his power, 'cause he knows he'll bring us ruin.
- I'm willing to die for our kin, but not to have that death wasted for that boy's ego.
- Big guy's gonna achieve our purpose sooner than we think; 'cept it aint gonna be us sacrificing for the cause, but for his pride. I'm willin' to fight an' die, but we can do much more when we're alive.
- {You're not alone in those thoughts, I want us to live too.}
- Right? What a waste to have all this force wiped out in some foolish gamble. Gonna be a dark day when the chief passes on and we have his son givin' orders.
- But chief can only do so much, an' the mighty firstborn is itching for his father's title. Really hope he doesn't clue in to the chief's game.
- Not many of us can stop that boy when he starts seein' red.
- Right? Such a waste to have all this muscle wiped out on some power trip. That firstborn needs to be brought to heel, but even the chief is wary around the guy. Gonna screw everything up.
- Fearin' the day when the chief passes or malacath forbid; challenged by his son. Aint no worse fate than having that mad dog in charge.
- {Glad you have some sense, most of our kin yearn for martydom.}
- I'll tell ya a little secret, I aint a fighter - still feel sick every time I have to draw blood. Given the choice, i'd be well away from here.
- But that's just it, there aint no choice for us. All paths for the Orc are sharp for our pain.
- For us at the bottom, in this struggle against the death of us all - the only way out, is through.
- Never been one to throw the first punch - only reason I'm fighting is 'cause I have to, as you do. We're stugglin' out here and there aint no path for us that aint bloodied.
- Know what I mean?
- {Beautifully put}
- Ha, what would the bretons call it? Poetry?
- *Sigh* If things were different, I'd write all my thoughts. Shame I can't even read eh..
- {Of course, we have a right to live as anyone else.}
- Those outside us don't see it as we do, they see green skin, they see the enemy. The fear, they hate, they kill.
- Even when we've been near wiped out, they believe we still outnumber them. Make up a threat that doesn't exist.
- Were they to know how weak we are, then maybe we'd gain their pity instead..
- Ha! now that's enough crazy for today.
- If only those outside our kin could see what we do, but all they do is play us up. Overstate our numbers, our threat; make the whole world afraid of the Orc.
- Were they to know how weak we are now, then maybe we'd get pity instead of hate.
- {Or they would feel relieved and wish for our demise}
- Or that, yeah. No one out there is gonna save us, it's only us. *Snorts* put myself on a downer, gotta think of Orsinium, think of the good. Need all the morale for what's to come.
- That too, that too. Aint no one gonna show us any heart, this is our fight, an' our fight only.
- What a downer. Just gotta think of our new home, the new Orsinium. Always gives me a little hope.
- [Scene near end of main quest, where kingdom of evermore is getting sacked and Orcs are escaping to Orsinium]
- Malacath's Mettle, you live! How'd you crawl out from there? Been near 2 weeks since this quarry went up in flames.
- By Malacath's blood, you live! This shack was nothing but ashes, how'd you crawl out from there? Been damn two weeks since we last saw ya.
- {2 weeks? Where is that Firstborn?!}
- He took the fight to the manmer's walls, with most of us behind him. Got himself worked into a frenzy, hope we don't cross paths on our way east.
- Chief up north was cut down by the Firstborn, no hesistation. Brought his hammer down on those who rebelled. Was a slaughter.
- Spearheaded the charge on the walls, took the rest of us with him... Most are drunk on revenge and have been swallowed by the thrill of dishing it out. Doesn't help that our new chief encourages it.
- He cut down the other chief, in the north - weighing his hammer down on those who rebelled. It was a slaughter.
- {We gotta put him down before he gets the rest of us killed.}
- Gonna stand against him? Look, you're a friend, an I gotta be honest, that wont end well. Don't waste your life on him.
- Thinkin' of standing against him? Friend I've begun to like you, don't go throwin' your life away just yet.
- {The firstborn knew a challenger was coming, and he was right. I'll be the one who kills him}
- Hey, ya might not need to do anythin. That Evermore is a real mess, breton killing breton, all for themselves. Proper bloodbath.
- Now a big fool rushing through that madness is sure to meet his end.
- You and I can round up the rest of us and make ways east. Follow the road to Orsinium. But as ya know, that's easier said than done.
- Hope you're ready for what's to come, hell lies between here and home.
- Look, you might not have to do anythin'. That Evermore is a mess, their very own are warring against themselves. It's a bloodbath, some type of uprising or something.
- We should round up any of our kin and head east, get on the road to Orsinium. Today's bad but it could get a whole lot worse for us, get ready for a fight.
- {How did you wind up here?}
- Same as most here, aint no hole or shadow the Orc can hide anymore. If the manmer ever lay there eyes on ten orcs or more, the bells are rung and the hunts begin.
- So we're all split up, never getting to know each other beyond a night's meal. Our scars tell stories where words can't.
- Buried or bound, that's what the bretons have for us. But here, we've carved a third path, bloodied towards our dream.
- For our freedom.
- Every day we fight here buys another day for our kin east; Orsinium needs all the strength we can give it.
- Same as the rest, no corner in this land for the orcs to feel safe in. If there's a gathering of 10 or more, then we're seen as a force to be dealt with. So most of us separate, fending for ourselves.
- Even then, still doesn't stop those outside our kin from taking an interest in our bodies; selling us into slavery or claiming the bounty on our heads.
- Got tired of it, heard that Orsinium was forming again and knew it was my only chance to feel some peace, however faint.
- {Did many orcs make it to new Orsinium?}
- When we first got word of Orsinium, hardly any of us believed it, fewer left to see it. Yet recent months have brought more desperation.
- An' we've seen more flee towards its walls, old tribes destroyed with chiefs dead or selling out. Feuds that we thought would never die, did.
- Now our kin rally behind Orsinium and its survival.
- Hardly, we're so few that most know each other like family - old tribal feuds dissolved through the death of chief's to the tribe having been sold out by their elders.
- {Sold out?}
- Don't tell me you're surprised. Traitors have been with us since Malacath brought us to soil. Tempted by coin and pleasure - normally, fate would find them.
- But now, there's even more of them, with no fear of justice. The loss of so many kin for the gain of one.
- But ya know, we never hear of those rats after a while. Not even the bretons know where they are, well most of 'em don't.
- An' the few of 'em that do, know that six feet of dirt hides them from the other traitors who follow.
- You heard right, traitors among us trying to secure their own destiny so they condemn those beneath. Bretons come with bribes, promises of luxury within their walls.
- Musta been too tempting for many a orc - funny thing is we never heard from those traitors again. Wouldn't be surprised if the bretons wen't back on their word.
- {How did you know how to get here?}
- 'member what I told ya, the orcs of this land are few, far between, but we still keep a close eye on each other. Always moving, never slowing.
- Word of new events travel through we who run. Every orc must know where shelter lies. And when we cry for help, then the rest must heed the call.
- 'Member what I said, the orcs in this land are few and far between, but we manage to keep in contact. Always moving, never slowin' in our pace. Always got runners from one camp to another spreading the news.
- And when that news is a cry for help, then we heed the call. No other choice.
- {What's your background?}
- Depends, you want details on my bloodline or my tribe?
- Bloodline or tribe?
- {Either}
- Never knew much of the family, Chief was killed before my birth and mother had other children to rear - what little contact I had with her vanished in a single night.
- Well, our stories always begin with the big man in charge. Chief. Slain before my birth. Mother reared me with twelve others in the wilds west of here.
- Must have been a cub when it happened, when mother was taken away. Waking to screams and smoke, went by so fast that I didn't see who struck us.
- But I knew in my gut who it was - must have been running low on orcs for the quarries.
- Heard screams on my waking, smoke billowing from the hut - didn't see who struck us, didn't stay around to find out. If I had, me and you wouldn't be speaking now.
- {Then you were by yourself?}
- Was far too young and weak to fend for myself - so I followed the common trails that guided each orc to the other. Finally landed on another stronghold.
- Can't make much of yourself alone, makes one go mad. Funny really, getting close to another will make you suffer - but staying away does the same.
- So I settled with them a while, thinkin' of mother and the family. Didn't have much time to dwell, had to prepare for whatever came next.
- The training was rough, some days the others forbid sticks and instead chose sharp iron. Some lost hands, and worse. We were told it'd make us strong.
- But it served another goal, and I knew it, to ensure loyalty. To make us know who leads. Yet I would never question their methods, they were all I had.
- {I see you're fond of the bow}
- Blades weren't doing it for me, wasn't much sense choking on your enemy's stench. Nah, I prefer to keep distance.
- An' before you see the white of their eyes, ten arrows or more brings them low.
- Some will cry about honour, some will scream "coward!", but there's no dignity in having your shit leak through your guts friend.
- An' in the end, a coward is better than a corpse.
- {I disagree, your death must inspire others}
- I've seen Orcs carved from head to toe, so small are the parts that remain, fed to hounds or taken as trophies. Sights like that are far worse than you know.
- {It's better to live and fight another day}
- Not often one agrees, but it's best to keep this between us. The others still have their high ideals and the like, wishing for a glorious death.
- Nah, I was young, needed others to mesh with - sought an identity you know. Can't find that by yourself. Got with another tribe and they treated me well, like their own blood.
- Stayed with them till I was strong enough to wield, and master, a weapon. Though I never was like the others, as they preferred the intimacy of the blade.
- And I preferred the bow - Since you don't have to breathe the stench of the man you're gonna kill.
- {They still out there?}
- No idea, an' I don't really have a way to find out. Chief released me from that tribe about 5 years after I arrived.
- Came across kin who ran messages between the strongholds, told me of the trouble my old tribe was dealing with. Bandits or something, gold and goods as always.
- Headed back to see what's what, see If I could lend a blade, just in case. But the entire camp was deserted, just pure silence.
- What remained was their footsteps, dug deep into the mud, and what seemed to be wagon trails to the side. So with nothing else left to see there, I followed what they left for me.
- An' there I saw it, a convoy, a thousand Orcs long, stretching over the horizon. No doubt there were far more beyond it. All bound to each other in a never ending chain.
- Some had collapsed already, pulled a long by the others. Malacath has allowed much misery for us, but this was surely a sigh of his hatred.
- {Where were they going?}
- The white pits of death, worked till they can give no more, aint no hope for escape once you've reached those mines.
- Not sure, I left 'em when I was still young - must have broke ties 5 years after I settled. Got a message a while later, from a runner, the tribe was being harassed by some bandits.
- Demanding gold and the like, I tried to reach the tribe so I could help 'em out. Yet when I got there it was deserted.
- Followed the footsteps all the way to the convoy; my tribe and countless others; Every orc bound by metal, every one of their limbs shackled. Massive cages for the shamans.
- All destined to work in those quarries, till they hit the dirt. I pray some escaped, no Orc should live out their life as a tool for others.
- {So they're making orcs slaves?}
- Anyone that's not manmer would tell you that, but ya know what these pigs call it? Penance. But know this, all orcs have sinned in the eyes of bretons.
- An' the only way to redeem yourself is through death.
- {The Empire outlaws this, no?}
- Well they didn't outlaw working your prisoners to death, that I know for sure. So the manmer were smart and called the orc a criminal.
- But I feel the imps already know they're being played, the imps just don't care for us. Simple as.
- They call it something else to keep on the empire's good side - penance. Yet all orcs have sinned from birth and there aint no way to seek redemption except death. That's what the bretons told us.
- No doubt under a different name - most of the time It's called "punishment". Try to keep on the Empire's good side, considering their views against slavery.
- 'Course we know that's just a front, those imps don't give a rat's ass what happens to their subjects, unless it interferes with their coin.
- And this "punishment"? Orc existence, for the breton's see every orc as carrying sin from their ancestors. Forever cursed to walk this world a criminal.
- {Who was that Elf at the northern camp?}
- Tall yellow fella? Told us he came from some summer place, not sure exactly. Chief said he was just dropping off weapons.
- But ya know me, got a keen eye - me thinks he's telling the chief where to strike and when.
- An' if that's true, then it'd explain why some of us were sent to certain death. Some of the orders didn't make a lick of sense.
- Still, with all our failures, that elf still praises the chief and stocks us up. Real strange. Wonder what his game is.
- Some high elf from the south, been helpin' us with weapons and tellin' us where to strike.
- But I've been listenin' in when he aint lookin', and I'm confused, none of what he wants helps us at all.
- Most what they tell us brings the Orcs ruin, every quest they send us on ends in disaster. Yet they tell us we're doing a good job - never met a stranger people.
- {They're thalmor, they're not our friends}
- Hmmmmm, never heard of 'em. They important?
- {Do you not know of the great war?}
- Ugh, they were fighting the imps right? Ya know I didn't take heed, had our own problems to deal with up here.
- Just hope they're not another force to reckon with.
- Thalmor? 'Scuse the ignorance friend but I aint got any idea who they are.. Yet it aint surprising we've got another race who plays games with us.
- {They're using us to further their agenda}
- *sigh* As always, you'd think we'd learn after every other race in this cursed world betrayed us. Too eager for help.
- In better times, we'd make 'em pay for using us. But we can't have more enemies right now. Best to avoid 'em I say.
- The goal is Orsinium, aint nothing going to distract us from that.
- Typical huh, the story hasn't changed throughout all the eras. We Orcs are too willing to trust when we're eager.
- Let's try to avoid them, and any others who aint clear in what they want. Our goal now is reaching Orsinium, then we can check to see who our friends are.
- {We need to be cautious of all our allies right now}
- {What do you think of luther?}
- On a nobler quest than most in this land, trying to make peace, through words. Either he's got a plan that's beyond my reasoning, or he's dumber than a newblood of the quarries.
- Yet even if he fails, could it get any worse for us? His presence is nothing but a benefit, if ya ask me.
- {Do you think he will succeed?}
- Since the sacking of first Orsinium, there have always been Orcs who begged our enemies for mercy. Our current state should tell ya how well that worked out.
- Be hopeful, but realistic. Just one more betrayal separates Orsinium from being razed, and us from extinction.
- He's on a noble quest, coming from that forgiving heart - more willing to let bygones be bygones than to simmer on revenge. But he's soft, and foolish to think the breton's are ever gonna break bread.
- Seen it too many times; Orc begging for mercy, feels secure, stabbed in the back. That's why we gotta have our war face on whenever we meet a breton. So they know we aint to be tricked again.
- So don't get your hopes up, I know I sure aint.
- Don't wanna get my hopes up again.
- {Don't be too cynical, he may be the start of something great. May inspire more orcs to follow}
- I told ya, I'll pray for the man, but I'll never drop my guard. Even if the god's descend and bring peace between the races, there'd still be a blade at my side.
- Know full well by now that no one's word, not even that of Malacath, can guarantee our survival.
- I truly wanna believe that he can change things - cos If I'm wrong and you're right, my ego is bruised but we live. But If I'm right? Then our extinction will be all that more cruel.
- {It's the best way to find peace}
- Peace. Grown to hate that word. Whenever the manmer utter peace, it's peace for them. For us, that word means death or slavery.
- If ever peace meant something that made the bretons on equal footing to orcs, then you'd hear all of 'em call for war.
- In their eyes, it is us who aggress, so it us who must abandon our ways. Our culture, our history.. our dignity.
- "Peace" - no pride in that. Let's hope luther has a different meaning for peace, for all our sake.
- Grown to hate that word; peace. What does peace mean to us when we aint got power? Peace means compromise, and we know it aint gonna be the bretons who give up anything. Why would they? They aint gonna lose anything if they come for us?
- This peace will demand us to abandon our culture, our history and our dignity. Absorbed into the breton empire as another conquered race, grovelling for approval.
- "Peace" - aint no pride in that peace. Makes me shiver.
- {Got something on your mind?}
- Noticed huh? Well we're at that Arnima place right? Was thinking that those bretons brought some of our boys here.
- Death and destruction all around us, nah friend, nothin' on the mind..
- Jokes aside, we're at this Arnima place, got a bad rep for both manmer and orc alike. Those who were captured and chained were brought here.
- {Thought the bretons killed us on sight. Why would they waste time keepin' us alive?}
- The pigs like to play with their prey, aint no pleasure in a quick kill for 'em. An' this town right here has men who like to draw out our torture.
- Now, that's only for the Orcs who made bigger trouble than usual. You know, Orcs of value..
- One such brother who had value was that Luther.
- These manpigs are twisted, every orc knows that. You should too - seein' that you went to that quarry and dealt with the worst of 'em.
- They like to play with their catch before they kill it, or sometimes they like to hold one of ours hostage, 'specially if he's got some value.
- And one Orc of value was that Luther, so you get where I'm going?
- {You think they got Luther locked up in their dungeons?}
- Not gettin' my hopes up, but the guilt would be too great had he been there, waiting for someone to break 'im out. That's a hell I've known myself.
- This is the only chance we got to get into this town, may be the only chance to free our kin in there.
- Ya down for another sewer dive?
- Probably not, but I'd be kickin' myself later if I learned that he was. An' trust me, we shouldn't hope that the bretons had a change of heart and let him go.
- If we wanna see change, then we gotta be that change; Luther told me that. So what do ya say, should we dive in to see if he's there?
- {What makes you think they took him here instead of Evermore?}
- That burning warzone we left, Evermore, made a big effort to scrub the blood off their streets. Had to give a good impression. So they make others get dirty in their stead.
- An this dump right here happily took on their burden. Many a Orc has were seen entering, none ever leaving.
- Until us.
- They send all the Orcs here, got the worst strain of evil on this side of the kingdom. They know how to get people to talk.
- Seen too many of our kin come here, never to be seen again - and the ones we do see are in pieces, decorating their walls.
- {Sure, not like we're in a hurry or anything.}
- Ya know, it's funny. With all this chaos you'd think we'd be pressed for time. But this moment has given us a freedom we never had during "peace".
- Would be a shame to waste that freedom, lets make the most of it by breaking our boys out.
- Keep low, don't want them doing anything hasty with luther.
- Hah, still the jester, even in a time like this.
- Right, keep low and don't draw attention. We can't let them see us coming else they may do something to our man.
- Looks like this is it friend. You plannin' to join us on the way home?
- There it is, Evermore's end. They don't have any power beyond here, good place to rest before we march home.
- Say, you plannin' to join us?
- {'Course, but my destination is Skyrim. Maybe I can convince the Orcs there to join us in our defense.}
- Yeah, smart, real smart, though you always were weren't ya.
- Always one step ahead, now if the firstborn shared your mind then he'd still be alive.
- Listen, you've been good to us. Nah, good for us. Doubt we would have made it this far without your help.
- Even through it all, you stuck it out and stayed true.
- Listen, you been good to us. Even through all the misery and blood, you still stuck it out.
- {Gettin' emotional on me boy}
- One of our elders used to say "There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen".
- These last few weeks were certainly that, a kingdom that stood out above all overs in its cruelty, reduced to rubble.
- Bloodlines wiped out, prophecies of home restored.
- So yeah, I'm emotional, how can ya not be? When i get back to Orsinium, I'll tell all of 'em of your struggle, of your victory.
- {It was our victory, we all earned it}
- Ever the humble orc, without the pride that dooms so many of us.
- How can I not? After all that's happened. Look, just wanted to say that you aint gonna be forgotten. I'm gonna tell everyone in Orsinium about what you've done.
- {Maybe you can join me on my journeys?}
- Ya know I'm itchin for new adventure, to see more of the world beyond this cursed land.
- But Orsinium calls upon every Orc in its defense, these coming months will test us like none before, I know it.
- I will die with kin by my side, not to fade alone in the darkness of the world. Sorry, friend.
- Agh, I can't. Every muscle in my body wants me to join ya but i gotta help these boys get home. 'Cause if Orsinium falls, I want to be there with my brothers, and sisters.
- {I understand, keep strong bloodkin. }
- You too friend. May Malacath bless your every battle from here on.
- There's no other way. May your adventures bring you glory, and have the world know the Orcs aren't done yet.
- Hey look, thanks for the help. Aint common that a non-orc risks his neck for us "grocks".
- Damn, got us over that bridge without a hitch. Aint common that unkin risk their neck for our kind. You have my thanks.
- {We've seen enough carnage for today.}
- Ha! Aint that the truth. Seen enough blood for fifty lifetimes. An' it wasn't us who spilled it...
- I know what the world thinks of my kind, bred to rape, raze and kill. But hear me, we are tired. Very tired.
- Some of us wanted it sure, but they were soon to meet their end. We as whole wanted out, a damn end to all of this.
- We just have one demand, Orsinium; home.
- Most of my kin want an end to all of this.
- You're right, and that's coming from an Orc. I know what everyone else thinks of us - savages bred to rape and kill.
- But we all wanted out, we want out of this whole thing. Centuries of blood and tears have humbled a lot of my kin.
- Most just wanna be left alone now.
- {Most...}
- I hear ya, always some who want to start a war for nothing. Always the few who lead everyone else to slaughter, aint it?
- Yeah, I get ya. The few bring low the many, that's one thing breton and orcs hold in common.
- Those who love slaughter should be found in the deepest pit, to tear at each other and have the rest of us never suffer their evil.
- {Let's hope, by today ,that we've rid of ourselves of those "few".}
- You and I know that they'll always be. An' our fight against the beasts is forever.
- For we who seek peace will exist alongside them. Always until the end.
- By our hands or their own. But there'll always be more, always be those who go beyond everyone else to get what they want.
- {Then it should be up to everyone else to want something that betters us all.}
- A goal that wont come easy, means so dark for that dream. In time, people will live in the world our struggle built.
- Almost a crime to believe that tomorrow could be better, but it is in that faith that our strength is tested.
- {Well put}
- Ya know, if it weren't for all this. I think I'd have been a poet. Ha!
- In the meantime -and I mean this in the best way I can muster - may we never cross paths again.
- [Scene where Anka-Ur tries to get player to mediate a truce]
- Relax Breton, come to bring ya a truce.
- Calm yourself, Breton. I've come to make a deal.
- Don't doubt us, Breton. We've still got many ways to bring ya ruin.
- Already proved that 30 years back, now we got shamans who know that same curse, and they aint aiming at no fort.
- Nah, they're lookin at this here bridge.
- An out, with the only path being over this bridge. Grant us that, an we'll be outa your hair. No curse, no blood.
- We know you manmer like to go back on your word, so we need one of yours to come with us.
- Nah, breton, that's where you're wrong. Things can go south real quick if ya thinkin' of playin' tricks.
- 'Member 30 years back, shamans and their curse right? Got the same thing happenin' again. Aimed at this very bridge.
- An out, and the only way we can get out is through your bridge. Now you see where I'm getting' at?
- We can call off the shamans if you allow us passage, no one gets harmed. I just need one of you's to come with me so my boys know you're not playin'
- We offer an end to this without further blood, you would be mad to reject this. Think clearly, breton.
- Good, now keep close so the others know you're with me.
- Keep calm and we'll have this over with in no time.
- Is it really somethin' you wanna risk finding out? Most of my kin are sick of the fightin', one's who aint are a lost cause.
- Get one of yours, with a good tongue, to come to mine and get our boss to see reason. Then we can all part ways and stop the bloodshed.
- Good, jus' follow me to where we're holed up. Try me best to make it go smoothly.
- [Scene where Anka gathers up remaining Orcs and tells them to follow you out of reach]
- Clear your ears boys and gather round.
- The firstborn is dead. Now listen up!
- You know how this goes, a new chief now leads. Winning that right through blood.
- Malacath curse any who dares object to this law, now heed to your chief.
- Their reign will save us from this slaughter, and that will only come from us reaching Orsinium.
- If you want to see home, to see a future, march with us! Orsinium calls on every Orc in its defence!
- With Malacath's might, with our spirit, with our blood. We will fight on!
- We got a new chief, and chief wants us all to get out of this slaughter now.
- You know the Orc way, no objections. The rite of ascent through blood is law, any who dare say different goes against malacath.
- Now follow us if you wanna see home again, we've bled enough here. Aint no more dead orcs today, we're gonna live.
- [Anka sees orc shaman survive raided outpost]
- Arami! You made it outa there!
- 'Course we gotta fight for the cause. Aint nothin' else to fight for - glory to Malacath that you still live, we wouldn't survive long without you.
- They fled? How many went?
- Course he ran, we always knew he would when the fires came to him.
- ...Alright, let's get outa here, fast like. Take the lead newblood.
- ----------------------------------
- [NPC Idle]
- Too much standin' around.
- Wonder what the bretons are plannin... whatever it is, we're ready..
- Jus' the calm before the storm..
- O' Malacath, hear me.. Grant me strength in the battles to come..
- [NPC GOODBYE]
- Keep strong out there
- Till next time.
- Yeah, enough talk.
- [NPC HELLO]
- Hail, newblood.
- What ya thinking?
- Want something?
- Not a good time to talk friend.
- We better get going.
- [NPC TAUNT AGGRESSIVE]
- You messed with the wrong one!
- In my sights.
- Take 'em down!
- It's us or them.
- We got bretons!
- Not takin' me alive!
- Go down swingin'!
- [NPC SEES ENEMY]
- Over there!
- Blades up!
- Bretons!
- [NPC DIES]
- Not like this..
- Fight on...
- [NPC ATTACKS ENEMY]
- Weak, weak, WEAK!
- It's over!
- That all?
- Ha!
- Aghhh!
- Stay down!
- Weak!
- [NPC IS ATTACKED]
- Away!
- Fool!
- Ah!
- Eughh!
- [NPC BLOCKS ATTACK]
- Pathetic.
- Not enough!
- ----------------------------
- [Plans for further dialogue]
- {Why anka came to the camp, he says he was running for too long and wanted to find a little safety and community before he died. He may as well die with his kin than in some random gutter.}
- {Ask about anka's family, he says he had a tribe when he was very young but had to run since. Being caputured and sent to a quarry}
- {Ask anka why thalmor were at umbasir talking to orcs, anka doesn't know nature of thalmor so you can explain it to him}
- {Anka's thoughts on luther and his attempts at peace, he says he doesn't think luther can change anything but holds out hope that he does. That luther is still valuable as proof that Orcs can be educated and not "savage", then you say "why do we need to obey the standards of those who enslave and kill us?", he says its the only way to find peace}
