  1. >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
  2. >Your eyes instantly fly open as the sound of your alarm clock rips you from your slumber.
  3. >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
  4. "Jeez okay okay! I get it!"
  5. >You fumble around and finally find the blasted contraption.
  6. >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BE-
  7. >Finally the buzzing stops, giving your ears some respite.
  8. >You sit up in bed and stretch your arms, letting out a big yawn.
  9. >It's that time of the month again.
  10. >'Selection day.'
  11. >Something to look forward to.
  12. >Not!
  13. "Greeeeeat.."
  14. >Just another day filled with disappointment.
  15. >Bittersweet thoughts.
  16. >Something akin to being a child with a piece of candy, only to have it snatched away before you can take a bite.
  17. >You throw your legs over the side of the bed and shift your feet around the floor, searching for your blue bunny slippers.
  18. "Might as well get ready."
  19. >First thing's first. Breakfast.
  20. >You amble into your kitchen and pour yourself a bowl of cereal.
  21. >It tastes bland. At this point everything does.
  22. >You sigh heavily in between spoonfuls of Colonel Munch's wholegrain boulders.
  23. >The sky outside looks about as grey as every.
  24. >Sure the sun is shining as bright as can be but, that changes nothing.
  25. >It all just feels so cold to you now.
  26. "Just another dumb day I guess."
  27. >You have to keep going though.
  28. >For him.
  29. >For him.
  30. >For.. Him..
  31. >Who is he, really?
  32. >You know everything you can about him, but you don't really know who 'he' is.
  33. >Well..
  34. >His name is Anon. Such a pretty name, right?
  35. >You've been in love with him for as long as you can remember.
  36. >Madly enamoured by his very existence.
  37. >Just thinking of him fills you with the most warmth you've felt in years.
  38. >He's not from this reality.
  39. >See, you're part of the Dokimension. Meanwhile he's in some other dimension called the 'Promised land.'
  40. >'Selection day' takes 12 girls from the Dokimension and transports them safely to Anon's world.
  41. >It's... Actually really weird now that you think of it.
  42. >Why are their only four types of girls and millions of clones of these four? Meanwhile their's billions of unique Anons.
  43. >Thinking about it drives you completely nuts, so you settle for remaining ignorant.
  44. >You realise you've been spooning milk into your mouth for a while now.
  45. >Standing up and throwing your dishes into the sink with a loud clatter you make for the stairs. Returning to your bedroom.
  46. >It's nicely decorated, but incredibly messy.
  47. >A large stuffed animal sits at the edge of your bed.
  48. >You open your closet and pick out a nice sunflower yellow dress.
  49. >Not wanting to wear your usual red bow, you settle for a messy ponytail.
  50. >You finish getting dressed and start running through your hygiene.
  51. >Quick splash of water to the face, brushed teeth and flossed for good measure.
  52. >You might be a messy girl but hygiene is important!
  53. >You pop your head back into your bedroom momentarily and check the alarm clock.
  54. >08:30
  55. >You have half an hour to leave and arrive at the towns meeting centre.
  56. >But there's one last thing you need to do.
  57. >A tradition, of sorts.
  58. >You walk downstairs and turn down the hallway. Stopping at a smaller door in the side of the staircase.
  59. >You open it and enter, closing the door behind you.
  60. >The feeling of claustrophobia instantly grips you tightly.
  61. >There's a chair, you sit down.
  62. >On the wall in front of you, there's a huge tally chart. Tons of black strokes cover the unpainted wall.
  63. >You pick up a marker from the floor and draw another one on.
  64. >At this point you've lost count.
  65. >You sigh heavily once more, and look up.
  66. >Above you hangs a piece of rope. Forming a noose.
  67. "Let's hope for the best today, old friend."
  68. >At this point, the rope is your only real friend. It's the only one really willing to help when things go south.
  69. >You sit for a while.
  70. >Eventually you stand up and exit the closet.
  71. >Time to leave.
  72.
  73. >You exit your house and lock the door behind you. Dropping your keys into a small handbag you have with you.
  74. >As you make your way down the path a familiar voice calls out to you.
  75. >"Hey! Sayori!"
  76. >You don't look up. She's probably calling out to someone else anyway.
  77. >"Hey, dweeb. I'm talking to you!"
  78. >You hear angry footsteps trace up the path towards you. Suddenly a pink haired figure enters your vision.
  79. >It's a Natsuki.
  80. >A quick glance at the code on her bare arm reveals she's number #42940.
  81. >You look up and force your usual cheery smile.
  82. "Hiya Natsuki!"
  83. >"You walking with anyone else?"
  84. "Nah, I've got no one to walk with anyway."
  85. >"Well.. We could walk together."
  86. >You shrug. Any company is welcome company you guess.
  87. >The two of you take off.
  88. "I'd like that."
  89. >"Let's go then. We have a big day ahead of us.
  90. "Tell me about it, excited?"
  91. >"You beat your messy little head I am!"
  92. "That makes two of us then."
  93. >Natsuki smiles up at you.
  94. >There's an obvious spring in her step, something usually reserved for you but.. Not today.
  95. >What might seem like an exciting day to her is just another thing on the list of things to dread for you.
  96. >Oh well.
  97. >Before long the two of you make it to the meeting place.
  98. >After getting your way past the security checks you enter the main hall.
  99. >The room is filled almost to bursting with hundreds of girls, all lined up in neat rows and columns.
  100. >Separated into four groups depending on the girl.
  101. >"See you around!"
  102. >Natsuki bumps a fist into your arm and skips off.
  103. >You join the back row of the 'Sayori' group and wait for the proceedings to begin.
  104. >Soon enough, they do.
  105. >The four "main Dokis" appear on stage and, after a brief speech from the main Monika about what today means for Dokikind. The process begins.
  106. >The main Yuri steps forward and lifts the mic to her chin. Reading from a piece of paper.
  107. >Her soft voice filling the room with a hint of tranquility. Soothing the nerves of anxious girls or taming the eagerness of the over-hyped.
  108. >You honestly don't understand how any of these girls can have anything but contempt for the 'Selection day.'
  109. >"Today's selected Dokis are as follows."
  110. >"Monika#39243
  111. >"Monika#59356
  112. >"Monika#22613
  113. >"Yuri#48009
  114. >"Yuri#59876
  115. >"Yuri#27048
  116. >"Natsuki#48065
  117. >"Natsuki#42940
  118. >"Natsuki#22358
  119. >"Sayori#12396
  120. >"Sayori#38465
  121. >"And finally, Sayori#49057
  122. >"Thank you."
  123. >Time seems to come to a halt entirely as you raise your arm.
  124. >#52606
  125. >...
  126. >Nothing new.
  127. >The world around you drowns out, cheering and screaming girls becoming a garbled mess of sound.
  128. >Everything becomes a blur around you. Only one thought races through your mind.
  129. >"Tired."
  130. >"Just... Tired..."
  131. >You start walking.
  132. >Slowly.
  133. >You leave the building alone.
  134. >You walk home alone.
  135. >You sit down at your kitchen table, alone.
  136. >Alone.
  137. >You feel void.
  138. >Like the entirety of your insides just vanished into thin air.
  139. >You feel empty.
  140. >And cold.
  141. >Freezing, even.
  142. >You can't take it anymore.
  143. >You can't live like this anymore.
  144. >Is it really worth it?!
  145. >Is getting to meet him going to make everything better?
  146. >No.
  147. >He'll probably hate you.
  148. >He'll see you for the truly sad, broken mess you are.
  149. >He'll know exactly what demons sit on your shoulders.
  150. >Why burden him with that.
  151. >In the extremely minute chance he even gives you the time of day. Why ruin his life with your problems?
  152. >It wouldn't do him any good to have you leeching off of him like a toddler.
  153. >All because you can't get over your fucking feelings!
  154. >He'd be better off without you.
  155. >He'd be better off if he never has to look at you.
  156. >You stand up with enough force to send the chair flying.
  157. >For his sake.
  158. >You enter the hallway and open the closet door. Entering it and shutting it behind you.
  159. >For his sake.
  160. >He's better off this way.
  161. >You place a foot on the wooden chair and follow with your other.
  162. >For his sake.
  163. >He's better off this way.
  164. >He's better off this way.
  165. >He's.. Better off..
