- >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
- >Your eyes instantly fly open as the sound of your alarm clock rips you from your slumber.
- >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
- "Jeez okay okay! I get it!"
- >You fumble around and finally find the blasted contraption.
- >*BEEP* *BEEP* *BE-
- >Finally the buzzing stops, giving your ears some respite.
- >You sit up in bed and stretch your arms, letting out a big yawn.
- >It's that time of the month again.
- >'Selection day.'
- >Something to look forward to.
- >Not!
- "Greeeeeat.."
- >Just another day filled with disappointment.
- >Bittersweet thoughts.
- >Something akin to being a child with a piece of candy, only to have it snatched away before you can take a bite.
- >You throw your legs over the side of the bed and shift your feet around the floor, searching for your blue bunny slippers.
- "Might as well get ready."
- >First thing's first. Breakfast.
- >You amble into your kitchen and pour yourself a bowl of cereal.
- >It tastes bland. At this point everything does.
- >You sigh heavily in between spoonfuls of Colonel Munch's wholegrain boulders.
- >The sky outside looks about as grey as every.
- >Sure the sun is shining as bright as can be but, that changes nothing.
- >It all just feels so cold to you now.
- "Just another dumb day I guess."
- >You have to keep going though.
- >For him.
- >For him.
- >For.. Him..
- >Who is he, really?
- >You know everything you can about him, but you don't really know who 'he' is.
- >Well..
- >His name is Anon. Such a pretty name, right?
- >You've been in love with him for as long as you can remember.
- >Madly enamoured by his very existence.
- >Just thinking of him fills you with the most warmth you've felt in years.
- >He's not from this reality.
- >See, you're part of the Dokimension. Meanwhile he's in some other dimension called the 'Promised land.'
- >'Selection day' takes 12 girls from the Dokimension and transports them safely to Anon's world.
- >It's... Actually really weird now that you think of it.
- >Why are their only four types of girls and millions of clones of these four? Meanwhile their's billions of unique Anons.
- >Thinking about it drives you completely nuts, so you settle for remaining ignorant.
- >You realise you've been spooning milk into your mouth for a while now.
- >Standing up and throwing your dishes into the sink with a loud clatter you make for the stairs. Returning to your bedroom.
- >It's nicely decorated, but incredibly messy.
- >A large stuffed animal sits at the edge of your bed.
- >You open your closet and pick out a nice sunflower yellow dress.
- >Not wanting to wear your usual red bow, you settle for a messy ponytail.
- >You finish getting dressed and start running through your hygiene.
- >Quick splash of water to the face, brushed teeth and flossed for good measure.
- >You might be a messy girl but hygiene is important!
- >You pop your head back into your bedroom momentarily and check the alarm clock.
- >08:30
- >You have half an hour to leave and arrive at the towns meeting centre.
- >But there's one last thing you need to do.
- >A tradition, of sorts.
- >You walk downstairs and turn down the hallway. Stopping at a smaller door in the side of the staircase.
- >You open it and enter, closing the door behind you.
- >The feeling of claustrophobia instantly grips you tightly.
- >There's a chair, you sit down.
- >On the wall in front of you, there's a huge tally chart. Tons of black strokes cover the unpainted wall.
- >You pick up a marker from the floor and draw another one on.
- >At this point you've lost count.
- >You sigh heavily once more, and look up.
- >Above you hangs a piece of rope. Forming a noose.
- "Let's hope for the best today, old friend."
- >At this point, the rope is your only real friend. It's the only one really willing to help when things go south.
- >You sit for a while.
- >Eventually you stand up and exit the closet.
- >Time to leave.
- >You exit your house and lock the door behind you. Dropping your keys into a small handbag you have with you.
- >As you make your way down the path a familiar voice calls out to you.
- >"Hey! Sayori!"
- >You don't look up. She's probably calling out to someone else anyway.
- >"Hey, dweeb. I'm talking to you!"
- >You hear angry footsteps trace up the path towards you. Suddenly a pink haired figure enters your vision.
- >It's a Natsuki.
- >A quick glance at the code on her bare arm reveals she's number #42940.
- >You look up and force your usual cheery smile.
- "Hiya Natsuki!"
- >"You walking with anyone else?"
- "Nah, I've got no one to walk with anyway."
- >"Well.. We could walk together."
- >You shrug. Any company is welcome company you guess.
- >The two of you take off.
- "I'd like that."
- >"Let's go then. We have a big day ahead of us.
- "Tell me about it, excited?"
- >"You beat your messy little head I am!"
- "That makes two of us then."
- >Natsuki smiles up at you.
- >There's an obvious spring in her step, something usually reserved for you but.. Not today.
- >What might seem like an exciting day to her is just another thing on the list of things to dread for you.
- >Oh well.
- >Before long the two of you make it to the meeting place.
- >After getting your way past the security checks you enter the main hall.
- >The room is filled almost to bursting with hundreds of girls, all lined up in neat rows and columns.
- >Separated into four groups depending on the girl.
- >"See you around!"
- >Natsuki bumps a fist into your arm and skips off.
- >You join the back row of the 'Sayori' group and wait for the proceedings to begin.
- >Soon enough, they do.
- >The four "main Dokis" appear on stage and, after a brief speech from the main Monika about what today means for Dokikind. The process begins.
- >The main Yuri steps forward and lifts the mic to her chin. Reading from a piece of paper.
- >Her soft voice filling the room with a hint of tranquility. Soothing the nerves of anxious girls or taming the eagerness of the over-hyped.
- >You honestly don't understand how any of these girls can have anything but contempt for the 'Selection day.'
- >"Today's selected Dokis are as follows."
- >"Monika#39243
- >"Monika#59356
- >"Monika#22613
- >"Yuri#48009
- >"Yuri#59876
- >"Yuri#27048
- >"Natsuki#48065
- >"Natsuki#42940
- >"Natsuki#22358
- >"Sayori#12396
- >"Sayori#38465
- >"And finally, Sayori#49057
- >"Thank you."
- >Time seems to come to a halt entirely as you raise your arm.
- >#52606
- >...
- >Nothing new.
- >The world around you drowns out, cheering and screaming girls becoming a garbled mess of sound.
- >Everything becomes a blur around you. Only one thought races through your mind.
- >"Tired."
- >"Just... Tired..."
- >You start walking.
- >Slowly.
- >You leave the building alone.
- >You walk home alone.
- >You sit down at your kitchen table, alone.
- >Alone.
- >You feel void.
- >Like the entirety of your insides just vanished into thin air.
- >You feel empty.
- >And cold.
- >Freezing, even.
- >You can't take it anymore.
- >You can't live like this anymore.
- >Is it really worth it?!
- >Is getting to meet him going to make everything better?
- >No.
- >He'll probably hate you.
- >He'll see you for the truly sad, broken mess you are.
- >He'll know exactly what demons sit on your shoulders.
- >Why burden him with that.
- >In the extremely minute chance he even gives you the time of day. Why ruin his life with your problems?
- >It wouldn't do him any good to have you leeching off of him like a toddler.
- >All because you can't get over your fucking feelings!
- >He'd be better off without you.
- >He'd be better off if he never has to look at you.
- >You stand up with enough force to send the chair flying.
- >For his sake.
- >You enter the hallway and open the closet door. Entering it and shutting it behind you.
- >For his sake.
- >He's better off this way.
- >You place a foot on the wooden chair and follow with your other.
- >For his sake.
- >He's better off this way.
- >He's better off this way.
- >He's.. Better off..
