Team GB Motion

# Motion to address NI representation in the Tokyo Olympics

**This assembly recognises —**

* that 21 athletes from Northern Irish represented Ireland at the last Summer Olympics, in contrast to only 8 representing "Team GB";
* that the collective name used by the British Olympic Association for its contestants, "Team GB", is exclusionary and alienating to the people of Northern Ireland;
* that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are due to start in less than 6 months.

**Therefore this assembly resolves to —**

* petition the British Olympic Association to change the name "Team GB" to one which represents all people living in the UK;
* advise against naming future national initiatives which represent all of the United Kingdom with the term "Great Britain".
