  1. The actual commands for Monopoly are simple; you just use directions (Up/Down/Left/Right / U/D/L/R) and the face buttons (A/B), as well as having control over Select and Start.
  2.
  3. You have holds and lifts for the directions (for cash-amount picking when trading; see below).
  4.
  5. You also have timed Wait commands up to 2 seconds (also for cash-amount picking when trading; see below).
  6.
  7. The more difficult thing is actually explaining how NES Monopoly works.
  8.
  9. ROLLING THE DICE
  10. * When it's your turn, just press A to roll the dice. (You can also open the Menu; see below.)
  11.
  12. BUYING/SELLING UNOWNED PROPERTIES YOU LAND ON
  13. * When you land on an unoccupied space, you can press A to buy it if you have enough money, or B to send it to auction (official rules state that if the person who lands on it doesn't want it, it MUST be auctioned to someone who WILL buy it).
  14.
  15. MENU
  16. * You can use Select to open the menu anytime it's your turn (whether you're about to roll the dice, or whether you've just landed on a space, before ending your turn). This is how you do things such as offer trades to the AI, or purchase houses. More on how to actually use the menu in a bit.
  17.
  18. BIDDING IN AUCTIONS
  19. * During an auction, you must be fast and pay attention if you want the item up for bid, but bidding is a bit overly-complex - after all AIs that want to bid have done so, you get a chance to scroll to yourself and press A. If you want a property, I recommend repeatedly using the unique Bid command to make attempts - the "Bid" command presses Up then A in a single attempt to pick yourself. You may need to do it several times to successfully scroll up to yourself. I cannot make this any easier, as the cursor wraps around!
  20.
  21. HOW TO OFFER TRADES TO THE AI
  22. * Use the Menu (press Select) and choose to offer a trade; pick your partner, then go to THEIR side to tell them what you want from them, and use YOUR side to tell them what you'll give them in exchange. Once you do this, tick the "Yes" box to see if they'll take it, or if they change the terms of the deal. If they change it, you get another opportunity to alter things yourself, or turn them down.
  23. * For picking properties: Right to go clockwise around the board (forward), left to go counterclockwise (backward). Confirm with A.
  24. * For stating a cash amount: Confirm you want to involve cash, then hold Right until you see the amount you want. Confirm with A.
  25. * It is important to note that the AI *WAY* overvalues monopolies. A popular tactic in speedruns (that can of course backfire easily in some situations) is to offer an AI a monopoly-causing property for ALL their cash, so they can't build on it right away, and will run into big trouble if they soon land somewhere they owe rent. It's a risky move, and obviously not always recommended.
  26. * It is also important to note that each AI partner has their own playstyle and budget allocation per trade (yes, even in the NES game), so you won't get every AI to take the same deal. They will NEVER give you more than a certain amount of cash per trade, even if they've got more.
  27.
  28. THINGS TO NOTE
  29. * In NES Monopoly, you cannot sell a Get Out Of Jail Free Card. Yes I know the official IRL game allows you to; it's not coded into this game.
  30. * There are no allowances for house rules in the NES game. So you get nothing for landing on Free Parking, ever.
