  1. The world of Esper, Prelude
  2.
  3.
  4. Under Emperor Caladrel the first, times are tough in Almura, yet the hardy people who reside there scrape by. Tensions have been brewing between Almura and it’s neighboring country Ryark. As war became a very real possibility between Almura and Ryark, the Emperor has dictated that any and all babies that are born with magical talent are to be registered under his mage laws.
  5.
  6. Since then Wizards and other assorted arcane users all around the country have been put through extensive questioning, seemingly faulty arrests, and mandatory drafts for the Arcane force the Emperor is building for the war he is certain will come. Many have been forced to go into hiding to avoid being drafted and the slums around the country have become places of refuge for the fleeing mages.
  7.
  8. Some people in Almura are accusing the Emperor of going mad, while others congratulate him on finally doing something about the rogue magic users. Of course a few groups have sprouted up here and there to attempt to rebel against these laws and his new policies but were quickly put down by the Emperor’s loyal army.
  9.
  10. So now the country teeters on the edge of war while civil disobedience raises to the point were some may call it a revolution, those loyal to the Emperor would call it a simple rebellion to be squashed, skirmishes between Imperial troops and revolutionaries have been growing in numbers exponentially, and this is were you are born. Born into a country torn by civil war, and total annihilation under the boot of Ryark.
  11.
  12. Assume that the technology for this setting is leaning towards that Steampunk class. Trains are a common means of transportation around the country, whilst flintlocks and muskets are a means of fighting for those that can afford to arm themselves with such. Magic is often used to create other forms of magitech such as automobiles or airships but only for the incredibly rich or powerful.

  14.
  15.
  16. Name: Nancy 'Nutz' Tanner. 'Nutz' comes from eccentric, and somewhat erratic behavior. (And occupation, of course)
  17.
  18. Occupation (If Any): Well-known engineer that works on clockwork bots, appliances, and anything mechanical.
  19.
  20. Economic Status (Poor, Rich, Etc Etc): High-paid. Crock can surprise me whether her business is small-time or not.
  21.
  22. Age: 25
  23.
  24. Appearance: With a very petite build, Nancy stands at only 5'4 in height with gangly arms and legs. Her face has sharply defined features, with deep-set, green eyes, and freckles dusting the center of her countenance. Her dirty blonde hair reaches to just her lower jawline, with the bangs swept aside to frame her visage.
  25.
  26. Her left arm is replaced with a metallic counterpart that she built herself!
  27.
  28. Personality: Being born with a few bolts loose, Nancy is known for her eccentric personality that tends to make others look at her funny. She's somewhat bold-faced and tends to rush head-on into things, which makes her engineering work somewhat risky due to the fact she's too stubborn to do things in ways that she wasn't taught. Her hyperactive behavior(and magical gift!) thankfully served to be the heart of her engineering company, earning her the profit she needed to live a happy life.
  29.
  30. Talents: Engineering, Bargaining, Shooting.
  31.
  32. Any talents in the Arcane Arts: Technomancy/Golemancy. Nancy is capable of summoning golems from any nearby materials. (4 small, child sized, two medium sized, or one large, ogre sized?). She's also capable of controlling pieces of technology through magical influence.
  33.
  34. Also she has a clockwork goliath she specifically built, capable of being summoned thanks to a rune she's engraved on both her metallic arm and goliath itself. Corki and Gabe should discuss what the goliath does.
  35.
  36. Short background: Nancy was born in the country, and lived a relatively quiet life with her redneck parents and two brothers. She was one of the few Tanner family members who was born with an odd, magical ability capable of manipulating any and all technology. Needless to say she grew an interest in being an engineer at a pretty young age, and so moved to the city as soon as she hit 18 to begin her work! She began to grow popular with the people, which lead to her living in a higher class area. Still, she sends her cash monayz to anyone who needs it, such as her family back home or something along those lines.
  37.
  38. Her losing her arm was the result of an engineering accident, which caused her to turn around and eventually create its powerful prosthetic counterpart within the first six days of being armless.
