The two knights fought so long with one another that it annoyed the knight that the king should last that long against him; his shame was great since he saw that the king was so young. And so, full of anger, he lunged forward and struck the king on the front of his helmet with such force that he shattered it and delved so deeply with his sword that he wounded him on the face. When the king saw the blood flowing beneath his ventail, he was stirred to great anger. The wrath he felt doubled his strength; for truly by anger strength is increased in men of worth, but it produces cowardice and base action in unworthy men. Full of fierce boldness, he ran up to the knight and dealt him such a mighty blow, between his helmet and shield, that he cut off his right arm and caused it to drop to the ground as it still clutched the shield.
