Reasoning: *Once a regular human being living a regular life as a monk, he meditated, practiced ancient martial arts and even studied with the Head Guru himself. Goro was a fairly grown man, twenty six years old so he was probably amongst the oldest as well as the most experienced warrior on the mission. His wisdom was vast and he was a man who cared more about training his body and disciplining himself with meditation than the material things of the world, but he wasn't a man without flaw. He was a bit of a drunk and was in a constant battle with depression which was led to him drinking in the first place. Thus causing some issues with his life as a monk, the Head Guru had wanted him to become one of his personal guard as he was their strongest Monk but to do that he must attain a power that only can achieved through true Zen.

*Spirit Power was what they called, something that to be achieved must require the said user to have a complete control of their emotions, feelings of Anguish, feelings of anger, feelings of love all together were fuel for said power. He must truly become a being of enlightenment, with an unbreakable mental. For it is with emotion that spirit power grows. It is then that the Elder Guru explains to him that he must quit drinking to evade the pain of a traumatic past and accept said emotions, because it was those emotions that would free this power within him.

*Goro however struggled with doing so. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to face what it is that he was running from and as a result he ran. He ran from his destiny, he ran from the greatest honor and responsibility as a monk. It was years later that the Phantasia phenom happened causing him to head back to the temple in a hurry but when he arrived? It was a too late, a fully grown Phantasia monster had already slaughtered them all and guilt overcame him. He was to be the Guard of the Elder Guru, the Shield that protects and he couldn't even do that.

*He once again failed to protect those he cared about. It was then in that moment of vulnerability that his power truly awakened, his anger, his sadness and his regret awakened the spiritual power within him just like he was told and he fought long and hard with the Phantasia but it wasn't enough, he lost but he wasn't killed. He was infected and undergone a strange transformation that caused him to be the man he is today. He felt excruciating pain as a tail began to rip from his behind and form, his entire biology evolved making him far far stronger than before and for some strange reason he could feel himself getting as he recovered. It was like he became some kind of super human monkey hybrid.

*Ever since, he vowed he'd slay the Phantasia and rid this world of it's infection. He hadn't been able to awaken this power again, at least not until he was face to face with Plon where he felt his emotions once again going haywire and his power increasing drastically because of it. It was then he realized that he needed to awaken this power in a more permanent sense, they were going on an expedition soon and he wanted to be ready so he sought to finish what he started. He meditated for days on end, failing a lot over the time while trying to accept what happened to the monks and what happened to his late daughter. He fell back into the clutches of alchohol escapism many times but eventually he got it, he sobered up and dealt with his regret, his sadness and his anger like a real man. He meditated on his spirit, becoming aware now of the strain he had put on it over the years and it took some time but he was able to mend it by accepting what happened. Accepting that his emotions were not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength as the Elder Guru told him and spirit power was him taking those emotions and making them a weapon to avenge and protect those he cared about.

*Goro is a Chad with a beard. What saiyan you ever seen with a beard? That's right. None. What's colder than that? He's not the average saiyan who just wants to become stronger, he has a purpose, a backstory and drive to vanquish the monsters from this world and help fight back against the infection to prevent anymore situations like the one at his former temple.
