- 06[15:13] * Kat is wandering around town. After the insanity of this morning, she's looking for a good place to take a nap.
- [15:16] <theMarg0r> Probably want to stay away from the docks, then. Turns out that every other dead and rotting thing in the bay suddenly getting up isn't pretty. There's some sort of ruckus near the center of town too, something about a dog and the governor being attacked by a slimy ghost. Those two occurences may or may not be unrelated.
- 06[15:19] * Kat does stay away from those places. Hard to take a nap around rotting corpses or poncy nobles. She heads to a quieter part of town, looking for a good patch of grass in the shade.
- [15:20] <theMarg0r> The fields to the west of town seem to be mostly untouched, and plenty of trees there.
- [15:20] <theMarg0r> The procession of priests and their guards continues south towards the temple regardless of who follows them.
- 06[15:21] * Kat goes out there and sits down, leaning against a tree.
- [15:29] <theMarg0r> Finally, some peace and quiet! The plantation workers are having a day off considering the exceptional circumstances. Also someone needs to clean up the shit at the docks. So not exactly a day off, but a break from the routine.
- 06[15:30] * Kat relaxes, and closes her eyes...
- 06[15:43] * Kat wakes up later, hungry and somewhat sleepy. Guess she'll have to go back to town and get something to eat.
- 06[15:44] * Kat straps her sword back on and goes back into town
- [15:51] <theMarg0r> Things have died down considerably (pun not intended), though there STILL seem to be occasional bragging contests on who had the greatest contribution in beating back the undead menace. You on the other hand can rest easy in the knowledge that you cut it down at the source. You can eat easy in the knowledge as well.
- 06[15:52] * Kat doesn't really care about the prattling of idiots. She finds a place to get some food.
- [15:54] <theMarg0r> As chance would have it, you run into the two Mogogols from the temple. Mogogol Wiser, and... the other one, the tall one from the bank.
- [15:56] <theMarg0r> "Yoo!" says the taller one "Many thanksh for bringing my brothersh back shafely, yesh, if we can do anyshink to repay yoo, just ashks, yesh."
- 06[15:56] * Kat shrugs. "Don't worry about it, I was just there for the fight."
- [15:57] <theMarg0r> "I don't shinkhs we been introduced, my name ish "Mogogol who converted to Pharashma", yesh, and Mogogol Wiser ish my brothersh."
- [15:58] <theMarg0r> "Don't ashks him about hish full name, ish embarrashink. Ish reason why they callsh me "Mogogol Wiser", though, yesh."
- 01[15:59] <Kat> "Alright, I won't."
- 01[16:02] <Kat> "So, where's a good place to eat around here?"
- [16:05] <theMarg0r> "Yoo wantsh food? Yesh! Ish good local food. Relativesh. We takesh yoo." Mogogols are vegetarian, though, but as long as Kat doesn't have a chronic need to devour another living being for sustenance every 24 hours, it's good.
- 01[16:06] <Kat> "Sure, that's fine."
- [16:09] <theMarg0r> The brothers whisper something to each other, then Converted speaks up "Yesh! The prieshtesh wantsh yoo to know, shome of your companionsh wantsh to have their fortunesh told, and yoo are welcomesh to a free reading, if yoo wantsh."
- [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Propheciesh, not fortune tellingsh."
- [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Shame thingsh."
- [16:09] <theMarg0r> "Thish is why I'm Wiser."
- 01[16:10] <Kat> "Hm, might be interesting, even if my master told me that prophecy is the realm of those who believe themselves to have the power to shape destiny."
- 01[16:11] <Kat> "But in, you know, a negative way. Like, if they could actually shape destiny they wouldn't care about prophecies."
- 01[16:14] <Kat> "I'm overexplaining again. Let's get food and then go see the priests."
- [16:17] <theMarg0r> "Pharashma ish the goddess of fatesh. If there'sh any propheciesh yoo should trustsh in, it's thish." says the shorter one.
- [16:17] <theMarg0r> "Yesh, let'sh eat." simply adds his brother.
- 06[16:17] * Kat scoffs internally at the idea of gods being reliable, but follows them.
- [16:22] <theMarg0r> Despite being meat-free, it STILL manages to be pretty filling. And spicy. There seems to be some local competition between Mogogol cuisine and Karkanak food (who DO eat meat, and use less imported ingredients), but who cares.
- 01[16:23] <Kat> Not Kat, that's for sure.
- 01[16:23] <Kat> "That was pretty good. On to the temple now?"
- [16:24] <theMarg0r> "If you wantsh to, yesh. Should be aboutsh ready now."
- 01[16:25] <Kat> "Then let's see what Pharasma has to say with those tight lips of hers."
- [16:27] <theMarg0r> Mogogol Converted seems to tense up but doesn't say anything.
- [16:33] <theMarg0r> A grey blocky two-story building with almost no windows on the ground floor, aside from the ones right to the sides of the entrance, the local temple of Pharasma would be an almost unassuming structure if it weren't for the fact that it completely stands out from everything else built on the island, except for maybe the crypts. Also the fact that the spiral above the door is made of a giant...
- [16:33] <theMarg0r> ...nautilus shell is a nice touch that gives it a little more of that colonial flavor.
- 06[16:34] * Kat nods as they go inside.
- [16:36] <theMarg0r> Past the antechamber, all illumination is given by white magic lights. At the stairs to the second floor, you see Lance standing with his arms crossed. He nods when he sees you come in. "Waitsh here." say the Mogogols. "We'll tell the prieshtesh you came." they go upstairs.
- 06[16:36] * Kat leans agains the wall.
- [16:37] <theMarg0r> Lance eyes you. Either the protocol for guards at attention isn't as strict here, or he just doesn't give a shit.
- 06[16:38] * Kat smirks. "See something you like?"
- [16:42] <theMarg0r> "I was admiring your armor. It's a fine piece of work. Expertly crafted, but no mark of military allegiance or religious affiliation. A bit darker than most, too."
- [16:42] <theMarg0r> "Almost looks like it was made for sneaking around."
- 01[16:43] <Kat> "Sneaking isn't quite right, but the rest is correct. It's made for the warrior who swears alleigance to none but themselves. My master gifted it to me before I departed."
- [16:46] <theMarg0r> The Mogogols come back down. Lance nods again. "Right, up you go. When you get up there, turn around and through the curtain. Don't ask me why the room for public visits isn't on the first floor, or at least facing the stairs, I didn't build it."
- [16:47] <theMarg0r> "At least it has windows."
- 01[16:54] <Kat> “Well, there is that.”
- 06[16:56] * Kat goes up to the visiting room
- [16:59] <theMarg0r> You enter the room, and sure enough, there's the priestess, Millenia Pendleton if you remember correctly. All in black and silver, with a hood on. The windows are ALSO covered with curtains, but they let just enough light through to shine on the table in the middle of the room. Also you're pretty sure that some advanced mirror work had to go into the windows behind those curtains because...
- [16:59] <theMarg0r> ...that's not where the sunlight should be coming from at this time of day. Or magic, but it DOES look like natural sunlight.
- [17:00] <theMarg0r> The room is dead silent except for the slight sound of shuffling cards, because she is in fact shuffling the cards as you are entering.
- [17:00] <theMarg0r> No fancy moves, this isn't a magic show. Just old-fashioned shuffle.
- 06[17:01] * Kat sits down in front of the priestess
- [17:02] <theMarg0r> The seat is made of stone. Everything seems to be made of stone, sometimes with some cloth draped over it.
- [17:04] <theMarg0r> "Welcome." she says, quietly but clearly. "Is there something you wish to ask of fate, or will fate itself choose the paths it reveals to you?"
- 01[17:05] <Kat> “I want to see what fate thinks about me.”
- 02[17:08] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) Quit (Ping timeout)
- 03[17:08] * Jenifer_Teague ([email protected]) has joined #DDPFIC
- [17:11] <theMarg0r> She silently deals nine cards, in a three by three pattern, then turns over the left-most column (from your point of view), all at once. Top to bottom (again, from your point of view) the cards show multicolored will-o-wisps in a swamp, a nomad sitting on the paw of a huge Sphinx in the desert, and criminals with faces of crows around a table, splitting loot.
- 06[17:13] * Kat rests her head on her hands, looking at the cards and the priestess
- [17:15] <theMarg0r> "The crows". She points at the bottom-most card (which is actually farthest away from her), and wow ok, she actually has silver nail polish. Anyway. "You've experienced a tragic, unjust loss in your past. Or perhaps you're the one who's lost." she points at the middle card. "The desert - you've been thrust into a hostile environment where you had no business being, and you would've surely...
- [17:15] <theMarg0r> ...been lost without help, but." she points at the last card, closest to her "The Demon's lantern, as misaligned as it could be, you've received a message, guidance, or instruction from the most unlikeliest of places, but it has been purely for your benefit."
- 06[17:16] * Kat smiles. “So far, so good.”
- [17:18] <theMarg0r> "Now, let's take a look at what fate "thinks" about your present." she flips over the middle row. On the top one, an injured, bandaged figure sitting on a throne, surrounded by faceless, monochrome humanoid shapes tending him. In the middle... a bear on a unicycle? On the bottom card, an eyeless, white-haired hag of unnatural skin color holding an eyeball in her teeth.
- [17:23] <theMarg0r> "The survivor." she takes it from the top this time. "The loss suffered in the past will not be as permanent as once thought. You'll shortly either find yourself, or someone from your past will find you. Perhaps it already happened." She points at the bear. "At the present time, you ARE the Bear - pure, raw strength. Anyone who tries to tame you should watch out." now the bottom card. "The...
- [17:23] <theMarg0r> ...mute hag. Your GREATEST THREAT right now is miscommunication, or buried secrets from the past. Take care, so you don't squander your one chance to find your past, or be found. Do not lash out with your great might against the connection to your past."
- 06[17:26] * Kat nods. “Interesting. Continue.”
- [17:31] <theMarg0r> She flips over the final column. It shows, from the top, a great dragon coiling around an entire world, sticking its claws in it, the planet is bleeding. In the middle, two smiling figures facing each other, one has black hair, a red shirt, and green pants. The other one has an inverted color scheme and is holding a dagger behind its back. On the bottom card, a figure is chained, hanging...
- [17:31] <theMarg0r> ...upside down above a vat of boiling... wax? She takes it from the bottom again, and yeah, it's wax. "The future will take you into a place of suffering, physical, mental, or emotional imprisonment - or perhaps all three - the Waxworks, in perfect alignment. Once there, you will face either indecision on your own part as you will be torn between two options, like the Twins." she fluidly...
- [17:31] <theMarg0r> ...moves on to the middle card and keeps going "or you will come to blows with someone of vastly different opinions themselves. In the end, a literal tyrant - for that is what the card shows, the Tyrant, misaligned - will either be dethroned, revealed for what they are... or both." she finishes with a dramatic pause.
- [17:31] <theMarg0r> She leaves the cards there and lets you process all that.
- 06[17:32] * Kat stares at the cards for a few moments, before standing up and leaving. “That was interesting.”
- [17:33] <theMarg0r> Upon leaving, Lance doesn't physically stop you but addresses you. "Sooooo... how was it?" the Mogogolio brothers are nowhere to be seen.
- 01[17:34] <Kat> “Interesting. The past was fairly accurate, the present was shrouded in mysteries, and the future was vague.”
- [17:36] <theMarg0r> "Hah! That sounds about right."
- 06[17:37] * Kat smiles. “I look forward to testing my might against prophecy though. That’s a foe I haven’t had the chance to slay yet.”
- [17:38] <theMarg0r> "Well, like we say in the old country, good hunting!"
- 06[17:39] * Kat smirks, and leaves.
