File 37: Floor 3's MW area (Part 1)

CONTEXT FOR THIS ADVENTURE
This adventure takes place at a temple on the border of Eastland and Westland, and the player will be going back and forth between these two countries a lot. The countries used to work together and be allies a long time ago. But there's been a drought going on for a while, and both countries' water supplies have run out. Paranoia and rumours are spreading, and each country is accusing the other of hoarding water, worsening the drought.
The countries share a guardian spirit/deity/god, Two-Headed King Rex.
The map layout is basically this:

So to end the drought, the player needs to open all three watergates - opening the North Gate allows water to flow from the Last Oasis, and opening the East Gate and West Gate allows that water to flow to the kingdoms.
But during a recent earthquake, the path from Eastland to East Gate was blocked by a giant boulder, and the path from Westland to West Gate was blocked by a giant ravine/fissure. To progress beyond them, the player needs to go back and forth between the countries to recruit Bom the demolitions expert and Billy the bridge builder.

Also, some NPC's will comment on their hatred for the other nation hoarding water, and that, even if the water were to be restored, it wouldn't solve all of their problems. The nations are on the brink of war, and while the drought ending would pause the conflict, it wouldn't actually bring the two countries together in harmony again. So the goal is to both end the water shortage *AND* bring the two countries back together.

There are two sibling countries in the middle of the vast Gypti continent
[TN: Probably based on the word "Egyptian". Also "sibling countries" could be "brother countries" or "sister countries"... Don't think we really have a word for this in English?]

Their names are "Eastland" to the east, and "Westland" to the west.
If these two countries combined their power, they would at least rival any powerful country [TN: Two points on this: I'm not sure how clear it is with my wording, "at least rival...", but the point the Japanese text is making is "Working together, they are as strong as (if not stronger than) any other country". Could probably word this to get that connotation in the translation]
[Secondly, the Japanese text ends with "...If they were to". As in like, "They would be the strongest... if they were to <combine their powers, which they won't>". English doesn't conjugate the same way, so we can't really just move the "if only" to the end of the sentence like that. Might need to rewrite it to include that connotation, or else remove it entirely?]

This strength is their guardian deity, "Two-Headed King Rex". [TN: This was hell to translate, and is missing the emphasis in the Japanese text that King Rex's power is incredible. Might read clearer with "This strength comes from..." instead of "is". The important notes are that they share a guardian deity, that deity is Two-Headed King Rex, and he is very powerful.]

But lately, even that prosperity seems to be in decline, and there are many rumors... [TN: It's not really explicit here, but I think the implication is that, once we soon see the kings start accusing each other of hoarding water, THOSE are the rumors that are spreading]

The adventurer steps foot onto the guardian temple on the borderlands.

Hrfm... Anyway, there's no water anymore in my country of "Eastland". [TN: These are kings speaking, using kind of old and antiquated pronouns... Do we want them to use "our/we/etc"?. Also note, the "hrfm" is just a grunting noise this character does periodically as a verbal tic, literally 'ununu'. Feel free to omit.]
[Also, the people in this adventure say like "My country of Eastland" or "This Westland", that kind of thing. That reads weird in English - we should probably just condense it to "Eastland" and "Westland" in those cases]

It hasn't rained here for several years...
Because of the long drought, no one has any strength left to work. [TN: This is kind of literal but reads very awkwardly to me in English]

The citizens are also in trouble! [TN: As in they are suffering from the drought, not that they are responsible for the conflict]
At this rate, the two countries will go to war.
Help the two countries make up and save the citizens.
That's the goal of this adventure!

The guardian deity for two countries is enshrined here.

A long time ago, Eastland and Westland combined their power to overcome many hardships...
Now, the water shortage is the origin of these two countries not getting along.
I expect their guardian deity, "Two-Headed King Rex", is surely lamenting this...

Even if either watergate opens, conflict will be inevitable... [TN: I think the point he's making here is "even if, say, the East Gate opened and Eastland had access to water, that wouldn't solve the problem. The people of Westland would still be clambering for war, and the people of Eastland would still hate their neighbors". i.e., just getting them water won't be enough to solve the root cause of the conflict, the mistrust and animosity between the two kingdoms. So if we can find a way to put all of that subtext into two textboxes, that'd be swell]

I wish that the guardian deity will always want to watch over these countries [TN: I think the implication is that, the way things are going now, God will forsake these countries because of their feud, and the priest is praying that that won't be the case]
An underground passage was made from this temple to the Northern Wasteland.
From here, you can go to the "North Gate" at the Northern Wasteland

This country calls it "Moemoesou". [TN: "Sou" is just a suffix that's common in plant/grass names, kinda like how we can use "weed" in English (milkweed, snakeweed, skunkweed, etc). "Moemoe" is onomatopoeia for burning (and also a pun, since "moe" also means "to sprout"). I don't really like either of these options, but "Wickweed" or "Waxweed" are the best English names I can think of to preserve this...]
