- Jodah found himself among the Order of the Sacred Torch when a handful of ashen ghouls, their smoke-gray faces making them look like undead monkeys, assaulted them. The leader of the ghouls was formerly a man named Klausson, still bedecked in Sacred Torch armor. His eyes had been removed and replaced with iron balls, from which dripped short lengths of chain like cast-iron tears. Still, none who had served under the man could fight him, and the unit began to waver and fall back.
- Jodah cursed himself for having to waste the spell, but he reached inside himself and pulled forth a ball of red mana, flinging it at the undead commander. Klausson’s chain-bound corpse went up in flames immediately, its pale flesh catching like tallow.
