- ~[Zombie Apocalypse! AU] Beginning at Dawn~
- "How... How could I let this happen?"
- Snot and mucus were dripping out of her nose as her sniffles resonated across the room. Guilt had practically consumed her heart. She could have prevented this if only she had intervened beforehand.
- Her brother was dead. It was her fault. Joan already knew of the risks the project posed, yet she still let him continue to participate in it.
- She should have tried to persuade him to not go on, but she didn't. Her worry was pushed back by her optimistic thinking that everything will be fine.
- She was proven wrong by the call she had received not just a while ago.
- ~•~•~
- "Hello?"
- "Is this Ms. Joan Wilburn?"
- "Yes, it is. Who is this?"
- "Are you the older sister of William?"
- Well, that was rude of her to ignore the question. Joan sighed, opting to not further push.
- "He's my brother. If he has done something wrong, then I--"
- "He's dead."
- "What?"
- "There has been an accident at work, and he got caught in it. Unfortunately, the damages that were dealt to him were fatal, and he passed away a few hours after."
- "This... This has to be some sick joke, isn't?"
- "I'm sorry to say, but it isn't ma'am."
- "..."
- The line on the other side died, leaving only a distinct ringing sound from the communication device in the background.

- A few hours had already passed since she began to weep. Joan felt tired and emotionally drained. It was already late in the evening, thankfully she ate dinner before answering the call. She should really sleep.
- As the first rays of the sun began to appear, it symbolizes hope and the start of something new, a new beginning to an era or phenomenon. There's uncertainty about what events will unfold. All you can do is hope that you won't have a bad end, and be prepared for the perils that lie ahead.
