- Xenosaga Episode II - Swimsuit Edition
- Platform: PS2
- Released:
- 24.06.2004 (J)
- 15.02.2005 (NA)
- 04.11.2005 (PAL)
- Based on: PAL-version (SCES-82034, SCES-82035)
- - A single save file takes 33 kb of space.
- - The play time counter maxes out at 99:59:59.
- - You can do a soft reset by hitting the usual buttons.
- - The game's box is difficult to handle, so you should keep the discs
- somewhere else. When using regular cases, make sure they're not exposed
- to any sunlight (direct or otherwise).
- - Again, I would suggest getting the Japanese version just because of
- the voice acting.
- - Exp, SP and CP are all divided among active party members (bosses
- are pretty much the only enemies that give CP). Characters in the
- reserve gain 75% Exp of what an active PC gains, but no SP or CP.
- - There is no money in the game. All items are either found, dropped
- by enemies, obtained through events or by using Psycho Pocket or Prayer.
- - A character in the reserve will regenerate 25% HP and EP at the end
- of a battle.
- - Dead characters will be revived with 1 HP after battle.
- - The Escape command is only available to Shion, Momo and ES Zebulun.
- - Attacks have a primary attribute (physical or ether) and usually
- one or two secondary attributes (one from a or b, or one from both).
- Secondary attributes are divided into two groups: (a) Fire, Ice, Thunder,
- Aura, and (b) Strike, Slash, Pierce, Beam. Below you can see what type
- of damage a character deals with their normal attacks.
- Shion | Ether | (Beam) | Thunder
- KOS-MOS | Physical | Strike, Slash | | [Float]
- Momo | Ether | Pierce
- Ziggy | Physical | Strike, Slash | Fire | [Knockdown]
- Jin | Physical | Slash, Strike | | [Float]
- Jr. | Physical | Pierce
- Chaos | Physical | Strike | Aura | [Knockdown]
- - Casting Sword spells on Shion, Ziggy, or Chaos has no effect, as their
- native elements always take priority.
- - Ziggy and Chaos can't attack floated targets with their normal attacks.
- - You can inflict Break on an enemy by hitting its Break zone. While
- under Break, the enemy takes 150% damage and can be floated or knocked
- down. When floated or knocked down, the enemy takes 200% damage. Break
- zone hits, Break, float and knockdown are only in effect for the duration
- of the current attack or combo, although zone hits will reset even when
- boosting if they're incorrect, and floated subjects will end up knocked
- down after the float ends.
- × Your characters don't have Break zones and can be floated or knocked
- down at any time.
- - Using Stock allows you to attack multiple times in a single turn. Use
- the Stock command to gain +1 Stock. The Stock maxes at 3. Any Stock you
- have at the end of a battle is lost.
- × When you Break an enemy, the character has a 50% chance of gaining 1
- Stock.
- × Enemies don't have a Stock.
- - Hold R1 or R2 to Boost. Boosting gives a subject an extra turn and
- enables combos. Boosting is only possible when the subject's icon is
- not visible in the turn list (unless Boost Power is equipped). The Boost
- gauge requires 5 points for a single charge and maxes at 3 charges.
- Attacking gives a party 1 point (normal attacks only for PCs). This is 3
- points (very occasionally 5) when attacking during the Boost gauge bonus
- modifier. A party also gains 1 point when attacked during the Boost 2
- modifier. The number of points reverts to 0 at the end of a battle.
- × Boosting allows you to cast special spells where two spells are combined.
- After boosting, press Triangle when selecting a spell to see a list of
- possible combinations (if any). These spells use the first character's EAT.
- × Boosting is required to perform Double Attacks. They also have a Stock
- requirement. These powerful attacks can only be used once per battle. I
- never really use them, so I won't bother listing them.
- × Some enemies have the Boost Power ability.
- - The turn list shows who has the current turn and the order of the next
- subjects to act (3 at most). A single subject can't be on the list more
- than once at a given time (unless boosting is involved).
- - During battle, you should pay attention to the Event Slot. It displays
- modifiers that have various effects. It changes every turn in the following
- cycle:
- Crit -> Boost -> Skill -> Random ->
- × Crit: 50% Critical hit
- × Boost: Boost Gauge points + 2, 4
- × Skill: SP*x (x = 2, 4, 10)
- × Random (Ether, Turn, Boost2, none)
- × Ether: Ether power +50%
- × Turn: Cancel turn
- × Boost 2: Boost Gauge increases when attacked
- - Enemies' attribute weakness and resistance levels vary greatly, so
- the enemy list will only give you a general idea of what is effective.
- Resistances are not indicated except in the rare case where the enemy
- absorbs an element.
- - Elemental combo multiplier
- - No breaking occurs in mecha battles. Stock is also replaced with EC
- that's used for powerful special attacks. You gain 25 EC from attacking
- and 100 EC by using the Stock command. EC maxes at 200 unless you equip
- an ECMAX300. Each mecha has access to two special attacks of which the
- second one changes depending on the co-pilot.
- - Only Momo can use ether during mecha battles.
- - You can't use items during mecha battles.
- - The Dex vs Eva roll determines whether the attack connects normally,
- gets blocked or gets evaded. Blocking reduces physical damage by 50%
- and Ether-based damage by 25%.
- - Criticals 1,5x 2,0x
- - Enemy behavior typically changes when their HP drops below certain
- thresholds.
- - Healing spells:
- Medica | 2 | EAT * 5 Double Medica | 2+2| EAT * 5 (all)
- Medica 2 | 4 | EAT * 10 Double Medica 2 | 4+4| EAT * 10 (all)
- Medica All | 10 | EAT * 5 Revert | 20 | Revive with 25% HP
- - The healing boost from HP Mind 10/15 is target-based, not user-based.
- For healing items, the bonus is absolute, not relative. It's also added
- to the Ether event slot bonus (producing a multiplier of 1,75 at most).
- - Status ailments come in two degrees: L (white sphere) and H (orange
- sphere).
- L H | Heavy: ATP down
- L H | Weak: DFP down
- L H | Ether PD: Ether power down
- L H | Ether DD: Ether defense down
- L | Poison: -10% HP per turn
- | Poison EP: EP poison
- | Charge Down: -50 CC per turn
- L H | Blind: Dexterity and Evade down
- L | Slow: Agility down
- L | Stun: Unable to act
- H | Bind: Unable to use normal attacks
- H | Lost: Unable to cast magic or change character
- H | Boost Lock: Unable to Boost or change character
- H | Curse: Damage inflicted is reflected
- - There are two separate spells for healing L and H-type status effects.
- The spell will not work if the caster's EAT isn't high enough.
- - Attacks that inflict status ailments but deal no damage can't be
- evaded, but the ailment can be resisted.

- |
- [Boss: Inversion]
- - 49 600 HP, 52 000 Exp, Auto Recover, W: Physical, Fire, Aura, A:BIT
- - The block puzzle by the third save point is optional, and all you get
- from completing it is Secret Key 27 (ST Double). It also takes you
- where you need to go, but if you can't be bothered with it, just take
- the left path.
- - If you solve the puzzle and take that path, do *not* destroy any of
- the yellow crystals. If you do, you will encounter members of the Ortu
- Ria family. These guys are *very* unpleasant. When their HP drops below
- 25%, they'll counter-boost and you'll receive a message saying 'Nanomachine
- malfunction.' On their next turn (counter-boosted if you attack them)
- they will blow up on your face dealing more or less devastating damage
- (Pierce, up to 3000 pod) to your entire party. If you survive it, you
- have little time to finish them off, as they will regenerate all their
- HP on their next turn.
- × Ortu Ria Kufli can inflict Bind.
- × Ortu Ria Lukia can inflict Lost on all your characters and it
- doesn't wear off. It can also cast Medica 2 to heal 4800 HP.
- × Ortu Ria Hins can inflict Boost Lock.
- - If you really want the items that are inside the crystals, you can
- just run away from the Ortu Rias.
- [Scene117]. Proceed north from the 4th and final save point.
- |
- [Boss: Cathedral]
- - 32 000 HP, 42 000 Exp, 3000 SP, 4800 CP
- - White Robe: CCCC, W: Beam
- - Cry of the Rapture: BBC, W: Strike, Slash, Pierce
- - Call to Arms: BCCB, W: Beam, Fire, Ice, Thunder, Aura
- - Can be downed but not floated.
- - It has three modes. It will switch modes depending on what you do
- when it uses Wheel of Memory.
- × White Robe: Not attacked.
- × Cry of the Rapture: Attacked by a female character.
- × Call to Arms: Attacked by a male character.
- - You'll probably want to keep it in White Robe mode. Use Ziggy, KOS-MOS
- and Shion. Dragon Blade works nicely.
- - In Cry of the Rapture mode, it uses fire and thunder spells and likes
- to Counter-Boost most attacks. If you end up with this mode, forget
- about breaking it and just use full stock combos with Ziggy, KOS-MOS and Jin.
- - Call to Arms is the worst possible scenario and pretty much warrants
- resetting. In this mode, it spams you with a fairly powerful physical
- attack (Strike) that hits all your characters.
- - In both Cry of the Rapture and Call to Arms, it uses an instant death
- attack, but it takes a good while to kick in. In White Robe, you'll just
- have to deal with Stun.
- - Return to save.
- [Scene118r]. Use the terminal.
- |
- [Boss: Patriarch]
- - 21 600 HP \ 32 400 HP, 72 000 Exp, 6000 SP, 5400 CP
- - BCBB -> BCC
- - W: Physical, Strike, Slash, Pierce | R: Beam, Fire, Ice, Thunder
- - Equip Aura Coats.
- - Phase 1 is just a warm up. Phase 2 is mainly hard because Proto Omega
- can wipe out your entire party unless someone resists the float before
- that. Use Safety Level and you might make it.
- - If your EAT isn't high enough to get rid of Boost Lock, you'll just
- have to settle for regular combos (or use an Antidote H).
- - I use Ziggy, KOS-MOS and Momo (~Lv50). Takes me 30 minutes.
