- The good
- >Every significant character and the actors that play them
- >Han Solo has a significant amount of screen time, way more than I expected
- >That scene aboard Hand and Chewie's transport vessel was cool slice of life/wild west in space-esque scene that had
- the right amount of world-building and action, wish there was more like it.
- >The first-act stuff with Rey on Jakku was really cool too, it also had a lot of world building/atmosphere and breathing
- room to get used to the characters and setting, also wish there was more of this.
- >Really really good cinematography and visuals
- >Han's death was handled really well
- >Kylo Ren was actually a well thought out villain with a twist
- >We get to see Coruscant again
- >Really good emotional scenes and sequences
- >references old movies without overdoing it
- The bad
- >Soundtrack offered nothing new
- >Spaceship battles were uninteresting, or at least nowhere near as interesting or memorable as the Deathstar trench
- run in ANH
- >Lightsaber fight in the woods and final Lightsaber fight was uninteresting and power levels made no sense
- >Po and Finn first meet and instantly become best friends - a little too 'Disney' if you ask me
- >The millenium falcon just happens to be where Rey just happens to work near where Po just happens to know a guy
- who has a map to Luke Skywalker
- >not enough 'cool' alien designs (Gungans, whatever Sebulba was), but rather leans towards more 'grotesque'. Maz
- was a pretty cool character though
- >Captain Phasma
- >Snoke - looks like some lame AF zombie

- This will be non-chronologically ordered complaint log:
- The movie was full of needless exposition. Constantly trying to reiterate specifically one big plot point that could have
- been taken care of with one powerful moment of realization, but they squandered it. Which is strange, because when
- they went on to reveal a certain name they did it much more competently.
- They felt the need to give all the background characters first and last names when they came into frame it seemed.
- Just let them be characters; let kids find out their names on the action figure packaging like the old days.
- Rey had cringe-inducing 'girl power' scenes and lines, just as I kind of feared she might. Han says a line to her that
- kind of circumvents this, but just barely. I think people these days would call that 'mansplaining' and I can't wait to see a
- complaint article about that one line. Leia was a bad ass female character created from the will of the writers, not from
- the need to pander to people don't and never will like Star Wars. That's why she works.
- The implementation of R2D2 was so lazily written, why did Disney let them get away with it? He just decides to power
- up again at the right moment for plot convenience? Fuck you.
- I'm bordering on whether or not Kylo's face reveal was a mistake or not. On one hand, you kind of want that moment of
- 'OH! That's what that character looks like." Which doesn't happen. But on the other hand, this movie decides to play
- with the character and your expectations. But considering the rest of the writing, I doubt this was intentional.
- The humans in this movie treat the droids like sentient humans with feelings. In the OT, droids were appliances that
- characters would sarcastically respond to. They changed that in The Phantom Menace when Amidala decided to thank
- R2D2 for doing what he was built for, but that's the prequels. There's no excuse here. It was strange.
- There's an edit in the movie in which after Rey leaves a big area where Ren was, she arrives in the forest, and she
- hears his saber light up and sees him stand beyond where she is. How the fuck did he get out there so fast? Don't give
- me any bullshit Force explanations.
- Leia, in response to the death of Han Solo, decides to seek comfort from this new girl Rey, and not Han Solo's giant
- hairy boyfriend Chewbacca. What the hell is going on? Why did Han Solo have to die in such a mediocre movie? They
- should have just left him out of the picture if this is the best they could do.
- Andy Serkis, performance capture actor, claimed that Snoke couldn't have been pulled off with practical effects. You
- see the movie and it turns out it's complete horseshit. He was just a bald, pale guy with a few scars. That's another
- thing, all of the puppets and costumes were coated in so much CGI, what was even the point? Pacific Rim had this
- problem too.
- Maz Kanata's voice fucking sucked. She's this weird ass, orange alien, and she sounds slightly Jamaican? Are you
- kidding me? And then she gave this stupid line after they ask where she found Anakin and Luke's blue saber, saying
- 'that's a story for another time.' She might as well have said 'wait for episode 8, you fucking nerds.'
- The last shot of Luke Skywalker is bittersweet. Mark Hamill looks fantastic, but the shot has a weird helicopter panning
- motion in which Rey holds out Luke's original blue saber, presenting it to him. Without music, it would be crazy
- awkward.
- Speaking of music, this is John William's most generic scoring to any film. I'm not sure if it's John William's fault, or the
- editors' faults. The soundtrack was released on YouTube, and it sounds fine. Sounds a bit like a Studio Ghibli
- soundtrack rather than Star Wars, but sounds fine. What happened to make the music so damn forgetful?
- The worst part is the third Death Star. Two times they create a Death Star, and it's blown up. Who the fuck thought a
- third time was a good idea? And the cast make note that it's a stupid idea, but there's never a good reason given for it.
- Out of all the fuck ups, repeating the ending of A New Hope was the absolute worst. Holy shit.
- Strangely, the one thing I like story-wise was Kylo Ren, his real name revealed to be "Ben Solo". He's whiny young-
- adult prequel Anakin done right. A lot of people seem to hate the look of Adam Driver, but I thought he worked. He
- keeps his helmet in a tray full of what I assume is his grandfather's ashes when not wearing it, which I thought was bad
- ass. He talks to the severed head, or mask, of Darth Vader. He's fucking nuts. It's just a shame he's within this
- mediocre frame of a movie.
- The best scene ironically involves the biggerer, betterer Death Star. The new Death Star sucks up entire suns to
- charge its weapon. In the confrontation between Ben and his father Han, the light is being sucked from the sun, and it
- mirrors Ben's psyche. As soon as the light leaves Ben completely in shadow, he kills his father like a cold monster. It
- was devestating. Chewie's reaction was heart breaking. He prematurely set off the charges he and Han left earlier,
- perhaps in a suicidal bit and started to rage at surrounding Stormtroopers with his bowblaster or whatever it's called.
- The whole time giving tear jerking wookie cry. Again, the shame is that it's framed in such mediocre film.
- The movie is exciting to watch, compared to the prequels, but once you start thinking about it, the excitement can't
- make up for the fuck ups in the story like the original movies' can.
- I hope they step their game up for VIII, this is pathetic.?

- >Everyone knows the Star Wars series peaked with that confrontation in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) between
- Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and the villain, Darth Vader (played on screen by David Prowse, but voiced by James
- Earl Jones).
- >The “Luke, I am your father” revelation resonated because it expressed how George Lucas, like his movie-brat peers
- (Coppola, Bogdanovich, Scorsese, Spielberg, De Palma) struggled with Sixties generational ambivalence. A father–son
- antagonism resounds through all their films as a reflection of Vietnam-era student protests and the privilege of those
- draft-dodging filmmaker progeny. Even Lucas, in his escapist outer-space mode, iterated the era’s unease, culminating
- in Luke’s fear and symbolic castration.
- >It’s seldom realized that the movie brats’ films are essentially conservative, politically speaking. Yet, in the new
- millennium, filmgoers’ superficial political awareness makes them nostalgic for Star Wars to maintain the gullibility of
- their youth. Longing for innocence is all that the insipidness of the latest sequel, The Force Awakens, signifies. When
- director J. J. Abrams re-stages that primal moment, he does it for brand recognition, but so unimaginatively that it feels
- hackneyed. Even though it’s meant to be painful for rabid Star Wars fanatics, it lacks mythological significance. Star
- Wars fans are not required to think metaphorically, so any Oedipal meaning is lost (although there is something of
- millennial ingratitude in the new filial confrontation), just as the original scene’s impact was ignored in subsequent
- sequels.
- How the fuck did they "destroy the republic"? Is the republic those 4 planets? Why does this smell like shitty writing?
- What planets were those they destroyed? Coruscant?
- How did the energy beam traveled so fast to destroy those planets? The light of the sun takes 8 minutes to reach earth.
- Was that planetary system the size of the distance of earth from mars? Does the beam travels faster than light?
- How could the character see the planets being destroyed in broad daylight? And at naked eyes? How can they see the
- planets so clearly if they are in a different solar system?
- How can they compress inside a small planet's core without turning it into a black hole.
- This part of the movie made me cringe. I know SW is space fantasy, but this screams like "I don't give a fuck about all,
- I just want a dramatic scene." - J.J. Hackams
- >a coward
- >given a name by a white man
- >full of himself/boastful with small achievements
- >can't fly
- >not a great fighter
- >not a force user
- >not a great Storm trooper
- >not good at sanitation
- >drinks out of the same water trough as a pig beast
- >puppy dogging Rey
- >gets the lightsaber taken away from him
- >gets hacked and sliced
- >put into a coma
- Disappointing final light saber fight scene.
- >Some girl living in the middle of bumfuck nowhere
- >learned how to out-pilot professional soldier pilots who've trained since childhood, in a larger, older, beat up ship she'd
- never even touched before with some VR training sims
- >Can fix said ship better than Han fucking solo, who has been working on that specific ship for like 30 fucking years.
- can fix or hack anything, for all reasons, just because she used to scrap junk on her planet
- >is RIDICULOUSLY force gifted. more so than luke or FUCKING ANAKIN, who is literally basically force incarnate.
- goes from just learning the force is real, to using jedi mind tricks and telekinesis in like a day
- >outfights a trained lightsaber combatant trained personally by luke and a sith lord. oh, but not at first. she just hears
- the word "force", which somehow lets her close her eyes and just become better for no reason.
- >the entire plot revolves around her for no reason. Leia runs to hug her when she got back, as if they were such good
- friends. despite NOT EVEN SPEAKING TO HER ONCE before this. TOTALLY IGNORES CHEWBACCA, WHO IS AN
- OLD FRIEND, AND HAN'S BEST FRIEND.
- And don't any of you motherfuckers try to say luke was the same. luke fucked up CONSTANTLY. he couldn't even
- forcegrab his lightsaber till the second movie, and was constantly being saved by everyone around him.
- If not a mary sue, she's still a poorly written, overpowered walking plot device that is totally devoid of any arc or
- suspense. she just wins and succeeds.
- This movie really lacked a proper villain.
- This faggot was introcuced in a great way. stopping the blaster and sensing that Finn is a traitor made him really
- powerful and awesome.
- With each minute he became weaker. When he had to try hard to get the location of the map out of Poe's mind it was
- already questionable but okay, he did it.
- But when he took of his mask and then lost the force duel with Rey... holy shit that was bad.
- You can't just introduce your villain as a powerful next generation sith or something and reduce him to an idiot that
- assembled his own lightsaber.
- Also Rey was far too powerful for having just discovered the force.
- And as a result of the abscence of any proper jedi/sith who knew their shit, the battle between them was just boring and
- awkward.
- >How did she manage to pilot the Falcon with ease even though she's never piloted before?
- I think the point of her wearing the Rebel helmet was to show she has an interest in flying. Plus, a huge helping of the
- force. It seems that lets you do a lot of flying shit. As dumb as it was it's not much different from baby Anikin flying in a
- battle or Luke blowin up the Death Star
- >How did she use the Force so well when she didn't know what it was 20 minutes earlier?
- She heard the stories and knew about it, she just didn't know she could actually do it.
- Also, no proof, but I think the mind reading works twoways. Its just most people, like Poe, can only resist at best.
- Because she did have the force she was able to push back so she may have gotten a tiny accidental crash course
- reading Kylos mind.
- >How did she manage to smoke so many Storm troopers when she didn't know how to shoot a blaster?
- Meh, Force plus generic action movie crap. Not good, but not really horrible.
- >How did she know how to understand BB-8 and Chewbacca so easily?
- I don't think there is any logic behind Star Wars languages.
- >Why did everyone immediately get a boner for her after knowing her for all of a few minutes?
- Everyone got a boner for Leia too. Its called men think with their dicks.
- >Why is she so good with technology?!?!
- First part of the movie clearly establishes her as a tech scavenger. She probably has quite a bit of pracitcal knowledge.
- >how could she climb that wall like a pro?!
- First time we see her she's clearly shown as being quite agile and a good scaler
- >b-but she beat muh Kylo Ren
- Who was seriously injured before their fight by Chewbacca, and again by Finn. He was nowhere near his maximum
- ability.
- How to improve SW: TFA
- >During Poe and Finn's escape they just leave without an extended sequence of them getting free of a bungie cord
- >Poe stays dead (he's a fun character but it just works better narratively)
- >They escape the freighter by narrowly avoiding the originally introduced pirates and not generic monsters
- >Phasma is the trooper with the shock baton and dies honorably
- >R2-D2 is alongside C-3P0 as always instead of being a plot device
- >How the First Order, Resistance, and Republic works is better explained
- >Finn disables the shields himself and while doing so finds the rest of the map in the computer files
- >Finn is killed by Kylo
- >Instead of Rey almost winning before being separated from Kylo by a earthquake it's the other way around
- >Movie ends on Leia and Rey hugging
