The fisherman, who was very frightened, answered him: "My lord, have mercy, for God's sake! I did not kill him! But why should I make the story longer for you? They put him into the skiff and took him up to the castle. They bedded him down in a beautiful bed and covered him up, and did everything possible for him. They did so much that, before the hour of midnight, he opened his eyes and said: "Good Lord God, where am I?" The damsel, who was standing in front of him, told him the whole story. It became known then that the leaf he had plucked from the precious tree worked to his great advantage, for it had guarded him so well against the poison that this did not kill him; instead, within three days he recovered as good a state of health as he had known a month before or at any other previous time.
