- Hamburger Stew
- This recipe does not require any seasoning packets or other prepared
- items other than canned goods, but can be made with ingredients at hand.
- 3/4 pound ground beef
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, separated
- 1 teaspoon black pepper, separated
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 can sliced carrots, drained
- 1 can whole kernel corn, drained
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 1 can diced tomatoes with juice
- 2 cups egg noodles
- water as needed
- vegetable oil as needed
- Put potatoes and celery into a large pot. Cover with water. Boil over
- medium heat for 45 minutes or until tender.
- Meanwhile, cover bottom of skillet with vegetable oil to a depth of 1/8
- inch. Sautee onion and garlic over medium low heat. Add ground beef, 1/2
- teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Brown the ground beef.
- Add carrots, corn, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin,
- Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper to
- the stew pot, and stir.
- Then add ground beef, onion, garlic, and additional water to the stew
- pot. Stir and simmer for one hour.
- Boil egg noodles with 1/2 teaspoon salt in a separate small pan. Drain
- noodles and add to stew pot a few minutes stew is done.
