- Alchemy
- Alchemy is a skill that correlates with the potions and poisons in the shop. Alchemy is best used with players planning to incorporate high amounts of gold into their play style, as it allows them to get more potions and poisons. The skill itself only makes potions 20% stronger in their effect, and apprentice alchemy is needed to make poisons receive the same 20% bonus. Adept alchemy allows potions and poisons that have a timer to last 20% longer, which in some cases like the Lingering Damage Health poison or the Invisibility potion can actually make them stronger because of the additional time. Expert alchemy will give the user a 50% poison resistance, equal to a fortify poison resistance on a chest or shield enchantment. Master alchemy gives a 10% chance to receive two of the same potion or poison when you buy one. The fortify alchemy enchantment also increases the potency of potions and poisons.
- Alchemy allows for potions and poisons to be more powerful, but at the cost of consuming gold with no pay off from kills, as kills reward no gold and dead bodies cannot be looted when the enemy was killed by a poison or a player under the effects of a potion. This makes getting gold much harder then just getting kills, and other stealth skill bonuses are optimal. The speech skill pairs the best, as not only does it lower prices and offer more gold, but adept speech allows players to sell fallen items for gold, making kills with potions or poisons still profitable. Another way to pass the removal of gold on kill penalty is to use instant potions like Well Being, as they provide instant recovery and kills after using these do not count as a kill while under the effects of a potion. The pickpocket skill also works well, as enemies can first be pickpocketed and then the player can use a potion/poison. The sneak skill complements these well too, and lockpicking can be used to ensure more gold from chests. Bows are efficient with poisons, allowing to deliver powerful poisons at a distance and then confront the enemy at closer range while they are wounded. Potions can complement any type of play style, as they can buff skills and give abilities like invisibility that all players can benefit from.
- While there is not a direct skill to buff scrolls akin with alchemy to potions and poisons, scrolls do benefit from any skill bonuses corresponding with the school of magic of the scroll's spell.
