  1. The idea that your purchases relate to your identity is one that has been going on for quite some time. In my opinion I believe that the possessions that tie the closest into that idea are clothing and fashion, the articles that are available for those people allow them to acquire an understanding of your identity.
  2. This allows people to understand who they are the two articles that closely tie into this same thought are “We Are What We Buy” and “Fashion & Social Identity: A Cultural Phenomenon.” Both of these texts share the common thought that fashion as it relates to people is an outlet and a cultivator of personal identity. The articles go into the notion that fashion is one of the main ways that people acquire their first impression of a person. In a sense your clothes “define” you even though identity may not always translate through clothing it is a channel to extend yourself or your identity to the world.
