it unlocks many cool features!
- 1) Basic steps in the process of crystallization is the selection of the solvent. See whether your compound is soluble in hol hot water .Take compd. in test tube & heat to boiling & then add aminal charcol before heating to adsorb coloured impurities on it. Then filter through cotton & cool it on standing at a room temperature.,the solid separates out, then filter on buckner funnel using good quality of the filter paper.
- 2) Acetanide C6H5NHCOCH3contains a polar bonds N-H & C=O bonds . Because of this , the polar solvent dissoves polar compound . Acetanilide is well solvated. Water is a good universal , cheaper solvent for crystallization ot it.
- 3)During crystallization the colecules deposits on one another slowly the crystal lattice begins to form.If the solubilty of the compd. is less then it separates out quickly from solution., however the the solid will not have good crystalline form..
- 4)The minimum amount of the solvent must be used because the crystals should be enough closer , so that they can deposit easily with minimum distance.among the molecules.
- 5.The incorporation of the impurity lowers he melting point of the solid.
