  1. >Day party time on Earth.
  2. >Be Anon.
  3. >You brought a special gift for your best friend.
  4. >It's Aero's birthday and your mom is driving you to her house.
  5. >You walk up the porch and ring the doorbell; wrapped package in hand.
  6. >Open the door.
  7. >Get on the floor.
  8. >"Hello, little Nonny!" greeted Aero's mother. "And hello, Mrs. Anonymous. Are you staying or just dropping off?"
  9. >"I'm just dropping him off," answered your mother. "I'll be back in a while."
  10. >"Alrighty then. Take care!"
  11. >Your mom drives away and leaves you standing at the door.
  12. >"You can put your present on the table there," gestures Aero's mom. "The rest of the children are out back."
  13. "Okay."
  14. >You drop the present and go outside.
  15. >There's a bunch of fillies and other kids from your class running around and playing party games.
  16. >A quick scan finds the filly of the hour.
  17. >Aero is blindfolded and surrounded by other kids as she takes swings at a hovering pinata.
  18. >You decide to push yourself to the front of the crowd to say "Hi".
  19. "Aero! Sorry I'm- Oof!"
  20. >You take a bat to the gut and fall over to the ground.
  21.
  22. >"Vhut? Herro?" mumbled Aero around the bat in her mouth as she looked around for the voice.
  23. >She drops the bat, undoes the blindfold, and finds you on the grass.
  24. >There's also a crowd of kids laughing at you.
  25. >Even some of the parents, one with a video camera, are having a chuckle.
  26. >Aero smiles as she lowers her head to your level.
  27. >"Oh, hey Anon! What's up?"
  28. "Just catching my breath," you wheeze.
  29. >Aero reaches out a hoof to help you up.
  30. >Taking it in hand, you rise to your feet.
  31. >She proceeds to grab the bat and hands it off to another foal.
  32. >"Here, Pat. You can try," she says.
  33. >"Aww yee-ah," said the little zebracorn as he took the bat.
  34. >Aero walks with you over to the pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey as Pat decided to chuck the bat aside and shoot the pinata with dual nerf pistols instead.
  35. >"When did you get here?" asked Aero.
  36. "Just now. I got you a present."
  37. >"Is it magical wings?" asked the earth pony.
  38. "N-no?"
  39. >You're not quite sure what the right answer for that is.
  40. >"Ah, that's alright. I'm sure there's robot wings out there somewhere," replied Aero with a dismissive wave of her hoof.
  41.
  42. >That's always been a thing with her for as long as you've known her.
  43. >Which in all honesty was probably only like a year or two since she moved here.
  44. >Planes! Helicopters! Rocket ships!
  45. >Since Aero wasn't born a pegasus, she's often wondered how to get a hold of a flying machine in order to attain flight.
  46. >At one point in time, she jumped out of a tree and flapped her front legs as fast as she could in an attempt to fly.
  47. >Good thing it was autumn and there was a pile of leaves below her.
  48. >Which also happened to not be part of the plan.
  49. >Her mother says it was just a phase.
  50. >You're inclined to agree.
  51. >"Kids! It's time for cake!" called Aero's mother.
  52. >"Woo!" cheered every child in the backyard.
  53. >It was like a stampede as everyone ran into the house and into the dining room.
  54. >To much of your surprise, as well as all the other children's, Aero's mother bought her an ice cream cake.
  55. >Vanilla and oreo cookie, hell yeah.
  56. >Birthday song, blow out the candles.
  57. >Wow, one candle short from getting your wish.
  58. >Tough break, pony.
  59.
  60. >When the children were finished eating cake, it was time for the presents.
  61. >As expected, Aero was the first one off of her seat as she raced into the living room.
  62. >The rest of the children followed shortly after.
  63. >"Alright Aero," spoke her mother while simultaneously recording this moment with a rented video camera. "Pick your first present."
  64. >Aero tore through the first gift, which turned out to be a comfy-looking sweater.
  65. >A light-blue, smallish-looking female pegasus on the couch gave a quiet "Your welcome" after Aero thanked her.
  66. >Yada yada yada.
  67. >Gifts, wrapping paper, toy.
  68. >And at one point, socks.
  69. "Thanks grandpa..." mumbled Aero.
  70. >And older-looking pony raised his glass before he chugged his drink down.
  71. >And last but not least...
  72. >"From, Anon," read Aero.
  73. >You smile as she tore the paper off with her teeth.
  74. >"A kite!" she exclaimed. "Thanks, Anon!"
  75. >You were part of the group the was sitting in a semi-circle on the floor.
  76. >Aero gave you a quick hug around the neck, causing you to blush and others to laugh.
  77. >"Alright kids, guess what time it is?" piped up Aero's mother.
  78. >A clown kicked in the back door on cue.
  79. >Iiit's Bozo!" he shouted.
  80. >The rest of the kids cheered as they ran after him into the backyard.
  81. >You waited for Aero and were the last two to head out.
  82.
  83. >Several hours later, you find yourself sitting on the front porch.
  84. >Your face was painted like a tiger and you had a doggy-shaped balloon tied around your wrist.
  85. >Everyone else had left and you were sitting patiently for your mom.
  86. >Aero comes out dragging a familiar package and takes a seat next to you.
  87. >"Hey you," she starts. "How's about we take this baby out for a spin?"
  88. >The pony holds up the pieces of the kite you bought her.
  89. >Along with those pieces, she has some duct tape and string.
  90. "Sure!" you exclaim.
  91. >Two minutes later, you were across the street in a baseball field.
  92. >It was two minutes instead of one because Aero had to ask her mom if the two of you could go across the street.
  93. >Aero stares at the instructions on the grass as you piece the kite together as she tells you.
  94. >After several minutes, you hold the contraption up for her to see.
  95. "This doesn't loo right," you tell her.
  96. >The kite came out as four 'L's rotating clockwise.
  97. >"Hmm..." hummed Aero as she checked and doubled-checked her plans. "Oh!"
  98. >She quickly straightened the sticks to make the diamond shape you're familiar with.
  99. "Oooh..." you said in realization.
  100. >"Now that's a flying machine!" exclaimed Aero.
  101. "Yeah!- Wait, what?" you ask
  102. >Aero reaches down and tosses you the duct tape and yarn.
  103. >"Here. Tape the string to the kite and the kite to my legs," she said."
  104. >You steal glances from her, to the kite, and back.
  105. "But... but wouldn't that get us grounded?" you ask.
  106. >"Pfft," dismissed Aero with a wave of her hoof. "So?"
  107. "Oh, I never thought of it like that," you reply.
  108.
  109. >Some time later, you finally get the kite attached to Aero's body.
  110. >You decide to take a glance at the instructions.
  111. "It says here we need to run around in order to get the kite to fly," you say to Aero.
  112. >"Got it!" replied the pony as she ducked her head and gave her butt a shake.
  113. >In an instant, she was off.
  114. >Running to one end of the baseball field as fast as she could, she gave a hop so that she won't hit the fence.
  115. >When she didn't take off, she made a left turn and kept running.
  116. >Ever couple paces she gave another hop.
  117. >By the time she made it back around to you, she was dead tired yet still trying to hop.
  118. >So tired in fact, that she wasn't even running anymore.
  119. >Just slowly walking and wheezing heavily.
  120. >With one final lift of her body that didn't actually get herself off the ground, Aero collapsed to her side on the grass to catch her breath.
  121. >You stand over her and stare down at her.
  122. "So," you start. "Did you fly?"
  123. >"It was..." *gasp* *wheez* "Almost incredible," responded Aero.
  124. >After a short while to allow her to catch he breath, Aero finally rose to her hooves.
  125. >You passed the time by sitting down while picking the grass and letting it go in the breeze.
  126. >Aero saw the grass flow away in the wind when an idea came to mind.
  127. >"I got it!" she exclaimed.
  128.
  129. >You were now holding onto the yarn spool and Aero was standing on top of a line of picnic tables at the park.
  130. >It took a little bit for the two of you to push them together in a runway, but you got it.
  131. >"Okay, so here's the plan," started Aero. "We are going to wait until the wind starts blowing, you're going to run forward like you normall would when running with a kite, and I'll run after you. I will jump into the air at the end of the runway and I will finally take flight like the pegasus I always wanted to be~!"
  132. >You almost swear you can see stars in her eyes.
  133. >"You got that?" asked Aero.
  134. "Got it!" you confirm.
  135. >"Alright! Ready..." said the patient pony.
  136. >A slight breeze picked up.
  137. >"Steady..."
  138. >You grip the spool of yarn tightly in both hands.
  139. >The wind gusts and catches the kite on Aero's back.
  140. >"Go!" shouts the pilot pony.
  141.
  142. >You take off in a full sprint with Aero at five table-lengths behind you.
  143. >This wind dies for a brief moment, but gusts once more!
  144. >Stronger than the last.
  145. >The ktie on Aero's back snaps to the length of it's strings just as Aero leaps off of her platform and into the air!
  146. >You keep running as directed, but look back to check to see if your friend had face-planted into the ground.
  147. >To your surprise, and surely her's as well, she was airborne!
  148. >The wind was blowing, you were tugging her forward for that extra lift, nd the kite as a result was lifting higher and higher!
  149. >You can't believe it!
  150. >Was this pony's first flight?
  151. >Surely this will go down in history as the greatest-
  152. >The wind suddenly dies.
  153. >You feel the sudden tug and here a crash of kite and pony on the ground behind you.
  154. >Looking back, you find you friend rolling on the ground with you still running forward and dragging her.
  155. "Ah!" you panic as you stop and drop the yarn.
  156. >You run back to your friend and take her in your arms.
  157. >Oh know, she's unconcious!
  158. >Oh my God! She's dead-
  159. >Oh no wait, she's moving.
  160.
  161. >Aero groans and rubs her head with her hoof.
  162. "Aero!" you exclaim. "Are you alright?"
  163. >Please don't have a broken leg.
  164. >You don't want to get grounded.
  165. >"I'm fine," she says as she pushes herself out of your arms and stands on her own hooves.
  166. >Taking a quick look around, a smile suddenly appears on her face.
  167. >"That was awesome!" she shouts, doing a quick backflip on the ground.
  168. "Haha! Yeah it was!" you holler, joining the celebration. "Did you see how far you went? That must have been like ten feet!"
  169. >"Oh yeah!"
  170. >The two of you share in a high five.
  171. >"That's gotta be some kind of world record, right?" she asked.
  172. "I don't know. Two brothers flew a homemade plane pretty far," you tell her.
  173. >"Well, how far was that?" she asked. "Surely we beat it, right?"
  174. "I think so. Congratulations!"
  175. >The two of you dance around in celebration.
  176.
  177. >"We gotta do that again! Help me tie the- Oh no!"
  178. >Aero stopped and checked on the kite.
  179. >The shattered and torn remains of her glider lay in shambles on the grass at your feet.
  180. >"Never fear!" said Aero, sticking her chest out in confidence. "We shall acquire a new kite and we will send me into the stratosphere! Tomorrow morning!"
  181. >Her declaration was so powerful that it brought a single tear to your eye.
  182. >And then you realized something.
  183. "Wait, I can't. We have school tomorrow and I don't get my allowance for another month."
  184. >"Oh... Actually, me to. Well then... Next month! We shall acquire a new kite and we will send me into the stratosphere!"
  185. >If there were jets and flying eagles, you are sure they would have appeared overhead.
  186. >You give her your applause instead.
  187. >The honking of a minivan across the street gets the two of you's attention.
  188. >Your mom waves to you and hollers for you to hurry up.
  189. "Uh oh. I gotta go. See you in school tomorrow?"
  190. >"Yeah! Oh... Uh... Anon?"
  191. "Yeah?"
  192. >Aero gives you a quick peck on the cheek before blushing beet red and backing away.
  193. >"T-thanks for helping me fly today..."
  194. >She embarassingly runs away across the street and into your house.
  195. >You stand there dumbfounded and holding your cheek where she kissed you.
  196. >Your mother honks once more.
  197. >"Hurry up, Anon!" she yells.
  198. >Uh oh, gotta go.
