So you wanna know what the best alternatives for Character.AI, are right? Well, you've come to the right place, because there is quite a few of them to pick from! So I'll list off some for you to go with that are absolutely worth checking out. I feel like with the amount of people who asked me to DM them my C.AI alternatives just now, this might just turn into a copypasta in a notepad to save me the trouble of typing it out every time. Nevertheless, this is going to be a long one, as I wanna make sure to be as detailed as I can here. So let's begin:

So first of all, lemme point a few things out when looking for Character.AI Alternatives. If you see any of them out there that have Limited Messages Per (X) Amount of Time that offer microtransactions to pay for more tokens to send messages with, those platforms are GRIFTS and should be avoided like the plague. Don't support platforms that do that, as it sets a dangerous precedent for AI Chatbot Platforms. Also, none of the alternatives I'm about to mention have any types of filters on them whatsoever. Instead, they either segregate SFW from NSFW, or they're just straight-up private in their entirety. I'm also going to hopefully trust that you are at least the minimum age of 16; PREFERRABLY 18 and up. Since due to the fact that there are no filters, that means NSFW content is going to be present. And for minors, that's a big no-no. The minimum age that anyone should be interacting with AI Chatbot Websites as a whole is 16, but if NSFW is involved with particular ones, it immediately becomes 18+. Just making sure I put that disclaimer out there right now before I even say anything here.

With that said, let's get started with the two current BIGGEST direct competitors to Character.AI. What I mean by that is that these competitors have mobile apps available for their platforms, just like C.AI does. So they're able to compete with C.AI directly in that particular regard and reach a bigger audience more easily.

The first one is FIGGS AI. (figgs.ai)

Figgs has a ton of characters already on there, and is growing steadily in number. Making bots for it is relatively easy and simple, and it does a good job at teaching you the ropes with it. The user interface is pretty good overall. It's LLM model is overall good, though I've noticed that it on-and-off sometimes repeats the same responses when you refresh/swipe chat responses. Though the devs of Figgs said that they know about this problem and are actively working on improving the LLM to stop doing this. Also like C.AI, you can send images to characters using the feature Figgs has called "Vision". It should be known that the mobile app is kinda brand new and is still in the early phases of development at this time, though it is getting better with each update. Unlike the devs of C.AI, the devs of Figgs AI have been completely transparent with their community and have been working WITH THEM instead of against them to make the platform gradually get better over time. I'd definitely recommend it, despite the current flaws that are being worked out with it as it stands.

The second one is SEKAI AI. (home.sekaiapp.com)

So first of all, Sekai AI is a brand new platform that is actually EXCLUSIVE for Android and iOS Only, and is not natively available on PCs or Web Browsers at all. Be that as it may, however, Sekai AI is an EXTREMELY ambitious new AI Chatbot Platform that allows you to create your own stories with all sorts of different characters from animes, mangas, cartoons, etc... in a form akin to that of visual novels. You can make or pick any kinds of characters by giving them avatars, voices, personality, emotion-based sprites, etc... and then put up to four characters in specific scenarios of your choosing, and watch the story unfold before your eyes in real-time. It has a great user interface for its mobile app, and it makes creating stories and characters very easy and simple. You can even go back and edit the dialogue in your stories/sekais to your liking if what was generated was not to your liking. And of course, you can set your stories/sekais and characters to be either public or private. The choice is yours. The LLM model they use is surprisingly really damn good and provides very accurate responses with pretty decent memory too! Regardless, my only complaint with Sekai AI, apart from it not having a web browser version, is that you can only log in with it using either your Google Account or Apple Account. No other forms of login are currently present, though I hope they change this in the future. You can join their discord server to recommend them features if need be. It should be known, however, that Sekai AI is NOT to be confused with the now-defunct AI Chatbot Website known as "AISekai". The two do not appear to have any relation to each other whatsoever. For context: AISekai was an AI Chatbot Site that is now shut down and no longer exists. This is due to the fact that they originally started out as a strong Character.AI alternative at first with no filters whatsoever. Only for the devs to then start chasing venture capital and deciding to backstab their userbase and put filters on their platform. Needless to say, their fanbase revolted, and the resulting backlash they got was so bad and so damaging to their brand and reputation that they ultimately decided to shut the whole website down as a result. AISekai and Sekai AI are not related in any way whatsoever, and they are not run by the same devs, to my knowledge. Either way, the similarity of the name was still worth mentioning, just in case.


Now then, with that said, let's talk about a few other C.AI Alternatives that currently DO NOT have a dedicated mobile app of their own, but are still really good in their own regards, and that you can use on mobile just fine if need be by firing up your mobile browser.


The first one up is JANITOR AI. (janitorai.com)

Janitor AI is a well-respected C.AI Alternative that's been going strong for quite a bit now. As of this message, it has over 330,000 characters to pick from and is constantly growing. The user interface is very well designed and easy to navigate. All the basic chat features from C.AI are all present here, like editing & deleting messages, regenerating messages, and having multiple chats with individual characters saved. They also have personas just like C.AI does as well. The LLM Janitor AI uses is really good, and the bots in question are very high quality since Janitor AI seems to attract a lot of professional bot creators as of lately. And if hypothetically you aren't too fond of Janitor AI's LLM, you can use your own LLM instead. They actually allow you to do that on there as an option. My only complaint with Janitor in this instance is that sometimes generating messages can be a bit slow on-and-off with their LLM, but this is a relatively minor complaint in the grand scheme of things. Either way, this is a solid one that I would definitely recommend as an option to check out.

Next one up is CHARHUB. (charhub.ai)

CharHub is a DAMN GOOD C.AI Alternative that has exploded in popularity when it launched earlier this year. It has a good amount of characters so far, with new ones popping up quite frequently as the site's popularity increases. It's LLM is very good with response quality and it generates it pretty fast too, with the ability to customize generation settings like temperature, max new token controls, repetition penalty, etc... All the features you'd ever need for chatting with characters are there, and characters can even send you images in their responses. Which, speaking of that, the image generation quality of CharHub is GODLIKE. They also have a "Worlds" feature that allows you to create whole entire worlds to put your characters into and have them be a part of, making the experience all the more immersive and in-depth. Ontop of this, character Creation is very simple and easy to learn. Without a doubt, this is one of the best C.AI Alternatives and one that's only getting better and better with each major update. The devs hit the ground running with this one, and I can't wait to see what this one has to offer in the future.

Finally, the best for last.
This is the one that I myself have chosen as my primary C.AI Alternative: AGNAISTIC. (agnai.chat)

I absolutely LOVE Agnaistic with every fiber of my being. This is easily the Best C.AI Alternative I have ever seen in my life. Where do I even begin? For starters, Agnaistic is very different from all the other C.AI Alternatives out there in the sense that it is 100% Completely and Totally PRIVATE. It has a very nice sense of personal security. Because of it's private nature, Agnaistic has no characters of its own by default, with the exception of a Robot one that's used as a sample. Characters have to either be manually created or imported in from other AI Chatbot Websites like Janitor or Character Hub. Which includes from C.AI if you wanted to, if the bot in question has good enough defintions and isn't lazily made. Either way, making bots on Agnaistic is very easy to do, and I've done so myself many times now. Agnaistic themselves host 3 of their own LLMs for free, though should you decide to support them on Patreon, you'll get access to even more of their higher quality LLMs. Though even their free LLMs are good. But what's amazing is that you can import YOUR OWN LLMs into Agnaistic and use them on there just fine. The one that I myself am using is the Stheno v3.2 8B LLM hosted by Agnaistic themselves, which is easily the best free LLM I've ever used in my life. It blows C.AI's Lamda LLM outta the water with how accurate it is to what your character's personality and traits you set for them are, and makes them truly come alive. They do have other LLMs to pick from besides Stheno, if you wish to try them out, though. And if you chose to support them on Patreon, you get access to their REALLY high end LLMs that have more memory and even higher quality than Stheno. Though even their Free LLMs are still really good despite this. Which that's something that needs to be known: Agnaistic has a little bit of a learning curve to it. However, if you join the Discord Server and Subreddit for it, the community and devs would be happy to help you setup your LLMs and settings properly just fine. The Agnaistic Community is currently small, but growing steadily the more people hear about this gem of a platform. It has all the features of pretty much every C.AI alternative out there when it comes to chatting with characters, even features that they don't have. An example of this is the "Fork" feature, which allows you to create literal chat branches that you can go down different paths with. In C.AI, you'd have to clone your entire chat and then delete your messages back up to the point you wanted to go in a different direction and then take it from there. Agnaistic allows you to do that naturally with no hassle like C.AI has it. Agnaistic also has Group Chats with multiple characters, as well as MULTPLAYER CHAT, which allows you to invite other Agnaistic Users you're friends with into your chats to chat along with you and your characters. They also have unlimited image generation for free, though admittedly the image generation is slow and the quality isn't exactly the best. Though I guarantee it'll get better over time. Also just like on C.AI, you have the ability to send characters images in the same way you do it on C.AI chats. The customization with your LLMs, characters, memory, etc... is unlike anything I've ever seen on any other AI Chatbot Website out there. The options they give you to fine-tune everything is just absolutely wild. Agnaistic also has a full on guide website of theirs that helps educate people on all the various bells and whistles of their website, and it's community-driven too. As a whole, I cannot recommend Agnaistic enough. This platform is absolutely GOAT'ed.
