  1. It was a dark, but clear night. Quiet as a mouse, a figure darts between some trees. This figure is Ben Hoffson, a rambunctious 14 year old Viking without a dragon, that will come when he’s 15, but that’s in a few weeks. What matters now is that the rumours are true about Evergreen Woods.
  2. Legend says that a mysterious dragon, with a glowing purple aura roams those woods at night, everyone is afraid of it, but not Ben. His plan is to tame it, and impress all those jerks in school who says that he’ll never earn a dragon. Ben was scouting the perimeter of Evergreen Woods, then he saw the fabled purple glow, and quickly darted towards its location.
  3.
  4. Suddenly, the trees thinned out, revealing a clearing with a small stream. He darts behind a boulder as he sees the aura get closer, suddenly, a pure black Flightmare , with glowing pink eyes, and neon purple wing tips emerges, and leans down to drink the stream. Ben is so mesmerized by its beauty, that he cracks a twig, making the odd Flightmare whip its head around. They stare at each other for a few seconds, then, Ben takes a few steps forward. The dragon hisses, and takes a step back, Ben says “Heeere dragon, heeeere dragon dragon dragon!” As he corners it to a boulder, Ben is blinded by a neon purple glow coming from the dragon’s throat. Suddenly, the dragon opens its mouth, blasting Ben with a ball of pure light, he quickly feels light-headed. As his vision begins to blur, he sees the odd dragon spreading its wings, and taking off towards some mountains, then, he blacks out as his body crashes to the ground.
  5.
  6. “Ugh, my head, where am I?” Ben groans as he wakes up groggily. He slowly begins to remember what happened the night before, when he hears a rustling coming from the trees in front of him. Then, a bright green Deadly Nadder bursts out, and says “Oh! Another dragon! Hi!” Ben is shocked, ‘dragons can’t talk!’ Ben thinks to himself.
  7. “You ok? It looks like you’ve seen a ghost! Wait, what am I thinking?” He exclaims as he darts beside Ben. “I didn’t even introduce myself! My name is Spike, what’s yours?” “Um, it’s B-Ben” Ben replies. Before the Nadder can respond, another rustling is heard, then a light blue Flightmare, with almost white wing tips, enters the clearing”.
  8.
  9. “Spike! What are you doing? We’ve talked about this, don’t talk to strangers!” The Flightmare grumpily shouts, he takes one look at Ben, and whispers “stay out of my way”. Before Ben gets to say anything back to this rude dragon, Ben hears a female voice call out from the trees. “Spike? Wisp? Where are you?”
  10. Then a female Viking steps out into the clearing. “Wisp! Spike! There you are! I was worried sick” she exclaims as she begins to walk towards towards them, then she notices me. “Another Flightmare!” She says to herself. ‘What is she talking about?’ Ben thought. He walked to the stream to look at his reflection, and saw a Flightmare staring back. Ben WAS a Flightmare. She must of seen his panic, because she stroked his head, turned him towards her, then she extended her arm, holding her hand out towards him, closed her eyes, and turned her head away. Ben closed his eyes, then nuzzled her hand. When he pulled away, they both open their eyes, and he seed her smiling at him.
  11. “Welcome to the team! What am I going to call you?” She ponders. ‘This is my time to shine!’ Ben thinks to himself, he grabs a nearby fallen branch with hid new jaws, and (rather messily) writes the letters B, E, and N in the soft earth. “Wow! I didn’t know dragons could write! B. E. N. Ben, is that your name? I like it, it suits you!” The girl says. “My name is Drake, and these are my friends: Spike and Wisp” she says as she points to the exited Deadly Nadder and the rude Flightmare.
  12.
  13. “It’s getting late, we should get out of here before it gets too dark to fly” she mentions as Ben realized they he slept for almost 10 hours when he was knocked out. Drake mounts on Spike swiftly and they take to the skies, “What are you waiting for? Come on!” Spike exclaims as he flies higher in the air. Ben looks over at Wisp, who just grins an evil grin as he effortlessly soars in the air close to Spike. “Here goes nothing I guess!” He says to himself as he practices moving his wings, and after a moment, he’s hovering in the air. When Ben catches up to Spike and Wisp, Wisp looks shocked for a moment, then scowls before turning away.
  14. Suddenly it dawned on Ben: They were heading towards the mountains! This was perfect! Ben could find that Neon Flightmare and make it change him back! Then, Spike and Wisp dived down, sharply turning to the left mid-dive. ‘So much for that plan’ Ben thinks to himself as he sadly follows them to a small campsite close to a cliff. Later that evening, Drake has gone to sleep, so it was just Ben, Spike, and Wisp. “Uh, the stars are pretty tonight” Ben says, trying to break the ice between him and his new dragon friend. “Yeah, they are” Spike replies.
  15. After a minute or two of silence, the soft sound of snoring was heard from Spike’s general direction. As quick as flash, Wisp was pinning Ben to a large rock. “Listen here, bub, you may of not noticed this, but this is MY turf, NOT yours.” He growls. “I’ve spent YEARS doing HARD WORK to SLOWLY Drake’s trust, and you just get it ALL. FOR. FREE. If you think that I’m going to just hand over my number one spot to some dirty worm like you, then THINK AGAIN. GOT IT?” Ben quickly nods, then Wisp whispers “Good” through gritted fangs as he shoves Ben against the rock one last time, then stomps over to Ben’s cozy little spot, and lays down.
  16.
  17. Ben dusts himself off, then slowly slinks to Wisp’s cold, rocky spot. Then he hears his name being whispered. “Psst, Ben! Over here!” He follows the voice to the tent where Drake is sleeping, and sees her standing there in the moonlight. “I saw what happened between you and Wisp, I’m sorry about that, he gets jealous really easily, but I’m sure you’ll be friends one day, until then, you can sleep next to me.” I lay down on an extra blanket that Drake placed down for me close to her tent, I look up at the bright stars, and I silently agree, that this is only the beginning to an unforgettable adventure.
