- I've got a suggestion regarding the Glitchless category. As I've come to learn more about the game's glitches and tricks through RAM tracers, general exploits, etc., it's come to my attention that Lava Puzzle Skip is a questionable addition in the Glitchless rules.
- While on the topic, I'm pretty sure we unanimously agree that Pie Jump should be allowed, yes? There are no clips, it's just a precise movement trick. It doesn't influence a programming oversight. No glitching of the hitboxes or anything. No triggers are skipped by leaving the switches, and nothing in the game's internal memory is questioning why we didn't hit the switches. In other words, it's a timesaving trick, not a glitch.
- Additionally, Anatomyz and I talked about the inclusion of using the fast Parakarry strats in the Mega Rush room a while ago. It saves minimal time (1-2s?), and we decided it was fair game in Glitchless. Are there any counterarguments for this one? Like Pie Jump, this trick exploits poor hitboxes and doesn't clip or result in an out of bounds glitch. It doesn't really even matter, but I figured we may as well discuss it if necessary.
- But Lava Puzzle Skip. Unlike the first two tricks, this tampers with the natural programming of a memory address. Chapter 5 Trigger 19 (Entry 469696512) is set from 0 to 1 upon triggering the cutscene of pushing all three blocks into the lava. By skipping this trigger, it is no longer a programming oversight; rather, it's forcing the game to believe you are in an incorrect state by skipping this puzzle. Chapter 5 Trigger 20 (Entry 486473728) is set from 0 to 1 upon grabbing the Ultra Hammer, which forces the game to automatically assume that Chapter 5 Trigger 19 (Entry 469696512) is at a value of 1 as well. Since it isn't as a result of the Lava Puzzle Skip, the game incorrectly updates this value from 0 to 1 upon obtaining the Ultra Hammer. This causes the lava puzzle room to be "completed" even though it never truly was. I don't think anyone believes the method of skipping this puzzle is a glitch. However, because of how the game handles story triggers incorrectly as a result of performing the Lava Puzzle Skip, I would personally conclude that it is a glitch, but would like to hear feedback. (There is also a method of refighting Lava Piranha instantly following the boss fight by skipping a story trigger with precise movement, which has been unanimously considered a glitch in the past, might I add).
