- # 4.2.8 Tech and Units Balance Changelog
- Infantry and Support Changes:
- Fireteam and Demolitions Infantry unit changes:
- (Dev Note: For clarity, this refers to the mainline infantry platoon unit and not any other Fireteam or Demolitions unit.)

- Forest and Hills Movement -5% -> -10%, granted Desert Movement -5%
- Fireteam platoons granted Forest Attack -10% and Jungle Attack -15%
- Demolitions platoons granted Hills Attack -10% and Mountain Attack -15%
- (Dev Note: Yes, you are reading this correctly. Line Demolitions and Fireteams are receiving nerfs.
- If you're someone who's played with them since our previous balance patch changed the combat width of the units, this shouldn't
- be too surprising, and we've seen many people start to explore the possibilities they open up for division template design to
- great effect. In this sense, the changes succeeded at their goal, but we've also had enough time to see that the compensatory
- nerfs which accompanied the changes were too mild to prevent them from warping high level unit design.
- Different players pick up on meta trends at different paces. Factors for this include how casually they treat unit design,
- whether they play multiplayer or strictly stick to singleplayer, how often they play, etc. As such, we would hate for these
- changes to discourage experimenting with these units for players who have not yet done so extensively. This makes for
- conflicting priorities, however, with how overcentralizing they can be for more experienced or mechanically-minded players in
- designing infantry and other slow-moving divisons. As such, we're trying several targeted changes here with some varying
- intent. Soft and Hard Attack modifiers are not our preferred mechanism for balancing these units long term, but they serve as
- an important stopgap we need to use due to the greater complexity of balancing a given unit when its equipment is also used by
- other units. Due to Demolitions being greater offenders than Fireteams, however, and this trend not being too different between
- their support variants, we have also opted for some nerfs to the equipment stats as seen below.
- We're quite happy with the results of the width change overall so far, but reaching a proper state of balance will require more
- work following this patch. Please continue to provide us with your feedback as we work to get the numbers settled properly.)
