  24. Dear James,
  25. With no opportunity to appeal and your own dismissal of bothering to understand fully I have no choice to appeal to a better sense of judgement on the decision by putting facts into writing.
  26. Over 12 hours into the shift (having started at 11:00) at Sheffield Arena on Saturday 6th May, I was confronted by Kelvin Samms demanding to know if I had asked the Bruno Mars production team for a picture to be signed. An act of gross misconduct within our profession. My reply was an ademant "No!". Apparently a complaint had been raised as someone (a male) on my position (top of corridor) had made the request and (understandably) neither Tom Pickup or Adam Lofthouse were very happy about it.
  27. During the shift a Showsec colleague would come along to offer short breaks. Denise was kind enough to provide respite mostly but at approximately 22:00 a chap who I have never met before (who I now know to be someone called Dave) was doing this duty. So, after being asked the question by Kelvin and our having a lengthier chat about it, further detail came out that it was someone with a young daughter who wanted the signature as she is a fan? At this point, to state my innocence, I declared personal information that I have a daughter who is now 18 years of age and I have not seen her for seven years and therefore cannot possibly know her musical tastes. Therefore suspicion must lay with the colleague who was on my position
  28. Currently I am assisting in the seasonal marking of 9 million children's examination papers for Pearson Education Ltd. Whilst looking at one of the papers today I recalled something from Saturday night which casts a completely different perspective on the accusation that has been made.
  29. Die hardened fans of any artists are prepared to spend vastly different sums of money to be treated to hospitality. The Bruno Mars concert was no exception and upon doors opening (18:30) various customers were welcomed to the reception area at the Arena. One hour later one of Sheffield Arenas own management team came up to me with a pencil drawing that she would like passed on Bruno Mars's entourage for him to receive. With an artistic background myself I admired the work and turning the paper over I noticed that it was drawn by a little girl of 10 or 11 and it had an email address also written down.
  30. At point of the concert starting one of Bruno Mars's road crew used the toilet where I was positioned and on coming back out I pointed out the drawing which had been left, explained where it had come from, and asked if he could pass it on to the PR lady who was with them. "I'm not doing that!" he replied and he disappeared into the arena.
  31. Soon afterward Kelvin came passed and I showed him the drawing which he duly took off me and explained that any presents from fans must be given to him. Which it was but, being new to the dressing room area of the arena, did not know the protocol. Now I do? Similarly I was not instructed to move from Channel 1 on the radio to Channel 2 when the concert started and a medical emergency was delayed as a result.
  32. James, please understand now that this is my case stated and in defence of my level of professionalism. I would like to think that I have done my utmost to be a faithful worker for and on behalf of Showsec International Limited. What's more, I adore the people who I work alongside and was looking forward to a great future at many other events and occasions.
  33. With this in mind I would ask you to reconsider the decision which has been made. I certainly hope it is and I will apologise personally to any who have taken offence to my reaction at the accusation that was made against me initially. Communication has clearly gone wrong somewhere?
  34. Yours faithfully,
  35. Guy Rodgers

  39. Dear James,
  40. Just to make you aware, as I have not even had the courtesy of your acknowledgement to my appeal of the decision made, by this time tomorrow night I will be going public with the events and matters that have unfolded.
  41. The main reason being, the wrongdoing in Showsec and complete lack or even attempt of a personal apology. The other reason being, as you have quite rightly pointed out, I am not under any obligation whatsoever - but Showsec are? I am owed payment for the hours I have worked and will not be unfairly threatened, intimidated, or dictated to.
  42. Naturally, if you should happen to deem some appropriate manners in the meantime, then please do so.
  43. Always,
  44. Guy Rodgers
