- The Song of the fallen
- (The following is a rough translation of the original Protocommon text, discovered in a hidden area of the Lorelord's library in Nestwood. while very little is known about the Forerunner society of ages past, we know from this that they did exist, and were most likely the first Human, dwarf, elf and halfling settlers ever to exist in Terran. It is not known how or when the rest of the races that form the diverse civilisations of Terran as we know it today. Protocommon is the language of magic, and is very difficult to effectively translate, as first speaking it is often a subconscious process, and second it is difficult to speak it without accidentally casting a spell.)
- O Holdwyn the brave didst open his eyes
- and walked into a wretched place
- Thunder did break amidst the darkest skies
- and nothing to delay sweet raven's embrace
- Gone were the brave lads who followed him here
- His lady Ariah nowhere to be seen
- The blue mountains yonder did weep icy tears
- The red grass he stepped on didst turn into green.
- The fallen did battle 'gainst a tyrant and god
- now they live untroubled in worlds in between
- The fallen swore fealty to Holdwyn the brave
- now under the earth they lie dead and unseen...
- (The rest of the text is still being translated, and exists as one of three confirmed Forerunner texts. it is believed that the Forerunners assisted in the creation of the weave, perhaps a different one to the one we use as the source of all magic today, and perhaps that is the reason we subconsciously speak it during spell casting and rituals without really knowing the true meaning of the words we speak.)
