  1. Getting A(n Overly) Familiar
  2.
  3. When a stubborn cursed sphinx named Saghira and an equally stubborn and cursed human swordmage find themselves at an impasse, they're willing to try an unconventional competition to break the deadlock.

  8. Saghira narrowed her eyes, bristled her hackles and flared her wings, striving to look as intimidating as possible. In reality, she just looked cutely irritated, and that made her even more irritated.
  9.
  10. Saghira was a sphinx, a magical being with the head and bosom of a woman, the body of a wildcat, and the wings of an eagle. Her feline body was covered in sandy yellow fur adorned with irregular splotches of black - save for her paws, which were completely black from claw to elbow - and her hair was the same patterned hue; a rare trait for sphinxes, and considered quite beautiful, especially when paired with the rare red earth shade of her skin. She was supposed to be beautiful, and intimidating... but she wasn't.
  11.
  12. Mostly because it's very hard to be intimidated of a sphinx the size of a wildcat. A SMALL wildcat. Especially since her hips and bosom still seemed to be sized for a sphinx significantly larger than she was.
  13.
  14. Not for the first time, she cursed that bitch Okoye. They had been competing for the attention of the same androsphinx, and the miserable bitch had used some kind of unique curse to shrink Saghira down into this stunted form in order to win the male sphinx's precious seed. And when Saghira had punished her by scratching up her face, the stupid stuck-up sage of a sphinx had made the damn curse permanent!
  15.
  16. That was how she'd come to be out in this lonely stretch of wilderness. Nobody would take a mini-sphinx seriously, and her diminutive stature impeded a lot of the normal options she would have. She couldn't believe she'd been forced to fall back on the old "riddle tax" routine! Oh, she wouldn't actually *eat* anyone who couldn't answer her riddles - breaking the Compact was a fool's gambit, even if she hadn't been cursed - but it could still put food in her belly, especially when she got the drop on a merchant or a farmer taking their herds to market.
  17.
  18. Which led directly to why she was so annoyed; the riddle tax was one thing, but the fact she was being beaten?! Well, time for her ultimate riddle...
  19.
  20. "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" She demanded, glowering up at the source of her ire.
  21.
  22. The strange robe-clad traveler - Saghira was certain that it was a human woman, but something about her felt off - looked thoughtful. She pursed her lips and hummed softly, and the longer she delayed, the more tension eased away from the mini-sphinx. Saghira was just about to claim victory... and then...
  23.
  24. "They're both covered in inky black feathered quills." The strange replied confidently.
  25.
  26. "Gaaaaah!" Saghira screamed in fury, rearing back on her hind legs, wings spread as she clawed viciously at the air. "Again! How do you keep doing that?!" She shouted.
