  4. <tr><td colspan="3" style="background-color:#F2F2F2;padding:5px;text-align:justify;">Cold, powerful, and ruthless are the wolves from Malmordre, their name and reputation synonymous with cunning intelligence and bloody ambition. Their banner is stained with shadow and steel, and it is by this visceral standard that many of their members operate. Murderers, villains, mercenaries and thieves are all welcomed into the Malmordre's ranks, and together the members of the pack create a united front of uncontested strength. Loyalty, however, is paramount; betrayers and mutineers are dealt with harshly, for the Malmordre is a single, seething unit, and despite the moral ambiguity of its membership tends to adhere to a strict sense of inclusion. Anyone is welcome within the Malmordre if they have something to offer, and the importance of individual favor and political intrigue within the pack cannot be understated. The continuation of valuable heritage bloodlines is paramount to the Malmordre's ranks and organization, but power and dominance can be earned through various other means. Members are encouraged to reach the full heights of their potential within the pack, and are thus never assigned a specific task; it is assumed that each member will perform duties best suited to their individual aptitudes, and are fully expected to progress through the ranks in order to gain more respect and influence. There is no hesitation, weakness, or disloyalty. There is only blood and power. Long live the Malmordre.

  93. Crests within the Malmordre signify both bloodline and power. Each Crest is given a name, or an emblem, that represents the nature of their membership. Most members of a Crest are related; often ruled by a dominant pair, the lay-ranks of the Crest are usually comprised of the dominant pair's children. Exceptions to this rule abound; membership within a Crest is fluid, and highly dependent upon the worth that a wolf can provide. Any wolf within the Malmordre may petition the Anima to form their own Crest, so long as some blood relation exists between the majority of the Crest's members, and as long as this proposed bloodline does not intersect directly with that of any other Crest.
  94. <p>
  95. The stronger a Crest is ranked within the pack hierarchy, the higher a Crest member's individual degree of dominance within the pack. Currently, Dextra from the Dragon Crest, for instance, are higher ranking than all of the Corpus, Dextra, and Infans of the Crow Crest. Even the Infans of prestigious Crests are considered higher ranking than the majority of the members of a lower Crest. Only the Sanguis are considered to have more status than lower-ranking members of opposing/higher Crests, with all Sanguis roughly at the same level of power - though it should be noted that the Sanguis of more dominant Crests generally leverage more power and influence within the pack itself. A Crest may change its overall position within the pack via the influence, strength, and skill of its members; a direct challenge of Sanguis to Sanguis is also an acceptable means for an entire Crest to rise in the rankings. In any case, it should be noted that Crest rankings are not static; the Dragon Crest will not always be considered the most prestigious Crest, its standing depending on the capacity for the Crest itself to gain fame and utilize its clout. For instance, a Crest could be physically strong and earn admiration, or it could be particularly cunning. Rankings themselves are not so much explicitly mentioned as they are understood within the culture of the Malmordre. Few are to be caught spouting that their Crest is most favored, for what matters most is the Crest's utility. Respect is won and garnered from all members of the Malmordre. Thus there is always the opportunity for a lower Crest to rise in the rankings, and better the position and dominance of all of its members.
  96. <p>
  97. Newly-accepted members of the Malmordre that lack blood-ties to extant Crests are all, by default, considered members of the Low Crest. All members of the Low Crest are on equal footing, with the whole of the Crest considered less dominant, and much less influential, than <i>any</i> of the higher, named Crests. The only way to elevate one's rank from inclusion within the Low Crest is to be sponsored or adopted into a higher Crest. Being sponsored involves currying favor with an extant Sanguis; being adopted means mating with, and being vouched for, by an established member of a higher Crest. A wolf that is adopted or sponsored into a Crest is assumed to thereafter be a part of that Crests's bloodline.
  98. <p>
  99. Alternatively, mated or related members of the Low Crest may petition the Anima to start a Crest of their own. This is generally allowed as long as the proposed Crest does not share bloodlines with any other extant Crest within the Malmordre. Newly formed Crests take on a brand new name and emblem, and generally start lower on the totem pole than any extant Crests.

  106. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Anima</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>The Anima is the heart and soul of the Malmordre. It is she to whom all wolves bow, for she stands above and separate from all members of the lower Crests. She makes all important pack decisions and accepts all pack members, commanding respect and obedience from anyone under the shadow of the Malmordre's banner.
  107. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Sanguis</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>The Sanguis is the leader of any given Crest; they are the highest ranking member within a bloodline. They report directly to the Anima, acting both as advisers and informants to the lower populace. As a general rule, Sanguis set the tone and standard for the whole of their Crest - and as such, the position is highly sought-after, and prone to challenge. They alone may sponsor deserving wolves from the Low Crest to rise to become a part of their family, and essentially adopt a member of the Low Crest into their bloodline. Sanguis are given priority come mating season, as their blood considered the purest and strongest of their Crest.
  108. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Corpus</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>The Corpus are the second in command, or vice-generals, of a given Crest. They ensure that the will of the Sanguis is carried out. Generally much more dominant and skilled than the lower Dextra, exceptions are often made in the case of motherhood to a particularly small or newer Crest.
  109. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Dextra</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>Dextra are the normal, every-day adult members of a Crest; as such, they are the meat and muscle of a bloodline, and are often tasked with the daily upkeep and maintenance of the pack as a whole. Dextra are usually not assigned a specific task, but are instead expected to play to their individual aptitudes to strengthen the Malmordre.
  110. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Infans</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>Pups and children, Infans are the untried of any given Crest. Infans born into a Crest take their rank from the standing of that Crest, and are not elevated from this rank until they complete the Yearling Trials. If wolves from two different Crests breed, the Infans are placed into the lower-ranking Crest at birth; once they complete the Yearling Trials, they may thereafter choose to join the higher-ranking Crest, or remain with the Crest of their birth.
  111. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>Stercus</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>Slave and property, the Stercus stand below even the untried in terms of the pack's hierarchy. They may be used, harmed, and commanded by any higher-ranking member of the Malmordre. The only way to rise from the rank of Stercus is to be sponsored by a Sanguis and/or the Anima- or find escape in the dubious embrace of death. All Stercus have a mark of slavery scarred into their muzzle. Stercus are NEVER permitted to breed.

  115. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>The Yearling Trials</b></td><td width=80% align=justify> When pups in the Malmordre come of age at one year, they are required to participate in the Yearling Trials. The trials are designed to weed out those who are weak or have no valuable skills to offer the pack. The trials are unique from year to year, and are often designed by the Anima to test skills and abilities both cognitive and physical. At the end of the Trial, the Anima will ask all participants to bring back a token; a large measure of their worth is determined by the significance of the token they choose. Those with enough potential to be deemed useful or otherwise valuable to the pack will stay, and are usually elevated to Dextra within their birth Crest. Pups that fail their Trials will be cast out, or assigned to the rank of Stercus. The trials take place the month pups come of age.
  116. <tr><td valign=top width=20%><b>The Blood Rite</b></td><td width=80% align=justify>When a wolf is sponsored or adopted from the Low Crest into a named Crest, a ceremony is held wherein the new member becomes a part of that Crest's bloodline. The Sanguis of the proposed Crest and the nominated wolf are required to cut one another and ingest or swap blood in the presence of the Anima. In this way, the blood is mingled, and the wolf from the Low Crest is thereafter lifted up to take their rank from the named Crest that has adopted them.
