  1. >>MJ?
  2. >The small girl looks up from the keyboard
  3. >Her face breaks into a wide smile
  4. >"Hi, Daddy!"
  5. >Your daughter stands up and walks toward you
  6. >You can't believe that she's already up to your navel
  7. >>Hey, sweetie. Did you have fun at daycare?
  8. >"Yeah! Sayori says I'm a natch-ur-al at the piano!"
  9. >As you hold the door for MJ, you smile and wave at your old friend
  10. >She's reading to some of the younger kids, but returns the gesture
  11. >>That's great. I can't wait to hear you play
  12. >MJ climbs into backseat as you get situated up front
  13. >>Seat belts?
  14. >You hear a reassuring click, followed by the young girl's response
  15. >"Seat belts!"
  16. >You shift into reverse and pull out of Sayori's Sunshine Sittery
  17. >Despite the name, she's carved out a little success in your neighborhood
  18. >Following the familiar path home, MJ regales you with tales from her day at school
  19. >That is, until you drive past your house
  20. >"Daddy! Home's back there!"
  21. >You watch the confusion cloud her face through the rear view mirror
  22. >>Oh! You wanted to go home?
  23. >>See...
  24. >>I thought it'd be fun to go to the park...
  25. >>But if you want to go home...
  26. >Her face morphs from confusion to glee to panic in record time
  27. >"Nooooooo! I want to go to the park!"
  28. >>Are you sure? Parfait Girls is on
  29. >"Yes! Park!"
  30. >>Okay, if you say so
  31. >You're not sure if it makes you a bad person to tease your own daughter like that
  32. >But it's pretty fun
  33. >When you arrive at the park, MJ can barely contain herself
  34. >She's positively flying around the jungle gym
  35. >You trail behind her
  36. >It's a Wednesday afternoon, so you pretty much have the place to yourselves
  37. >She insists you watch as she slides down the fireman's pole
  38. >She recruits you to help push her on the swings
  39. >You know she knows how to pump her legs by now, but you play along
  40. >You restrain yourself from scolding her when she jumps off
  41. >God knows you did worse when you were her age
  42. >Following a particularly hair-raising experience on the merry-go-round, you can feel MJ slowing down
  43. >>Hey, sweetie. You ready for dinner?
  44. >She scrunches up her face thoughtfully
  45. >"Mmmmmmnope! Ahaha~"
  46. >>C'mon, don't you want to see Aunt Natsuki?
  47. >MJ's face lights up at the thought of the diminutive restaraunteur
  48. >Foregoing your car, the pair of you walk a few blocks to The Game Place
  49. >You and MJ take your normal spots at the counter, gracefully dodging the other children racing from arcade cabinet to arcade cabinet
  50. >Natsuki waves through the window when she sees you
  51. >A waitress, dressed as what can only be described as a Magical Girl in an apron, delivers 2 milkshakes
  52. >The usual
  53. >MJ spends the next couple of minutes desperately sucking on her straw, drawing very little of the thick milkshake
  54. >Eventually, you hear Natsuki's shout
  55. >"I'm taking my break! Amy, you have the kitchen!"
  56. >Your most fluorescent friend emerges, baring 2 burgers and 2 baskets of fries
  57. >Natsuki sits down next to MJ, setting down the food in front of you
  58. >>How's business?
  59. >You look around at the packed restaurant
  60. >"How do you think? With me running the show, it's nothing less than fantastic!"
  61. >You roll your eyes at her bravado
  62. >The success is going to her head, but she's earned it
  63. >MJ stays relatively quiet, listening to the adults talk
  64. >Natsuki helps herself to the younger girl's fries, dipping them in her milkshake
  65. >After a few minutes, there's a terrible crash in the kitchen
  66. >"Duty calls. Keep your daddy out of trouble, okay MJ?"
  67. >MJ mimes a salute at Natsuki
  68. >Flashing one last snaggletoothed grin, your friend returns to the kitchen
  69. >The two of you finish your meal and, knowing that a bill isn't coming, you throw a $50 on the counter
  70. >Finally, you return to your car
  71. >MJ looks pretty tired
  72. >You make your way back to the house
  73. >As you get out of the car and open the front door, you turn to your daughter
  74. >>Did you have fun today?
  75. >"Yeah! Today was really fun! Thanks, Daddy."
  76. >>I'm glad. You go get ready to take a bath, okay?
  77. >Her lightly freckled face falls
  78. >"Do I have to?"
  79. >>Yes
  80. >She goes to her room while you unload your pockets of the day's detritus
  81. >You make your way up to the 2nd floor bathroom and turn on the water
  82. >Warm, but not hot
  83. >Eventually, MJ appears, wrapped in a Doc McStuffins towel
  84. >She looks dejected, facing her porcelain foe
  85. >You open the cabinet under the sink, producing a baseball sized purple sphere
  86. >MJ audibly gasps in excitement as you throw the lavender scented bath bomb into the water
  87. >Without hesitation, she throws aside her towel and hops into the bath
  88. >MJ can basically handle herself by now, so you busy yourself reading the label of the bath bomb
  89. >You smile at the logo of Yuri's company
  90. >She still sends them to you for free, but now you can find them in stores nationwide
  91. >After a relatively low-key splash fight, you help MJ dry off and put on her robe.
  92. >You check your watch as she brushes her teeth
  93. >Finally, she returns to her bedroom to put on her pajamas
  94. >You're cutting it pretty close
  95. >You fill up a glass of water and, hearing your daughter's shout, head upstairs
  96. >After setting the water down on her bedside table, you tuck MJ in.
  97. >>I love you, sweetie.
  98. >"Mmm, I love you too, Daddy..."
  99. >>Sleep tight, baby. Don't let the bedbugs bite.
  100. >"...mmkay daddy. g'night..."
  101. >As MJ drifts off to sleep, you switch off all of her lights, save the small nightlight in the corner
  102. >You gently shut the door, heaving a sigh of relief at the easy bedtime.
  103. >You head downstairs, take out the trash, do the dishes from breakfast, before slumping down in front of the TV
  104. >Before the episode of Frasier ends, you hear a car pull into the driveway
  105. >You hop to your feet and, hearing the jingling keys outside, open the front door.
  106. >Monika's obviously jetlagged, her hair's a mess, and she's pulling a beaten up carry-on bag behind her
  107. >She's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen
  108. >You pull her into a tight hug
  109. >When you finally let go, you can see the tears in her eyes
  110. >"Oh, Anon. I missed you so much"
  111. >>I missed you too
  112. >"No more business trips"
  113. >>I think I like the sound of that
  114. >She giggles and, as if struck by something, looks around
  115. >"Anon? Where's MJ?"
  116. >>In bed. I did my best to tire her out today
  117. >>I thought tonight might just be you and me...
  118. >You smirk at her
  119. >Monika smiles at you
  120. >"I think I like the sound of that. Ahaha~"
  121. >The two of you kiss deeply
  122. >"..."
  123. >You sigh
  124. >>You want to check on her, don't you?
  125. >"I'll be right back!"
