Halley's Comet returns to the solar system and the English/American team aboard the shuttle "Churchill", making a close-up survey of the comet, discovers an alien spacecraft in the head of the comet. Inside the spacecraft are some large bat-like creatures and in three cocoons are three "dead" humans - two men and a woman. The "Churchill" takes the humans and a creature back to Earth. There the bosses of the project are amazed to find the shuttle burnt out and all but one of the crew - Carlsen - dead. The humans from the spacecraft suddenly awake and all those who come into contact with them are drained of their "lifeforce" and in time all the victims - including most of the population of London - are turned into zombies all preying on the horrified survivors for their "lifeforce". It's up to Carlsen and Major Caine of the SAS to stop them before the whole world turns into a big blood-hunt...

  47. As a big fan of Tobe Hooper, I&#39;m probably not the best person to comment on this -- his one questionable film. I mean I have friends who have fought bitterly over whether this is a bad, bad film or a good film that&#39;s misunderstood.<br/><br/>I liked it.<br/><br/>It&#39;s a throw back to the cheaply made b-graders from the late 50s and early sixties. To me it&#39;s comfort food, the special effects are on the cuff between bad and good, the acting is a little over done but it is the concept, the writing which I love the most.<br/><br/>Combining our traditional fear of the returning comet with the vampire story -- energy vampires -- was a stroke of genius. I do have some problems with it, such as if this spaceship has been hidden all these years and the vampires visit from time to time why did they choose this moment to destroy Earth. I also wish, we knew more about them.<br/><br/>The lead actor (S.R.) is spared. Why? She loves him? <br/><br/>I would love someone to re-do this movie (Hmmm) be careful what you wish for, old man. No seriously, I would to see the story fleshed out more.<br/><br/>Perfect for a Saturday afternoon -- don&#39;t have no chores to do today -- movie.
  48. By far one of the best sci-fi films out there. However, it does take multible viewings to understand the concept of the film and to be able to appreciate not only the special effect, but the main plot of the film itself. It is my own feelings that this film film got such poor reviews because no one took the time to watch the film the way it was meant to be seen. It does have some moments you wish would hurry up and pass by, but they are few and far between. Hooper, who directed TCM 1 and 2 along with a remake of INVADERS FROM MARS, and THE FUNHOUSE does his best work here. Great score, good acting,and great effects makes this a film to add to your collection, if you get the chance see the widescreen version on DVD, highly recommended to any one who is a fan of sci-fi.

  50. 2 real possibilities, firstly that they&#39;re both dead and their energy released as with the rest of the victims. Secondly that they are still alive and preserved on the ship and will return with Halley&#39;s comet in the mid 21st centuary Open to interpretation, either the energy of the human souls has been used to revive the vampires in their crystal coffins or the humans have actually become the new vampires and are preserved until the ship returns to Earth with Halley&#39;s comet. The only released version in Germany e.g. is the Theatrical Version. In the UK and US on the other hand, the only available DVD Version is the longer Original Version, referred to as Director&#39;s Cut. Lots of footage got cut out but most of the cuts were probably made for pace. Lots of scenes refering to vampires have been removed. Apart from that, the investigations of incidents with vampires, which have been cut out from the Theatrical Version, are much shorter as well. Some scenes really benefit from this because the timing is better but in most cases, the Director&#39;s Cut is the better and more convincing version. In total there are more than 100 hundred differences between both versions resulting in a difference of more than 14 minutes. a5c7b9f00b
