- Marvel's Avengers flopped
- Square Enix has released a new quarterly report reporting a loss on sales of HD games. That's what the company is calling major releases, which was the release of Marvel's Avengers.
- Analyst David Gibson examined the Japanese publisher's materials and reported that sales of the Avengers game were only 60% of the planned number. Around three million gamers on various platforms decided to break into the world of superheroes, which did not allow the publisher to recoup the development costs of the game. According to Square Enix's report, the company lost around $62 million on Marvel's Avengers. Gibson estimates that developing the game cost the publisher between $170 million and $190 million.
- Financial experts at the Japanese publisher express confidence that all is not lost and Marvel's Avengers will be able to at least recoup its production costs. But when this will happen and how much more money will need to be spent on the development of additions and updates is unknown.
