it unlocks many cool features!
- 3 year old tl;dr on nu-DF's changed or missing features
- it's probably still current because sprites and adventure mode are still the hottest shit on Earth
- >paid is $30
- >no intro
- >(((mouse support))) and infinite pop ups
- >no health report which means you have to click everyone to find out how damaged they are
- >fortress overview which told you how many dwarves of each type and animals you had replaced by a tooltip that you have to mouse over and it only shows wealth
- >can't control workshops by dwarf skill level
- >can't restrict workshops to a group of dwarves, only able to assign 1 "master" to them
- >can't decide which workshop gets which type of task from work orders (ie. forge for weaponsmithing only, then one for armor)
- >trade depot no longer displays everything at the same time, now it's all split on categories (ie. a category for "apple wood weapon bin" then one for "oak weapon bin" and so on)
- >furniture placement is mouse only
- >macros can only be used for dig designations
- >hotkeys expect you to have two hands on the keyboard, and another on the mouse to click those fucking buttons
- >Every time you assign someone to a squad, the menu goes back to the top
- >Can't micromanage ammunition types
- >weapons no longer track their kills
- >Can't manage food dwarves take nor their drinks (walk around with 0-3 food in backpack, then 0-2 water or booze)
- >The kill list for military squads is gone, which would let you designate what to kill from a list showing every being that wasn't yours, now you only have the single target designator or a box select which doesn't work across z-levels
- >You're no longer able to see what's on a table
- >You're no longer able to see farmland in use
- >Burrows can't be set to civilian alerts, alerts which would stop EVERY task and send people back inside during a siege/megabeast arrival
- >The message bar at the bottom is GONE
- >You have to frequently wave your mouse at the side notifications like a fucking retard instead of looking at the bottom and hitting 'a'nnouncements to see everything that happened recently
- >Bunch of important events (migrants, fey mood, snatchers/thieves) no longer recenter+pause the game, you have to fix the announcements file yourself
- >There's no announcements screen
- >There's no hotkey to bring up the combat/hunting/sparring reports, you need the notification on screen
- Those c/h/s sparring reports DISPLAY LESS MESSAGES despite the better resolution because they decided the message logs needed spacing
- >Everything is aids to scroll through as instead of using page down/up+arrows you have to use the slowest mouse wheel scroll or inaccurately click the scroll bar
- >Can't edit military uniforms, everytime you do you save a new one
- >No 'v'iew cursor which would snap to a nearby unit on the same z-level, this means you can't use it to find your units stuck on trees or enemies where they shouldn't be
- >No inspect cursor for buildings (goes back to macros being shit), you have to hover your mouse over everything then click on them to find out the quality of say, a bed, then a cabinet
- >stone floors all have the same, generic light blue cavern colour instead of having a shade based on the rock layer
- >no longer able to manually place individual stairs, it's all now left up to the "smart" stair placement which requires placing two segments on different heights to even work (and it's STILL bugged)
- >Can no longer power level your manager by using keyboard inputs to [open the manager screen, queue a single item] and have that repeat 300 times
- >Can't tell outpost liaisons exactly how much do you want an item (ie. need for bear leather at 1 so it gets a 120% price increase, steel at 5 so it gets 200% and they bring shit accordingly), everything you ask for is now at 5
- >Outpost liaisons will tell you to make one or two items, at 200% instead of giving you a list with 8 at 120-200%
- >Can no longer use macros to build entire bedrooms
- >When placing buildings, you can't just press a hotkey to turn the category based item filter into one that just shows everything available (with it's quality in full display) based on distance, you now have say, >APPLE WOOD BED(8) then you click the > to see the quality of each, individual thing.
- >Can't build mass catacombs (for say, 30 people), only individual tombs
