二郎墩

二郎担山赶太阳 相传古时候，有个叫二郎的小伙子。二郎不但勤劳勇敢，而且为人忠厚诚实。他的力气特别大 大得能搬起几座大山；他有一双飞虎鞋，穿上它能翻山跨海，日行千里。老百姓们都信服他，喜欢 他，就推选他当了大伙的首领。 有一年，天上出现了12个太阳。炽热的阳光把大地烤得石裂缝，地冒烟，人们辛苦种的庄稼，在 太阳的照射下都枯黄了。二郎每天起早贪黑，和百姓们一起挑来河水浇灌秧苗。他挑着两只大水桶来 来往往，汗流浃背。这一天，天已过中午了，还不见母亲给自己送饭来。二郎不放心，就放下水桶往 家走。走到半路，看见娘躺在路旁，热得昏倒在地上。二郎望望天上火辣辣的太阳，肺都气炸了。他 想，如果再不把这12个太阳除掉，还不知有多少人要饿死和热死呢！ 第二天，二郎从附近山上砍了一棵千年古树作扁担，把太行山的2座小山装进两只大筐，穿上飞 虎鞋，挑起扁担去追赶天上的太阳。二郎走起路来一阵风，要走多快有多快，想跳多高有多高。他每 赶上一个太阳，就用一座大山把它压住。就这样，他已赶上了天上的10个太阳，把它们压在了山下。 这第11个太阳，被二郎赶上压在了现在的河北省赤城县。剩下的一个太阳就在东海边上，二郎本想还 去追赶，但这时他已累得走不动了。 现在，在赤城县城西北9公里燕山脚下，有一口温泉。温泉里的水一年四季都是热的，据说那温 泉下面有二郎用山压住的太阳，是太阳把泉水烤热的；温泉附近有两座小山，那是二郎歇脚时从鞋里 倒出来的泥土堆成的。现在，人们把温泉叫作“天下第一泉”，把这两座小山丘叫作“二郎墩”。

The scorching rays baked the earth to the point that rock cracked, smoke came from the earth, and the crops that everyone had worked hard to cultivate had dried up. Erlang from day to night helped everyone carry over river water to grow the crops. He carried over two water buckets, and went back and forth, sweating profusely. One day, after noon, he didn't see his mother deliver over lunch. Erlang was worried, so he set down the buckets and went home. In the middle of his journey, he saw his mother unconscious on the side of the road from a heat stroke. Erlang watched the scorching sun, lungs bursting with anger. He thought, if he didn't get rid of the suns, how many more people would have to die from hunger and heat! The second day, Erlang chopped down a nearby thousand year old tree to use it as a pole, and grabbed two small mountains from the Taihang mountain range and put them in two large baskets, put on his flying tiger boots, and then chased suns. Erlang's stride was like that of wind, he could go as fast as he wanted to go, and he could leap as high as he wanted to go. Every time he got to a sun, he would use a large mountain and smash it. With that, he already got rid of ten suns, with all of them crushed under mountains. As for this eleventh sun, it was smashed under what now is Chicheng County, Heibei Province With the last remaining sun at the East Sea, Erlang wanted to pursue further, but at that point he was exhausted. So now, at the at foot of Yan Mountain, nine kilometers northwest of Chicheng county, there is a hot spring. Said hot spring is warm all four seasons, and it is said that the hot spring is warmed by the sun smashed by Erlang underneath. Nearby the spring consists of two small mountains, created when Erlang poured the dirt out of his shoes. Nowadays, people refer to that hot spring as the "best hot spring in the world," and refer to those two small mountains as "Erlang Dun."
