  1. Q: Favourite character?
  2. A: I like Chiaki the most, as she is very comical and "動かしやすい". TL note: I've learned from programmaticallypea that when authors use this phrase, it means that a character's personality and other traits make it easier for the author to write them, with their choices and actions flowing naturally from that personality. Which honestly I (biscuits) cannot come up with an easy phrase for it ("easy to draw" is my approximation). Thank you very much! Good TIL.
  3.
  4. Q: Did you actually go to all the campsites featured in the show?
  5. A: Yes. I decide on which campsites to feature based on blogs, and then firstly decide on the campsite to visit for research. I always want to finish my research in 1 visit, but often as I'm writing, the surrounding locations I want to feature changes (e.g. I'll want to feature this or that location, or this route is more interesting etc.), so in the end, at the very least I go out and visit 2-3 times.
  6.
  7. Q: Were there any areas in the manga where there was a big difference from the original concept?
  8. A: Originally, Rin and Nadeshiko's personalities were reversed, but after discussing with my editor during the initial storyboarding, we settled on their current personalities.
  9.
  10. Biscuits comment: THANK YOU EDITOR-SAN.
  11.
  12. Q: Why did you pick Minobu as Yuru Camp's main base?
  13. A: Yuru Camp is an SOL manga, so I thought having a real place name feels more familiar to the audience. I use Nat Rte 52 a lot when going to Mt Fuji or Kofu, so I pass through Minobu often and love the scenery there.
  14.
  15. Q: How did you start camping?
  16. A: It was because I was touring by motorcycle, and camping was cheaper than staying at roofed accommodations.
  17.
  18. Q: Where did the name "Afro" come from?
  19. A: A long time ago, I posted a drawing of a character with an afro on an image posting board (Futaba https://www.2chan.net/).
  20.
  21. Q: Are Mono and Yuru Camp stories taking place within the same universe and timeline?
  22. A: In Mono, Nadeshiko and Rin live in different locations (as Yuru Camp), and in that world a manga like "Yuru Camp" is sold. Please imagine that world as a similar, but slightly different universe to Yuru camp.
  23.
  24. Q: Is the movie the manga timeline, but in the future? Or should we interpret it as a multiverse?
  25. A: In the current manga, kouhai characters have now appeared (TL Note: as of S3), so you can either say it's a different timeline, or you can say it's a possible future of the manga.
  26.
  27. Q: What were your reasons for Rin and Saitou not entering the Outdoors Club?
  28. A: If all the main cast were part of the club, the community becomes fixed. In this current way, there can be various combinations of characters, which I think is more interesting.
  29.
  30. Q: Apart from camping, what other manga genres do you want to draw?
  31. A: I think I've always wanted to draw horror. (Biscuits note: PLEASE NO)
  32.
  33. Q: In "mono", Yuru Camp characters have appeared; are there any plans for mono characters to appear in Yuru Camp?
  34. A: There's no issue for them appearing, so they may!
  35.
  36. Q: Why did you start drawing Yuru Camp?
  37. A: My previous 2 works were science fiction and they were similarly popular, so during a meeting with my editor, they suggested to draw an SOL manga. I was interested in camping at the time, and hence decided that as the main topic. The manga was going to be on "manga kiraratime" which has a lot of manga with the basic premise of "SOL girls + something", and thinking about it, if I use "camping" as the "+ something", it is something I am interested and knowledgeable in, so writing about it should be easy. Hence, the basic premise became "SOL girls + camping". (Biscuits note: that was surprisingly "normal").
  38.
  39. Q: What is your favourite camp food from the manga?
  40. A: The guilt-ridden tomato yakisoba (S3 E8), (food item that will appear in S4, use google TL if you want!), and Rin's soup pasta (S1....somewhere)
  41.
  42. Q: Have you ever thought of what to write for the final chapter of Yuru Camp?
  43. A: I've had some thoughts about it.
  44.
  45. Q: Why did Saitou and Rin become friends?
  46. A: I might draw this in the manga at some point - please kindly look forward to it.
  47.
  48. Q: Do you own Aoi's road bike?
  49. A: I do, but it's actually mainly used for reference material, and I haven't ridden it much.
  50.
  51. Q: Do you cook a lot usually?
  52. A: I cook the no-dashi houtou that appeared in Heya Camp occasionally. The dish I'm best at is pudding (programmaticallyPea's TL note: Purin Eru is basically Jell-o powder for purin, so they're joking here that they suck at cooking.) (Biscuits: thank you for the context!)
  53.
  54. Q: Do you like travelling in general too?
  55. A: Compared to visiting sightseeing spots, I prefer going on new roads via motorcycle
  56.
  57. Q: What was your most challenging moment in your camping experience so far?
  58. A: I was going to Shikoku on a bike touring trip with my friend, but on the day we set off, it was pouring with rain, and the ferry didn't run, and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge was closed. On the second day, someone let the air out of our tires at our campsite overnight, and we spent a long time fixing it. At the end, we called it a day, got ramen at Wakayama, and went home.
